Actually the P12 uses the original EdGun hammer and barrel clamping system (R1 and R2). That same hammer system is used in a few other early model airguns as well… The barrel floating system is the R3 development.
Here is a video of the early EdGun hammer, which happen to be the same hammer that is in the P12. Note the absence of the barrel/shroud compression system that was added at the R3 model.
Here is a photo of the P12 hammer in it’s housing. Notice the cylindrical stud on the part behind the action that is facing the camera, that can be seen in the cutaway video sticking up into the action.

Sorry. The P12 IS an R2 clone without a proper Matador stock and label. It’s not as exacting as this new one above (although there are parts of this new one that are not exact either, like the absence of the compression system for the upper barrel cover and barrel and the cover retaining plates).
‘Matador’ as it relates to AIRGUNS.
I can make a coffee cup or a baseball cap that is called a Matador. 😉
There is also the small issue of international copyright and the countries that accept or reject such notions. 😉
Why China will copy. Because ED selling expensive ..
$ 5,000
FYI. This forum is full of people from all over the world, even China. So don’t disrespect them by saying one country is better than other. Thank you very much.
???? My first statement was “for me its not as simple as all china stuff is crap”. I’ve shit on American manufacturing far more than any other. The p12 doesn’t have the name “matador” written on the side. They also don’t use the same hammer and the barrel isn’t the same floating system with the barrel nut. Personally, I may own a p12 someday, maybe not. Like I said before, if u don’t like the u.s., that’s fine. I’m sure u have your reasons. I’m not trying to bleed red white and blue on anyone. All I said was that the world isn’t going to be better off without it. If anything, Id say that I’m a fairly balanced guy.
As far as china people on this site. There may be a few, but they aren’t alowed to have Airguns in there county. They also don’t have the same Internet access you and I have. The lower part of my post was about how fucking stupid it is that we are farming out our military manufacturing. What happens when the county that makes our stuff for us decides we aren’t friends anymore?
I’m not brng unfair to anyone and if you want to support someone that is willing to straight up copy and sell counterfit items like this, then have fun. See if they have any good deals on counterfit airbags while your at it.
Strietwise get’s it. Well said :8:

BUY BUY BUY. Why press us to do the same. Respectfully
I agree. If you want a $500 nock off then you should buy it. I would not. There are few things that I can appreciate the very best of. Not cars, not alcohol, not watches. But I sure can appreciate the quality of my Matadors.

If you want quality sometimes it costs a little more. Supply and demand sometimes causes increase in price. If you think about it Ed’s price has stayed pretty stable for at least the last few years or so. This is a free market purchase as you please. You want a KIA I want Lamborghini.
Actually what I really want is a Leyla. You got one sitting around Ed? :fishinghole:
Time is money. Good materials are money. Good employees are money. In America, we reduce costs by removing material, commonizing parts across platforms, using faster casting/molding/whatever processes, using cheaper materials, redesigning to reduce the number of parts (I.e. something that used to be 7 seperate parts are now one unserviceable part that is cast at the same time), reducing machining steps, moving plants to areas of the country that don’t have unions, cutting benifits, using less skilled labor, and many more wonderful things that reduce the value to the customer or the earnings of the employees. Some of these things are just plain smart. I’ve seen cost reducing projects that cut warranty issues in half. I’ve also seen many, many cost savings projects that saved less than $1 per unit that ended up costed $650 or more per unit in warranty issues. Plus it hurts your image in the market place. Th issues GM is having right now (and all the shiteveryone has forgotten about ford in the early s 2000s) is a good example of the real issues going n in the the manufacturing sector. More engineering decisions are being made by business managers, not engineers.
The china take the same principles to the extream. They use cheaper materials, they don’t pay there people much, they change the designs to make them easier to cast/machine. They do away with things. They are also a communist nation. There goverment is manipulating the worth of there currentcy and goboling up as much of the worlds resorces as they can and helping the manufacturing industry stay ahead of the game. They don’t give a crap about patents. They’ve hacked the patent office more times that the KGB ever dreamed of. Say what you want about the old U.S.S.R. When they stole our technology, at least they were doing it to survive the Cold War and kept it secret. The china just ships it right back over with a price tag on it. There is a company called Cherry(I think) that makes an exact copy of a 2000 modle year Cadillac sts for something like $12000. Now I’m sure the NVH(noise, vibration, and harshness) are not at the same level of the original but still, that pretty fucked up.
Her realy scary part, for any American that gives a shit about there country, should be that the u.s. military is having some of its top secret technology mad din china. But its ok, because I’m sure they have made everyone double pinky swear not to share any of the information with the government. But still, what happens when china bombs peak harbor? We don’t have the manufaturing base to make the same push we did WWII. In fact, we have been teaching the enemy how to make all the nice bombs they are now using to kill us. Nt only that, but they know all about our equipment because they built it. One day, they flip a switch and 1/2 of our military shit stops working. Or maybe they are teaching it to turn against us, like in that movie. Just kidding, the last parts are a bit far. But its the fate of the world if we don’t watch out. Don’t like the u.s.? That’s ok, but what’s the world going to be like without us when china takes over? Probably not to great
Whoa! That was deep. All I am saying is that I will pay extra for quality.
I’m confused. Are you guys worry about the cloning or the made in China? I seem to recall a lot of people being happy with the P-12. Aren’t they made in China? Oh yes they are! And it got good reviews. So that theory goes out the window. I don’t care where the fuck things are made. If it’s a good deal I’m buying it. I won’t be the first or the last to buy this $500 matador clone.

Tony just got some Matadors stolen. Are you guys going to buy it at $500? If you did, you would be in big trouble.
Those copies are the same as those stolen rifles.
It is all about quality, ingenuity, and standing behind your product like ED does. If you read this post or anything of Ed’s post, you can see the passion Ed has products. I am thankful for the warning about the copies. :2cents:
I never expected someone ask this question! !!!!!!!!!!
Are you serious? ???? You don’t know why??????? 😳 😳
Oops. I forgot Ed need the money to build a new house. All I can say is now that the $1500 Cricket, $800 P12, $500 Matador clone is out, Ed CANNOT sell his matador at $2800. Not to the masses anyway.

Even me here in Brazil where is impossible to get a Edgun would buy this clone.
First, it’s not an Edgun. I’ll never forget it, it will NEVER compare.
Second (also first), in respect to Ed who build incredible airguns.
The P12 yes it’s inspired on the Matador 2.5(right?) but it’s not a total clone of it, doesn’t use the name MATADOR, or the rotweiller dog on it.
