Q:

EDgun Matador R3, caliber .30, single shot

Here is some information about new EDgun Matador, caliber .30.

1. Length — it became longer for about 50 mm. due to a new moderator (the same thing will be with the long one)
2. Weight — it became a little heavier due to the diameter of the barrel 14 mm instead of 12 as it was before, but not critically.
3. Moderator — new design, eccentric, diameter 38 mm, no thread on the case, just two O-rings.
4. Sound — VERY, VERY comfortable sound, to my opinion sounds quitter then .22, I can hear only the hammer.
5. Pellet — JSB .30 pellet, weight 2.90 grams (44 grain).
6. Speed of the pellet — with the standard regulator (set at 160 bar) — 270 m/sec (886 f/sec).
7. The energy for standard is 105 Joles (77.4 Ft-Lbf) .
8. Accuracy — about 20 mm (0.75 inch) at 50 meters (55 yards). Below you can see the shots to the bear can at 75 and 100 meters.
9. Barrel — made by Lothar Walther, especially for JSB .30, weight 2.9 grams (44 grain) according to my specification, choked, but very lightly.
10. Shot count for standard — 25 shots from 220 to 140 bar.
11. Volume of the reservoir — 270 cm3 (the after regulator space is bigger then at .22 and .25).
12. Length of the barrel for standard — 477 mm.

On October of 10th I went for hunting in the morning. EDgun Matador R3, standard, caliber .30, 44 grain JSB pellet, speed of the pellet 270 m/sec, one shot, distance about 50 meters. This bird:

Very tasty, by the way.

Here is the place where the pellet got in:

Here is the place where pellet went out:

No chances to survive for the bird such a size (about 6 kg.) A lot of blood on the ground. I am impressed…

At the same day I had 15 free minutes, bad mood and was in need to relax. Went for the nearest wood, took EDgun Matador R3, standard, .30 caliber. It was zeroed at 50 meters, the one I use this morning for hunting. I used Ballistic Calculator “Strelok”, made by Russian guy. I put a beer can at 75 meters and even didn’t tried to use paper to “zero” POI at this distance, just took out my IPhone, opened Strelok, changed to EDgun Matador .30, found that at 77 meters it will be second mildot from the cross and made 10 shots. Here is the result:

Then I made a picture of the can, put it vertical, moved back at 100 meters and shot another 5 shots. Here is the result:

There was a light wind from the right to left, about 2-3 m/sec, I didn’t made any calculations to the wind. Strelok told me that 100 meters will be half a mil down from the fourth mil dot at my scope. I put a fourth mildot to the top of the can and got all 5 shots down to the can.

I didn’t use any rests, tables or anything like that. I was sitting in my car, shot from the driver’s window. To my opinion not bad for such a position. The ballistic of the 44 grain JSB .30 pellets is equal to their other pellets so I don’t need to get used to new corrections by the mildot reticle.

I think I would change my Matador for hunting from .25 to .30 πŸ™‚

On October of 11th, just at 7:30 I got out home, took a car and went to woods. In 8:15 or something like that I saw a black grouse on the right side of the road. He saw me also, I stopped the car and watched him, taking R3 .30 ready to shoot, but as it was on the other side of the car I couldn’t shoot. The bird slowly moved to the bushes and directed to the thicket. I opened the door of the car, got out and moved back along the road taking the car between me and the bird. When I was about 50 meters out of the car, I took the right side of the road and moved to the place where I expected to find the bird, slowly. I reached the car, which was on the left on me and in few steps saw the silhouette in bushes, took the gun ready, but couldn’t see it in the scope through the branches. I was waiting about a minute or so, then the bird moved, I saw it in the scope through a lot of branched on bushes and shot. It moved quickly then fluttered for few second and that’s it. I loaded another pellet to the gun and moved closer to it. I found him dead.

I like this caliber as I doubt I could reach him with .22 through bushes. The pellet got in the very back side of him, penetrated through all his body and stuck somewhere near the neck. I was home at 9:30 after gutting it in the garage.

Today, on October 13th I decided to calculate how many shots will I have in standard Matador R3 in .30.

Here is the result.

Not bad, I think, 25 shots with average speed of 2.9 gram (44 grain) pellet at 270 m/sec (886 f/sec), from 220 bar to 140 bar. The average air consumption is 7.3 cm3 per one Jole of energy.

.30 cal it’s sooooo Yesterday,
.357 is where it’s at πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ the smack from that JSB 78.8gr pellet is just awesome πŸ™‚

I’ll pass on the .30 I just want my multishot kit for my .22
.30 sounds like a lot of money on pellets.

Update: emails sent to the first 20 people on the list, based on the first responses 10 Long ones are already sold and I have a few Standards in .30 left.

Oldgoat getting a .30 from Ed= Woo-Hoo!!! πŸ˜€ :8:

KnifeMaker

Guys, I understand your point but try to understand mine. When I announced about .30 I got a lot of requests from different countries from those who wanted to try it. As I have limited number of guns available I took the easiest way — pay first, get first. I need to plan logistic of delivery. No offense, nothing like that. If USA take 10 of 20 — very nice I know that I need only ten to be delivered, if 20 — sorry guys from other countries, everything goes to USA.

It’s totally up to the person who purchases the rifle to add the extra to insure it. I think it’s an extra $90-$100, but the problem you will encounter is UPS being bitches about paying.

But…

With the new packaging (last three shipments) I seriously doubt any more stocks will arrive cracked. UPS would have to run over the package to break it now.

There is NO OTHER manufacturer who packs their rifles better, best packaging ever, HANDS DOWN.

On the topic, I see what Ed is doing with this. He can sell ALL of the 30’s elsewhere (probably prepaid as well) and doesn’t want anyone backing out once he commits to the number shipped to the States. This tells me that there have been a few people who have backed out of their requests, otherwise this would not be an issue.

OG, vaporware?!? Is that why Ernest has one and nobody in the USA has ever handled or shot an EdGun 30cal? Granted the Cricket isn’t ready for release in production, but the EdGun is in the same boat, right? I believe there are more than 5 30 cal Crickets out there. I’ve only seen one EdGun in 30… Let’s not blow things too far out of proportion just yet. πŸ˜‰

quote oldgoat:

I somehow can’t imagine Ed releasing the 30 cal and it subisquently coming up with any problems.

The 30 cal Crickets are currently vapor ware, the FX is heavy, doesn’t have a good shot count and is fugly!

So whats gonna happen when you get you Edgun 30 cal in and the stock is cracked… like 2 people ive read about? Mine as well not even post about it cause we already know how that story goes :3: it can happen to anyone.

all i know is i got a F-up stock on my bc and AOA is taking care of it.

now shot count what are you comparing it to??

I got the email also but am not even interested in 30 cal. My 50fpe 25 long is plenty for what I’m doing and pellet cost is better.
I’m waiting for 9mm/357 cal for my next step up from 25 cal to hunt with along side my bow.
You guys have fun and I’ll enjoy watching the results but I’m waiting for the 9mm and hopefully a whole new redisign including valve and larger airtube to to accompany it.

I have one of those red tactical lights on its way. The night vision scope I just received doesn’t work and is going back to Opticsplanet tomorrow. I love night hunting with the sensors going in the back yard and notifying me of a raid. 😯 My current Primos red light and my green laser flashlight spook the coons a bit so I thought I would give an Armasight Orion 5X a try. :4:

I dont know about you guys, but I am going to do some low light pesting tonight :4:

I somehow can’t imagine Ed releasing the 30 cal and it subisquently coming up with any problems.

I guess that it could happen and if it does, I am sure that Ed and Tony will quickly take care of the issues; if any.

I wouldn’t give a rats ass for a mag version R3 30 cal, I want a single shot.

The 30 cal Crickets are currently vapor ware, the FX is heavy, doesn’t have a good shot count and is fugly! I have 2 FX guns right now and there is no way that either of them compare to the quality of any of my Matadors! NO WAY!

Ed says that the 30 cal is as accurate as his other Matadors. If that turns out to be so; the R3 30 cal will be the air gun that the other makers will have to aspire to equal or surpass.

Time will shake out as to what air gun is on the top of the hill. I’m betting on the Edgun.

Sent from my IPhone, I love it, my daughters both used to give me hell for staying with it until they finally got tired of all of the issues involved with their phones.

I know that we can’t all prefer the same things; if we did, our wife would quickly become very sore and all of us would get tired of waiting in line!

My feeling exactly. Not to mention there will be a flood of other good magazine-fed 30 cals coming with some even ahead of the Matadors. What if these Matador 30s have a problem? It may be a very long time for a replacement or repair. This may have been the reality before Crickets and Bobcats came onto the scene but the market has changed drastically in the last 9 months. Sure reminds me of iPhones.

quote Machine Gun:

Yeah, I got the email too but I have a slightly different take on this than probably most as I look at it from a business standpoint. I’m passing on the prepayment deal. Quite frankly, Tony is a nice guy and I don’t know Ed but the odds are that there could be delays based on past performance. Of course, I could be mistaken and these things could be delivered on time; in early November, “as per the manufacturer”.

If someone wants prepayment for a new model, then there should be incentive like 10% off or something. Why do they require full prepayment? Why not ask for 50% prepayment and the balance on delivery. 50% is a sufficient stake in a product to insure full payment upon delivery and if not, then there is sufficient deposit to cover any liquidated damages should there be any. Of course there won’t be any because these are the coveted Edguns in 30 cal!

Full prepayment from 20 of so buyers is advance profit or more money to fund additional manufacture. If you want my money for this venture or adventure, then I need some incentive. Others may jump on, but I’ll sit back and watch.

To quote, “I’d like to let you know that we’ll have .30 R3 single shot Standard and Long models in early November (as per the manufacturer)”. That’s the part that worries me “as per the manufacturer”.

If those who prepay get them on time and they are all up to snuff then Tony will be swamped with order requests where one would think that they would be happy to manufacture another batch. Like I said, I’ll sit back and watch the show.

I own 3 Edguns and love them. I’d like a 30 cal but not enough to prepay 2k. And, where and when will the .22 and/or .25 cal magazine models be ready? When will they offer the magazine upgrade for existing models? I think priorities are a little screwed up but hey, that’s my opinion right or wrong.

And that’s my three cents.

I don’t think Ed or Tony try to take advance of their customers (like us)

I think Ed try to make sure where he will send his gun to which country, because it’s 10 std & 10 long version

Beside it international shipping cost more money

Ta

PS. 100% agree with OG’s post

I agree almsot completely with oldgoat, with the exception that it will be a Wolverine going up for sale πŸ™‚

I had a rough night, slept in, just got up and found an email from Tony. To quote Knifemaker: WHO HOO!

I told Tony that I want a R3 30 cal long and that I will have the USPS money orders for $2035 in the mail bright and early Monday morning. The $2035 covers the gun, shipping and UPS shipping insurance.

IIRC, my R3 25 long cost me $2095 plus shipping so, I am getting a $100 discount on the R3 30 cal.

I don’t have any problems sending the total amount to Tony now except; the wait until early-mid November is now REALLY going to suck!

Tony has always been a standup guy with me and I have absolutely no qualms sending him the money now except for the above mentioned wait!

Anybody in the market for a slightly used FX Boss?
