Edgun "woodstock" gets a makeover (Patman, look)
Even though Ed has agreed to send me a normal gray stock, I still could not look at the wood stock any longer. A 3M scotch pad, a can of primer, a can of Dupli-color, and some elbow grease yielded this:

Hello friends, I was reminded of that when I used to assemble RC boats, made of Balsa wood, were preparing the surface first with a wood base, is a painting that is given as background for the synthetic color paintings that are applied as a finish.
Maybe the rough wood of the stock, is that the products they are using do not adhere properly.
If not the case, ignore my comment.

I believe I used the “aged iron” paint. And it has held up perfectly. No wear-through areas, and it’s dry as a bone. The textured grit lets me really keep a grip on it.

But, the stock has now cracked! Good news is that Ed and Tony are coming to the rescue very soon.

Thanks Mam I just remember seeing it a while back ,and yes I am going to guess we won’t be able to get what he uses. Ted’s gun turned out nice but I don’t know how close the color is to the oringinal paint! I guess if Ed can it would be nice just to have a bottle of touch up paint, with the ruffer paint surface should be easier to touch up than a smooth surface!

We use WS Plast 4200. Hope you can buy it in States, that is German made paint.

The paint that Ed was mentioned is not availabe in the state. We were talking about it and we also asked Ed to start put them in small bottle and ship it to the state, but Ed never say anything 😥

Not sure if you guys have tried this but allot of guys that make stocks use a filler for imperfections lines,cracks,holes,chips, there are several things you can use Bondo for car body work Epoxy any filler I would stay away from wood fillers they sell I have never found any of them to work to good Bondo is probably the best or any brand of body filler for that matter! then you can sand it down then paint it. Also Ted is there a color on that Rust- Oleum paint looks like a good match I have a couple small places I would like to just touch up for now 😉 Some time back I seen Ed posted what paint he uses to paint the Edgun anyone remember seeing that?
It all worked out well this time. I finished the last coat before noon and I am
shooting the rifle now with no tackiness.. Seems completely dry this time..
I’ve found that the success of these “specialty paints” can be highly dependent on application technique. The instructions on the can of Rustoleum textured paint said to spray 16 inches away, in sweeping motion. But, after the first coat, it was clear that this was not going to work out. The distance was too great, and the paint “arrived” too dry – it was powdery and did not “fix” to the stock. I could wipe it off if I used enough pressure.
So, on the 2nd coat, I sprayed closer to the stock – about 8 to 10 inches away. The paint arrived “wet”, and even “pooled” a little (but did not run). This made the paint take much longer to dry, and ultimately, it took 2 days to dry completely. But, when it did dry, it was tough, and could not be wiped off.
Well this time the Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating worked great… It does not
cover flaws like I wanted it to but it is rough and bone dry.
Well with some elbow grease, gasoline, and brake cleaner, I finally got all of
that crap off…. I am going to give it another try putting on lighter coats… I
might have done the same thing putting it on too thick
Well, the textured paint I used dried completely. I could handle it after an hour, but it took a good two days to be completely tack-free. That may have been from the high humidity or the fact that I put it on thick. But, it’s dry as a bone now, and feels completely different than the Duplicolor stuff – more like ceiling paint.

Ted thought I would add this to your painting of the Edgun, I looked today for paint just to touch up a couple places under my forend stock, the hardware I buy most of my bolts and such from could order it Rust Oleum like you used, so I thought I have time today went
to another place and saw a can of Krylon called fusion for plastic also good for wood metal and plastic, made mainly for a smoother surface and the abiltiy to stick better! It is a Testured Paint and I didn’t think they listed the color until I looked on the back where the bar code is I have two pictures attached, the color is 2520 Black/ Negro don’t let the black color fool you it is a perfect match for color on the Edgun even has what Jeff calls shinny flakes 😯 just like it comes from Ed! I was quite impressed with the match in color a computer match couldn’t of done any better 😆 Anyway thought I would pass this along texture is the same as a stock Edgun also. It dries fast how it will hold up I don’t know right now but will keep everyone posted, just thought I would post this becasue it is a perfect match for color and Texture!
I just added a picture of the forend so you can see how it looks I only painted the under side of the forend not by the trigger guard so you can see how well it matches
