Edgun "woodstock" gets a makeover (Patman, look)
Even though Ed has agreed to send me a normal gray stock, I still could not look at the wood stock any longer. A 3M scotch pad, a can of primer, a can of Dupli-color, and some elbow grease yielded this:

This Rustoleum stuff is definitely “sandier” than the the Duplicolor (which was more rubbery). We’ll see how this stuff holds up. If/when it fails, I’ll reach for a can of that stuff Mam recommended. Maybe, by then, I’ll have that proper stock, and I’ll stop bothering your all with my failures. 🙂

Well, here’s #2. This stuff looks very similar in color to the photos I’ve seen of the original stock. Having never held an original stock, I can’t say for sure….

Thanks, Mam! If this stuff doesn’t work out, I’ll dig up some of the Rustoleum Bedliner. Already though, this stuff I have on feels dry to the touch – and rough. It looks damn close to the exact original color on the standard stocks. I’ll post a photo tomorrow in natural lighting.

Did you see the post where the guy took his Matador stock to a truck bed spray liner shop in Pamona, CA and had them do the “Rhino Tuff” number on it?
It turned out really well and that stuff is literally bulletproof!
The government is now spraying that stuff on the inside of walls to stop blas effects of truck bombs and IEDs on government installations. There was a special on this on the Discovery Channel and it was amazing how that 1/4″ bedliner stretched and absorbed a sizable blast.
Might check your local bed liner shops and price a job.

The first time I tried “Rustoleum truck Bed Coating”…It worked great… The second time I tried it, it sucked. Would not dry…..
Ted, I have a short on order as well so not sure how many it takes for Ed to ship our way but I know of three, you, me and the Hooter man.

Did that mussolini – still no dice. Seems that stuff just wasn’t made for wood. Perhaps it would hold up with a layer of poly or varnish over it. But, to me, that would ruin the feel of the stock. I want coarse – not tacky. And speaking of tacky, the Dupli kept just of bit of that stickiness after it dried. All in all, I’d say look elsewhere to recoat your stocks.
Duplicolor needs a primer otherwise it will rub off..

I ordered a “short” Matador two weeks ago and have hopes Tony has placed that order with Ed. It’s now up to the rest of the guys to step up to the plate and “take one for the team”, as I have done.

That Duplicolor did not hold up. It looked sharp, but it rubbed off the gun in the grip area. I removed the video from the EdgunUSA channel, so as not to lead others to a dead end.
Got some paint thinner, gloves, and the next contestant.
Of course, I could stop all this as soon as Mr. Ed sends the next shipment. So, buy some Edguns will you guys?!? I want that darn stock.

Thanks Ted for helping me to correct my “asimmetry” misspelling. I’d rather wait for the original stock instead of wasting time and money on this one.
The wall thickness on the right side is so thin that I’m afraid of breaking it.
I´m still looking for time to design my own custom stock.
Patman, with the exception of the cracks, my stock has all the same imperfections. If you stop the youtube video at 7.40, you will see the same amount of asymmetry. It isn’t pretty.
I have the interior shimmed in many places in order to make the gun rest evenly.
I too, look forward to receiving my standard stock. But, until then, I had to do something to improve what I have… 🙂
I don´t know yours Ted, but there is no way my stock would look like the original, no matter how much bedliner or special paint I use.

thanks for the advice. I may have to give this a go as anything is better than the wood stock I have. It really doesn’t do the gun justice. I just can’t put it down long enough to work on it as I just got mine. Seems like I’ve only had it a few weeks but it’s probably more like a month now. Countless pigeons, english sparrows etc… have fallen victim. Too much fun.

HOLD EVERYTHING I advised using Rustoleum Truck
bedliner. Well, I just coated the Matador .25 and the stuff won’t dry…. I am
getting the same tacky feeling that Ted described with some of his other
coatings…. The last can I used worked great but seems this stuff is hit and
miss…..
