Q:

Edgun Review update

Hey fellers, just a little more info specific to the currently available magazines (.25 in my case). I received them in aluminum not plastic, today, and 3 will fit under the rail but not 4. See the attached photo as demonstrated with my gun (Dec. production). I’m pleased to report that receipt took less than 4 days post order from Tony R. Remaining Availability???

Now with 750 pellets down the pipe, I will note that the regulator has settled in nicely. Seems to be consistent through several full strings and typically an ES of 25 or under for 60 to 80 shots contingent of the velocity selected (long version). This is discounting an occasional velocity spike which can be attributed to pellet or continued break in. Couldn’t be more pleased with efficiency and shot count as this was the primary reason I purchased the long, despite the extra expenditure. That, and I just like having a long tube. 😉

Replacement Breeches..What replacement Breeches…Ed?

Have I ever said something about replacement breeches?! It was Pippo, so I think it’s better ask him what he took that information from? The only thing I said I can replace two alluminium magazines for those who has bought EDgun Matador R3M, first version with the plastic magazines, which make the cocking smoothing, that’s it.

Ridiculing him is a sure way to loose that line of communications, and all the benefits that come with it.

Hoot:

It is funny but I had the same situatin at Russian forums and I found quite an interesting thing, people like Pippo are quite active in bashing somebody if they sure he read what they write. If they are sure the manufacture doesn’t care about what is said about his guns at forum, they loose interest to atack him 🙂

My Dearest Uncle Hoot :hoot: ,

thank you very much for your positive and costructive post, very much appreciated 😀

But actually the facts are the other way around and I simply don’t accept it.

It is ED that wants to ridiculise the customer by saying there isn’t or there hasn’t been any problem.

His position is becoming so ridiculous that the only way to comment is becoming hilarious.

Why did somebody here on TAG develop a new cam lever that has been used to replace the original one on the R3M that was not working properly?

Actually even Wingman, one of the foremost and recognised bullpup experts on here didn’t understand the new “features” immediately and was explaining the problems (of roughness and failing indexing) due to sub-par grease in the action/breech.

ED himself admitted that there were some problems (voluntarily or involuntarily) and he was working on a improved version? (The post gen-1 version).

Why is people referring to the R3M as a paper weight? (Actually where did you get that cheap paper weight? Normally they were selling for around 2500 USD).

As you can notice, it’s ED that wants to ridiculise the customer speaking about “speculations” and denying miserably all facts.

To make a long story short, just use the search function on TAG and search “R3M and issues” and you will get a detailed list of all the “features”.

And just to make everything clear, I ALWAYS AND ONLY report about personal experiences and real facts and this already since a long time now and I never report about hear-say.

This said actually, for me we can stop the discussion about those “magic features” here, I don’t have any interest to continue the discussion and no regrets to forget about the R3M gen-x paperweight but I will never accept the fact that ED wants to RIDICULISE THE CUSTOMERS).

Be well and stay in good shape, only God knows if in order to handle all the “features” of your arriving Lelya you will first need to follow a special training 😀

All the very best.

Jeez hoot that was a really lucid moment, well said… :dito:

Pippo….Do you OWN, have you ever OWNED, an Edgun???

You post a lot about the Edgun, but I never see anything related to you actually shooting, owning, or having personal problems with one! I looked in all your past posts, only in one do you imply you own a Gen 2, R3M, but not one word further about it, nor any problems, malfunctions, or defects???

The last thing we need is an “anecdotal expert“, or a person who relies on second or third hand information, from unnamed sources, to pronounce a personal “expert” view on the subject matter. That type of input does not contribute to the knowledge base present on this forum, nor does it expand our understanding of a real problem. Ridiculing and bashing a dealer, especially if you don’t own his merchandise, is NOT productive.

It has been said Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and some of them are full of shit...” Our reader’s problem is to separate facts from “hear-say”. Ownership of the gun being discussed implies personal experience and knowledge. This type of first hand knowledge cannot be obtained by reading other members posts. If YOU have experience such a problem with an Edgun YOU own…then post the relevant facts!

The forum relies on actual experience, and proven facts, so the technicians and experts among the members can arrive at resolutions and fixes, which benefits all the forum members. Simply posting an “opinion”, while sometimes interesting, is not wrong…unless it is done repeatedly, because it does nothing to help us resolve problems, defects, or user error. (see Ed’s video about the conical shaped pellet inlet in his magazines) There are sometimes good reasons why the gun does what it does. If you don’t know that reason, you tend to see the gun as “…defective”, and needless, incorrect, bad press results.

No offense intended…just my observation. More facts, less opinions, equals more progress!

And…can we please stop “Dealer/Manufacturer Bashing”, because if that individual is willing to take time on this forum to explain his position, reasons for problems, ideas, and solutions, that is valuable information to us. Ridiculing him is a sure way to loose that line of communications, and all the benefits that come with it.

Hoot:

ED watched video, it looks like the gun you used is working grate . I have always had long guns an no bigger than .22 . I like the .25 standard , I am not trying to say anything bad about the gun , I need to learn how to hold it, because it has a little more jump then the other gun i was shooting . As far as the magazine I am pulling bolt back like you fast and feeding it JSB kings . I have only shot 300 pellets in it. It might need to loosen up. I have watched every video out there on the edguns , And now i have one !!!! Took me a while but i have it now. Thank you for being concerned. I don’t see any other company, especially The owner, show concern an talk to there customer Like you do . Ps if it’s a problem we will get it worked out ,lets break it in first , and get used to it.
Thanks Bobby Farr

None taken, but better to fix it then to have 1600euro paper weight, don’t you think?

Brgds
Jack

Oops! Another “Visionary” (sorry for the term, nothing meant personally and no offence).

May I ask you if you speak from a “theoretical knowledge” point of view or do you have R3M Edgun? 😀

Please be aware that the “grinding” is not a malfunctioning but a “feature” to improve accuracy as already explained by Ed several times apparently.

Concerning the “occasional miss-fed”, must be another feature probably called “intelligent safety” and it probably kicks in automatically whenever needed.

Replacement Breeches..What replacement Breeches…Ed?
You know that I have always bitched to you and Alex about my R3M Breech and never once did you offer to replace the assy?
you sent me the trigger/hammer assy and it remained the same grinding and occasional miss-feed.

So I ended up fixing it myself; although I would prefer a “REPLACEMENT” functional until from the getty-up of the price payed for a Edgun! the plastic mags you sent me also helped on the cycling.

Hi ED,

so apparently it’s since a few years now that we speak about a problem and you aren’t even aware of it? 😀

Probably then you are right, there wasn’t any issue and you fooled all those customers you sent a replacement breech, it was just for fun 😀 .

You funny boy! Making fun of us!

I wish I could explain it better then I did, but I fail how to do, unfortunately.

That is me, shooting R3M, with the first version of the breach which was a little hard to use:

As you can see I have no problems with the working with the breach. I tried it different way but had no problems. I believe some of my clients can have it, but how can I explain how to use it if I don’t understand how it is possible to have some issues with it? Enlighten me, I will really appretiate it!

So guys, is the magazine indexing of the R3M problematic? I’ll ask in another post to get wider responses.

Pipo the great Jack O’ Connors once wrote “only accurate rifles are interesting”. Ed has always said to use JSB pellets, his barrels are custom made for those pellets. Not really a big deal, it’s not like JSB pellets are hard to find. In the powder burner world a long range rifleman does not switch loads once he finds zero on his hand load/gun combo. Switching loads is a total PITA and it is really unnecessary. Edguns are really a marvel but like my 6 MM XC tube gun it takes understanding of the equipment to get it to run at it’s peak performance. That’s not a bad thing, it’s why this forum exists. I sense your anger and disappointment, I have been there many times with guns in my life. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, there is a solution to the problem and the Edgun is accurate enough to take the time to solve it. The greatest trait a rifleman can possess is patience.

Yes the great Jack O’Conners was shooting .270 Win 130 grains in most occasions but at the end apparently he admitted that the .30-06 was a more versatile round.

Anyway respect for MR O’Connors and his experiences and his statements :thumb:

Ah I see…. if the 3K pellets break-in cure did not work this still means the problem is the shooter and not the gun.

At this point in order to have some fun with the tool you need to buy exclusively JSB pellets and you need also some special training, I repeat for obvious reasons, this because the problem is the shooter and not the gun.

Probably the R3M matador is not meant for “normal” people, you might need to have some special skills that “average” people doesn’t have, or maybe you need to get first some kind of “Matador R3M shooter certification”.

But I have to admit this “saga” is entertaining with a lot of suspense…

After the “3K Break-in period” of Season 1 and the “Only JSB pellets and Shooting/Handling certification” of Season 2, what is coming next?

I remember the times when the HW100 was broken in at pellet number 2, apparently sadly those times are gone now but honestly not much suspense in those times…

:2cents:

Good speculation 🙂 If there is a problem which cannot be solved by owner and he is sure the problem is not in him, pellets, scope, weather etc, he can just send gun back to Tony to repair or test it. If the other gun producers has some different way of work? I would really appretiate if you give me fact when a shooter was unhappny with the accuracy of the gun and just based on that statement the seller did any steps.

Hi ED,

Apples and Oranges, that’s the problem 😀

I speak about Apples and you reply Oranges …

When did I mention the accuracy of the matador? OK I have to admit it, I’ve said several times on here that the matador is very accurate 😀

Speculation? Come on this is being pathetic.

I was speaking about the disgrace of the multishot mechanism of the R3M, as simple as that.

Did I say the matador is the only multishot gun having issues? No apparently the HB is playing in the same league.

I come to the Edgun with experience in tweaking PCPs, at least those PCPs an owner could work on with a bit of mechanical ability. I look forward to my Edgun fitting that category, though I don’t intend to tweak it much. I’ve read and watched videos that inform me the gun’s barrel was specifically designed to shoot the JSB 18 grain pellet (best). I’ve had several PCPs where that was the case; shooting the JSB pellet best. It’s a good pellet. So, when you know what’s called for in the manufacturer’s design it will be easier to enjoy the gun’s potential. For perspective, I mention the Kalibrgun Hummingbird. It’s a great design, but the continual magazine-indexing issues was a deal-breaker. The cure is to disable the anti-double-load feature. AND! No word from the manufacturer. The dealers are fixing these guns.Good on them for going it alone to help their customers.

Ed, gives you product information videos so you know how to properly use the gun, tear it down, work on it, etc. For instance, i already know I can’t use a limp wrist to cock the gun. Ed demonstrated and spoke of that in a video. How cool is that? Want to adjust the trigger? There’s instruction on that too. I think the Edgun is a small operation compared to some of the operations out there. I hope that translates into a good relationship between the manufacturer and the buyer. I’ve been advised to expect a well-built and capable product. It still blows my mind to think of the power and accuracy an R3M Standard can extract from a pellet I had previously thought (as have others) that it’s best speed/accuracy regime was at less than 900 fps. But Keyser Soze’s results blew that right out of the water: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=31172 So this gun design shows a lot of deep thought and engineering. I don’t know how Ed came to think he could get this performance (long range accuracy and power), but the result is inspirational. Damn! I’m talking like a fanboy and I don’t even own the gun yet. So I think I’m impressed at it’s potential, having come from the Hummingbird. Maybe I want my R3M to meet my expectations. But those expectations come from investigating the product, both from how Ed presents his product information, and from people who own the gun and post their experiences. What else would I reasonably conclude?
