evanix sniper owners??
My buddy really likes the evanix sniper and I dont want him to buy a bad gun. There is very mixed reviews about this gun. Is it worth the money or should he get a different gun? He likes the fx t12 400 also.

What matters most is that we both tried to offer helpful advice to the OP and our intentions were all good. In the end, it was all for naught as the OP’s friend went off and bought a powder burner. How funny is that? :banghead:

So just to clear things up he does not want the gun anymore because even thow he loves the way it looks, he is a hunter and knows the importance of an accurate well working rifle. He is heavily leaning towards getting a savage 17hmr making it look bad a$$ and getting a really good scope all for cheaper then any high quality air rifle. He is moving back to texas soon and says its the better choice for where he is located any ways.
My only rebuttal to that was the fact that he is soon going to be on a tight budget and ammo down the line is going to kill him. So he is still on the fence about it. But I told him honestly if he took the amount of the evanix with scope and bipod and put that towards a 17hmr with a great scope and choice of stock and bipod, he could take the extra left over and buy ammo. Then he could take the amount he was going to spend on an airtank and put that towards ammo in bulk also. But he still realizes that it wont be long before getting ammo is going to be like pulling teeth.
But I was thinking about it how does a company with SUCH BAD REVIEWS! Keep there guns selling for so high!!!!!!????? :angrymob:

If he gets one that ends up grouping shotgun pattern he’ll be discouraged. Same thing if it starts leaking air or having other problems.
Talk him into a good gun that’s going to not give any problems so he can just go out and shoot- and smile when the pellet always lands where he’s aiming.
It’s clearly evident that the OP’s friend has his heart set on the Evanix Tactical Sniper. Both you and the OP acknowledged this in earlier posts:

1. A good friend shouldn’t have to be “talked into” anything. Likewise he should be “talked out of” anything either.
2. A good friend presents the facts, expresses their opinions, and provides a recommendation. Friends don’t persuade their friends into doing anything.
3. Nobody can guarantee anything will be “trouble free”. A Cricket or Marauder can also arrive broken, leaking, or shooting like crap. That’s a fact.
What do you think would happen if the gun he is talked into ends up being a dud?? His friend will be even more disappointment as he will blame the OP for talking him out of the gun he really wanted in the first place. As I said in an earlier post, the Evanix can always be returned so he has nothing to lose.

If your friend doesn’t know about something, and he’s wanting to make a decision purely on looks or style, you should talk him out of it. If you know better about something and he’s your friend, you should be obligated to help him make the better decision.
No, you can’t guarantee anything to be trouble free- fact is, some guns have a much better chance of being trouble free. You shouldn’t think and make decisions with such broad terms.. and you can’t use them in an argument. “Might as well buy the cheapest safety equipment and save a few bucks.. because any brand of equipment could fail..”– “Might as well buy a cool looking gun with the poorer track record, any gun could have problems..”
And there are times you should talk a friend in to, or out of things. You shouldn’t talk them into doing things that are bad for them. Example- You talk them in to rehab.. you talk them out of suicide. Its silly I use this as example, but its also silly that I have to since you insist on using these extremely broad terms to sound right when making an argument.
You said its the guys first air gun so he’ll basically think its cool no matter what since he has nothing to compare it to-
Thats just bad advice. If you buy something and it has problems.. you don’t need past experience with something similar to be disappointed. You know its not working correctly, plain and simple. I called you out on what I thought was poor advice.. get over it. No need to fire back on my comment and attempt to twist it to sound wrong..

+1 on the Marauder. The Marauder would’ve been my first recommendation as well, but it sounded like your friend may have money to spend so I was thinking high-end. The Marauder is just as good a gun though, minus the fanciness.
Haggard is absolutely right. Sounds like your friend came to you for advice he can trust. If a gun, or any other product for that matter, gets bad reviews from people who have experience with it, then their advice should be taken.
Air gunning is a great sport/hobby but it could get costly. To urge someone to purchase one with known problems WILL discourage them.
In my opinion, a great trouble free gun right out of the box is a Benjamin Marauder for someone who wants to get into PCP’s! Dead quiet, accurate and powerful and you don’t really need to be a “tinkerer” to own one.

I wouldn’t piss on your friends parade. He obviously digs the modern warfare look of the Evanix Sniper. I say let him go for it. After all, it’s his first arigun right? He has nothing to compare it to so he’ll think the best thing since Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

If he can compromise on that one requirement, he can really get a fantastic rifle he’s guaranteed to love-
The Cricket carbine .25
Although it’s not tactical looking, it could pass as a WWII type sniper look.
The main thing he should be worrying about is-
1-Accuracy
2-Accuracy
3-regulated, shot count, reliability, resale value*
He has much to gain by choosing the Cricket over the Evanix. This isn’t opinion, it’s fact.
Have him go on the Yellow forum and do a search for Cricket Carbine .25 reviews. That’ll make up his mind.

Sorry for the late reply, had some issues with posting.
Well, hope it’s still of interest. I own an Evanix tactical sniper and a FX Bobcat, both in .22. Had the FX one year before the Sniper.
When receiving the Sniper, I couldn’t fill due to damaged o-rings on the fill probe. Repaired that and could top up.
Accuracy up to 15m was OK, but further not great at all, trying different types and weights of pellets. Thought that might be related to break-in. 25 meters and further, the target looked like if I had used a shotgun.
Was thinking it might be the scope, so changed the scope to the FX, and found out that nothing was wrong with it, good accuracy on the same distance, same day, same conditions.
Then, after 500 or so pellets downrange, had a slow leak, loosing around 100psi per night. After 20 more shots, it was loosing the 100psi per second.

Dismantled the lady an found more damaged o-rings, as well as the poppet valve being a misconception. In fact, the plastic insert is wearing in and after some time, the metal body of the valve is hitting the valve seat, not sealing anymore.
Replaced o-rings and made a new plastic insert for the valve, in a way that the metal won’t hit the valve seat again. I’ll post this work over the weekend in the “mods/machinist” section, might be of interest for other users.
Up to now, she holds pressure and accuracy seems to have improved at15m already, (ragged hole instead of several holes touching one another) still waiting for a day without rain, fog, wind to test 50m and do some chrony.
Now what to say about the Bobcat? This is going to be a lot shorter: reliable, no issues after 1 1/2 years and some 2500 rounds downrange, robust, always fun to shoot, accurate over 50m (didn’t go further yet), well balanced, especially when standing, well… Ok Sir Ville would add “ugly”, but one doesn’t argue about taste.
In conclusion, from my experience, I’d choose any FX over an Evanix as a beginner who wants to shoot rather than fiddle around. I’m well aware that I might have gotten a lemon, so please take it for what it is, just sharing my own personal experience with guns from both brands.

Lol some one is a little sensitive. I said he is still on the fence about what to buy I think he is going to wait a little bit, so he can do some research him self and then make his decision. He still really wants an airrifle. We will see! :biggrinn:
