Q:

Fao of ed regarding beech stocks on edguns

Hi ED Regarding a long process where lads are paying a hell of a lot if cash for your products, can u confirm that you have started using the same wood as kalibrgun ie beèch on your guns sold in Europe as there’s many many lads now over the last year receiving what can only be described as cheap wood what would only be fit to be sent for painting rubberising call it what you will . Your guns are priced as a premium gun one the most expensive bullpups out there after complaints to you about this you have promised some lads replacement stocks (which they still havnt received surprise suprise) any how after many threads going no where with your so called suppliers/enthusiasts arguing the case I thought I’d ak u to explain I await your reply to confirm this or your suppliers are just taking the piss and stating walnut stocks yet selling beech would really appreciate a honest answer on this one as after the dealers have added there mark up on your prices these really are expensive lads deserve to know weather the buying beech or walnut can u reply so YOUR. Reply can be added to the owners group on Facebook and end the edgun vs cricket arguments what’s been going round in circles for best part of a year now

Brother Hemn – Demp modded the Edgun grip into pistol grip. Those are OEM stocks.

Brother ,,,,you Edgun stocks have different shape on the pistol grips ,,, if you compare to the current Edgun stock shape ….

BTW: very nice stocks ,,,, you are lucky…

Both mine are walnut. I modded them so I definitely can guarantee the wood type. Seen 3 others besides mine and all walnut.

The photo is not that good to Judge but when I blow it up I see pours that are commonly found in Walnut. Take a photo of an unfinished section. That will be the easiest way to know. In person it’s hard to mistake walnut.

One such stock about the above claim

Eds with the dealers in Lebanon now who were stating they use European beech maybe he can ask why !!!!

all this talk of beech – sounds like rival gun makers shit-stirring. :1:

ditto

Any claim without proof is nothing but bullshit. even if they prove it to be beech wood who will prove that it was an original EDgun stock.

this is a useless thread to be honest.

I have to say that I’ve never seen a beech stock on a matador.

It’s true that the walnut was becoming more and more “beech style” looking but nice wood is becoming expensive.

Honestly the new “Russian walnut” stocks I’ve seen were actually nicer than the latest walnut stocks “before” the russian walnut era.

The walnut stocks of the first crickets were also very very nice but also there over time they became less and less beautiful and I believe they ended up to be beech. (Not 100% sure on this)

Would be nice to have higher grade walnut stocks as an option for those ones not knocking them around in the woods.

Well said Ed, really well said.

Look no one switched stocks on EDguns unless they somehow broke the stock and the owner needed to replace the OEM one. The cost of stocking would make the whole deal unprofitable. Here is the reality of wood. Walnut can be plain or fancy, it can look vastly different. English walnut and Turkish walnut has very different figure. If you expect honey and smoke on an EDgun you are living in fantasy land. I have paid 5K for wood alone to sit on a shotgun.

If you want walnut like this you are going to pay for it

The vulcan is walnut yet very plain too

That beautiful wood you are showing in your pictures is from the stump end of the tree. Only the part of the tree that is at or below ground level has those beautiful swirls and colors. In most cases the best part of the stump is used for the butt end of the gun and the muzzle end of the stock is further up the tree. As a result you only get a few spectacular looking stocks out of a entire mature walnut tree. I have made and checkered a hand full of stocks and the most difficult part is finding a good quality piece of wood. You start at the $400 – $500 range and it goes up fast from there. If folks want a world class stock for their Edgun or any other gun there are places that can make them for you. You pick out a piece of wood and send in your existing stock. They rough our a new stock using your old stock as a template. Then it is up to you to finish and checker. It is a lot of work but it makes a huge difference in the beauty of a gun.

It’s very obvious what’s going on here. The vultures are circling above Ed .He can handle them. He just tells them show me or quit your lying. The last 3 Edguns from Tony in the last 5 months that my brother’s bought where walnut. There was 1 that was really outstanding. Really nice grains with a dark stain. The other 2 where a little lighter stained.
Nice but not the as sharp as the other one. On my air arms I had a choice of a beach and a walnut. I chose a beach and that was a mistake. It’s really soft and really easy to nick .For another $120.00 I could have gotten a walnut but that’s hindsight. Beach is so soft when you mount your bypod on a few times you can see the indents in the wood.

that is beautiful graining to that wood – i had a awesome tiger stripe to my les paul guitar before i sold it for $3500! :3:

Seems to me… As an onlooker.. That the Russian walnut being currently used , bears little resemblance to the walnut people expect or are used too…

I think we have a BINGO. :dito:
