Favorite Air Rifle from Past
Can you ever remember a favorite rifle that maybe was your first air gun? My very first BB gun was a BB gun, A Daisy. The end muzzle unscrewed and you carefully filled it with BB’s as to not spill em all over.
Then as I got older my Dad let me run off with his all brass Benjamin .22 cal. I even kept a German Shepard from biting me once with that rifle.
But there was one little powerless rifle that I really remember. The Crosman AIR 17. I managed to find one on line just about like Brand new with Box and manual. Then I found another one and the guy asked if I wanted it. So I bought it and sure enough it was too rusty and grime filled for my likings.
So this is what I did. I bought a 781 and look…

This was a blast. They fit perfect. The 781 was always that AIR 17 anyway and they still make it to the same specs 25 years later. The 781 had rivot ports for the AIR 17 stocks. My 7 year old Grandson loves it. This will be his first single pump I think.
But I still search for these things. 😉

Well my favorite was a pistol.
A Webley Hurricane.
I carried it quite a few summers when fishing, and shot and killed quite a few sunning carp with it.
Its never shot hard, but it penetrated a carp skull if I did my part.
Every once in a while I would hit one, and it would tear off and beach itself.
Hilarious.
One day a sherrif deputy arrived and questioned me, then left. As long as it wasnt a firearm he let it slide due to carp being a trash fish by Montana laws.
Yeah… we all have great memories from times with these little Air guns!
From Gun Brokers I found a practically brand new with box and manual a 80’s Crosman AIR17. I bought it just to have. It clocks too at 400fps as advertised. But through all the love and memories of our air guns from days gone bye,I have two that are signs of the times and really all I need. And that is my Airforce Condor and Talon all customized and rebuilt by Anthony 266. they are in my armory with my firearms and when it is pellet gun time look out baby! “they Rock” 😎
The Crosmans are the first two pellet guns I had as a 10 year old.
I bought these two Crosmans off of Gunbroker, I had ABAirguns reseal them, the Crosman 101, I had Ron at Bryon and Associates rebarrel and furnish the newer style peep site, I refinished it, but the work I had done on it requires a little touch up, I should have waited on the refinish until everything mechanical was finished.
I had an extra 2240 grip frame, so I polished it and put it on the 150, but I still have the old one waiting in the wings.
Both are ammo sensitive, but once I got the right combo they are both tackdrivers.
I got the BSA Improved Mdl D off of Gunbroker also, I had to make a leather seal and reseal it myself, and repair scope mounting holes in the top of the receiver. I did not have a BSA as a child, but I wish I did, it is a great old gun

The ole “All Brass” Benjamin eh? After my very first which was that Daisy BB gun (single pump),My Dad let me run off with his all Brass Benjamin in the 70’s.
It shot very smooth and had a hair trigger or just a worn trigger. But very smooth and while that Benjamin would kill Rabbits my friends Crosmans in my opinion fell short compared to that .22 pump.
I,ve never seen one since, but I had one around 1968, then I got a Benji, with the round pump handle in .22.
With iron sights too eh?

My favorite was was A REPLICA OF THE REMINGTON FIELDMASTER, you pump the forearm and shoot, man, sometimes I would be shootin like the rifleman and it was a bb gun, but that gun was like an extention, I could hit anything with it.
I actually clocked that AIR17 today while I was testing my Talon SS aftr I placed it’s 11″ .17Cal barrel back in to plink with.
The Crosman AIR-17 is rated at 400 or 420FPS on the box but my AIR today clocked at

I just did 7 shots. Just for fun. This is sort of what I figured.
My Talon SS did an average of 938.4 to sometimes after some shots 887.0. It also went clean through a 3/4″ pine board. I was using an 8 Grain JSB Predator polytip.
Those AIR17’s are cute. I basically built it as a collector sort of but I also have my Grandson jumping up and down and he calls it his. So I guess it would be a good little starter for a 7 year old. He is still not quite ready yet.

Yeah.. I had a absolute blast popping out the rivots with the right size center punches and how the parts fit perfect on the 781. The Magazine part is connected to the Hand rail as one solid piece and it looks from holding it up side by side with my little Crosman 760 like it will fit perfect on it’s receiver but the Forestock and Rear stock are not even in the ball park for the 760 😥 .
So I would like to find another one just for the pieces and put the magazine on the 760 after I cut off the hand rail in my band saw and then making it look real clean epoxy some weaver rails squared true on it’s top for a scope and then get crafty and cut up a cheap Airsoft retractable tube stock and figure out a way to mount it to the 760 and do the same with the forestock from an Airsoft.
Then the 760 multi pump would be my 💡 760 to AIR76 😉
For a muzzle piece on that 760 I just bought it from a guy on Fleabay. A muzzlebreak for that 760 so it looks a heck of a lot better than that front sight Crosman uses.
Can anyone here remember back about 25 years ago when the AIR17 was made and those kids in San Diego Calif. were busted for taking Illegal’s who were running through their neighborhood right from the Mexican Border? These Jr High looking teenagers had their own fox holes dug and took the illegals at gun point with their AIR17’s.
I wonder if this incident alone had an impact for Crosman not making anymore of them ❓

Oh yeah…I remember those. I had one to once if it was the same gun. Exotic looking pistol. Wern’t they made by Beeman?
I had one in .22 cal. Kind of a tank. I think I gave it to a friend at one time.
I can’t remember who or much but I remember one of those. I think they had two models or something.
