Q:

First crony shot string…

OK so I was interested to see what my SS would do with the HI-FLO bottle, striker weight, 18 barrel, shooting .22 Kodiaks. Here’s what the crono said. 21 shots, 2500 psi down to about 1750. Wondering if this sounds about right. Seems pretty consistant over all. My first recorded string.

I know the general rule seems to be keeping Kodiaks in the 950 to 1000 fps range for accuracy, but I’m getting great groups at these speeds. No flourecent lighting here.

the speed barrier is roughly 1086fps. but the hotter the temperature is the higher the sound barrier goes up, my personal opinion is your speed is off.

Could 20 yrds be to close for a sonic crack to happen? Brand new crony.

Well… heck yaaaa? At the instant the projectile contacts the pressure change, so to say the moment it comes out of the barrel a crack should happen. Right?

the gun is functioning rather on the awesome side

Well, I suppose if the air temperature is high enough and your elevation low enough, you may not even be hitting the speed of sound yet?

I’m no good with all those fancy equations.

OK here’s the groups I’m getting at 20 yrds, I’m sure they could be covered with a dime. Good battery, tasted it before I put in in… ouch. Could 20 yrds be to close for a sonic crack to happen? Brand new crony.

what is your set up specifically

Those are some good numbers. Boy are they going to be putting the hurtin’ on the critters that you will be shooting.

spinj, thanks for your input. They seemed like good results to me as well, although I have nothing to compare these results to in a similar set up. But I’m loving this combo. Hits like a freakin hammer, and deadly accurate to boot. Right around 65 fpe through out 95% of the string. Seems to be a killer set up, loving it!

Look pretty high, but not impossible. You should be hearing a sonic crack with each shot. Might dial it back a smidge! 🙂 Good battery in the chrony?

What distance are you shooting groups at? I suspect that if it is close range, the pellet is staying supersonic the entire way. If you shot groups at like 50 yards, they would probably be a lot worse. Or you are just very lucky 😛

how good are the groups, anything, .2, .5, .7, and what range are you shooting at?

Those are some good numbers. Boy are they going to be putting the hurtin’ on the critters that you will be shooting.
