Q:

Flat shoting combo SR12 reticle and 25 acp cast bullet

I have been working with Handloads.com and Hawke Ballistic calculator for a good coyote size hunting zero.

I choose a somewhat modest 910 FPS altho I have hit as high as 945 FPS.

With a 80 yard zero I have a aiming point for 55 70 and 80 yards, and as you can see it very flat shooting at those distances.

At 185 yards, the furtherest aiming point, the bullets is still traveling with the same energy and veleocity as the 25 ACP has at the muzzle.

At 200 yards it is the equivilant of a 25 King at 1050FPS at the muzzle.

Sorry for the poor quailty photo’s I am computer illerate when it comes to posting site info.
These are in ten yard intervals out to 100 yards.

same stuff Jerry. the imperial sizing die is mink oil. if it’s not , it is same consistency , works the same too. i had a budy using mink oil and he decided to get some imperial to compare, and they work and seem the same.

RC,

JB Bore paste works just fine for my LW and lesser barreled guns. I’ve been lucky as I’ve never needed anything more abrasive than JB to get the barrels to a nice smooth finish. Some took more rubbing than they should have but that’s the way it goes.

Nowadays, I mostly shoot my Barnes guns and as you would expect, those barrels don’t need any end user polish and they don’t require seasoning and they don’t gather lube or lead in rough spots….

Marvins works for him, but if I were yu I would wait.

Yeah I know what you mean about big bores, I was shooting 410’s out of mine at 842 FPS this morning, shoots clear thru my old crossbow target.

RC,

I think I’ll follow close to your results with this bullet. I would order the RCBS mold now, but hate like hell to put over 100 bucks in a mold if you decide it not going to work. That’s over a hundred I could put in an LBT that also might not work. 🙄 Wouldn’t be the first time for me.

My wife thinks I’m crazy as hell dumping money in what she calls bb guns. Airforce guns are not all I have, I also have a few FX’s and Beemans as well. I guess I just get bored with the powder burners after awhile. But damn I like the big bores! I don’t think I’ll let the wife know I’m thinking about one of Gary Barne’s large bores just yet!

I am not too sure I want to spend money on another Lee mold.

But I think LBT will make anything. I would like to have a 55 grain three narrow band with the top band near the SWC nose.

But if this RCBS mold works out I will probably stop with it.

You sure can buy a lot of Kings for what all these dreams cost. 😉

I mean if you look at some of my Air Gun gear, you would think I am OCD or something, maybe something else all together tho, like addicted? 💡

In reference to the large lube groove…I was thinking of having Veral of LBT make one if he would. I’ve have never delt with Lee Precision as to custom molds.

Yes it is the RCBS.

Roachcreek,

I guess I missed what mold you guys are using. The only mold I can find is an RCBS..is this the one? As for lube I guess some mixture of ATF and lanolin might work also.

I would like to try the same bullet but with a larger lube groove leaving a small band at the base and at the junction of the ogive. Both bands being groove diameter not land riding. Might be able to use a harder alloy without shearing. Just scratching the old noggin. 🙄

I didn’t know there were so many powder burners playing with bb guns!

I have used the ATF when I could not get Crosman peloil, and I used some of it on Jerry’s recomendation for his bullets in my Ranger.

Did you also know you can use it in your Automatic Transmission when it gets low 💡 .

And do remember ATF is very high in cleaning detergents . If you ever run out of hand cleaner and your hands are grimy pour some of your ATF on your hands and clean as can be they will be . Better than lava soap and no roughness as well . Marvin

JB bore paste

Jerry,

What do you use?

Fire lap, JB?

Thanks,

I guess gorilla snot is the next big fad in lube but here’s what we use: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=519525.

I bought a 2 oz. tin about three years ago and I don’t know how many tens of thousands of slugs have been sized here since then but the tin of lube is about 80% full yet.

When the pressure on the lever changes, we just roll a brush lightly in the lube and the pass it through the die. It’s all done by feel, and it takes hardly any lube to make a huge difference.

After casting and sizing, we’ve found that no special lubes make much of a difference for a properly sized, near pure lead airgun slug. I generally just roll the slugs around in a tin that has a little bit of power steering fluid in it. My barrels seem to stay pretty clean, or at least I don’t need to clean any accumulated stuff out of them.

Now, I do most of my shooting with meticulously prepared barrels that don’t have rough finishes inside to collect lead or lube etc. I suppose if you have a barrel that has to collect lead or something to form a smooth surface, you might need a special lube to separate the seasoned surface from the bullet. I guess I’d rather buy a great barrel or spend a few hours polishing a bore than years spraying bullets with moly or chasing just the right lube…

I use it for the tuff case forming exercises, And i had a Winn M. 70 in 338 Winn that i was having trouble getting the groups down ,with the Lyman 33889 mold gas checked, and i was using Keith Thompson blue angel, Lyman 50-50 , i had this on the loading bench , so i started sizing and lubing with the 50-50, with a good smear of the walrus blubber, and the groups went from 2 1/2″ or so to under 1 ” to 1 1/2″, ???????

I was like what the !! any way could have been other things , slight alloy change??? anyway it kept working,

PB

Just the thing for Walrus hunting with my Ranger 45 ❗

I will try.

Yeah I guess I forgot about the petroeum and HPA.

Guess that narrows it down considerably.
