Fox hunting
Iv been asked to take a fox out that has broke into some guys pen and killed all there chickens.
I own an edgun matador .22 and wondering if its up for the job! If so were is the best place to hit it for a fast kill.

Yall must be lousy shooters. I took down foxes with my Mrod on regular hollowed point pellets. Forgot the edgun are single shots but it doesn’t take a .25 to kill one. Golden rule is just aim for the head, heart, lungs…vital organs.

we have lots of pigs here, but the steep terrain and thick vegetation makes it quite a challenge to find them

This is what a 28gr Domed .25 cal pellet can do been shot at 950 fps at 25-30 yards
The purpose is to end a life…. So there isn’t any wrong way to approach it. Use what you got and make the best out of it.

With that kind of firepower and knowing my gun, I would say 50 yds should be ok given a headshot. But then there are different species of foxes, – some bigger than others. A fox isn’t a fox. Very difficult to give recommendations………. 🙂

Naser, for a Fox 30 FPE is sufficient at 30-40 yards, but more important is to know the exact anatomy of the critter
I shot a few foxes which are very light and easy to kill but hundreds of raccoons and lots of opossums with all kinds of air guns (even Daisy 😳 ) and I tell folks now over 30 FPE and under 50 yards for about 30 lbs. weight or less as the minimum and shot placement is everything after that to knock them down quickly. More FPE is typically better unless it is just passing through. Pellet types matter as does caliber since it takes energy to expand a smaller pellet. Just IMO. I typically use about 50 FPE on coons.

sounds like an other inexperianced hunter wanting to give internet advice here,….seen plenty of them around.
BTW the between the eye shot whan the head is down is to low, it has to be more like 1 to 2 inches above the eye line

Eu Jins in a sub 12 fpe cal.22 airgun have a superb record of accuracy out to some 2 yds (may be 3)……….
Beyond that you may as well throw a stone or a dart, – most probably with better results….. 😉
And the quick accurate follow ups are not as easily obtained in a single shot gun. You’ll need some experience before you can master your own excitement and properly manage the second, third or whatever shot needed to kill the beast…..

The man asked for advices to get rid of a pest fox, not hunting as if its a sport. So don’t pose your big air guns and big pigs to give you credits for being an experienced hunter on all games.
BTW, you shouldn’t type too fast and misspelled “inexperianced”…either that or atleast Google the word first. Everybody is an expert these days….including air gunners.
Anytime you try to give advice about killing critters you better know what you talking about, ……otherwise just sit on the sidelines and watch
