Fox hunting
Iv been asked to take a fox out that has broke into some guys pen and killed all there chickens.
I own an edgun matador .22 and wondering if its up for the job! If so were is the best place to hit it for a fast kill.

……Imma stay out of the old guys picking on new guys kinda dramas…. Sounds like a bunch of whiny children to me. But on the topic, it can be done with a .22 if you get the ejun pellets with the hammer spring and valve to the max. Shoot it while its nose down eating/sniffing on the head between the eyes within 15-20yards. It will drop and roll and while its doing that, quickly put a few more on it.
The purpose is to end a life…. So there isn’t any wrong way to approach it. Use what you got and make the best out of it.

There’s no reason to ridicule an honest question from a forum member. Those who responded impolitely, were once every bit as stupid as you are now, if not more stupider!

My personal advice regarding this matter is to shoot the fox in the ass. Try for an ass-hole shot, if possible. My own target of choice is a “nut shot”…difficult, but possible if the light is right! It’s not necessary to kill a predator, 12 ft lbs of energy is just enough to remind them there is a price to pay for their intrusion. This same advice follows when sports shooting adulterers, thieves, pedophiles, Democrats, Attorneys, car thieves, Liberals, Entitlement-oriented minorities, and the occasional cock-sucker who wanders into your kill zone in a drug induced haze.
Will everyone feel this way? No, sad to say…there are those who differ. To wit, and to which, I say “Fuck ’em if they can’t take a joke!”
As one of the few educated individuals on this digital Sodom and Gomorrah, I remind you the bible says “Thou shalt not kill!” Now, I’ve never met this fellow “Thou”, but I do feel it’s good advice on a general level for all of us. Plus, there is no commandment that specifically states “Do not butt shoot those so entitled!”.

30 + ftlbs may do it but a sub 12 ftlbs gun isn´t enough – by a long shot. I have to agree Pocoloco this one time 😯 : Forget the whole thing.
Personally the rifle i´d choose for foxes would be either .17HMR or .22WMR. There are these monstrous .30 cal airguns in US more than capable for the job but at 12 ftlbs the .30 cal trajectory would be equivalent of a pub dart … You´d be better of throwing stones at it.
would have to agree with NP and Zoco as already noted. Need to have enough experience /knowledge about air gunning and your quarry. Having confidence and be efficient along with knowledge of the quarry you intend to hunt is a good beginning. I do agree with Zoco as to using a sub Fac gun to hunt fox with but with that being said fox are not a difficult animal to kill and a well place shot with a .22 30-32 fpe gun is medicine out to 40 yards. If in fact you plan on still hunting the coop, plan on long hours through most of the night unless you know his habits. I suggest an easier way to catch foxes is to use a box trap. They are very easy to catch and don’t have to spend days throughout the nights waiting for an opportunity unless it’s your desire to do so.

Knowing that you’re located in Manchester (UK) and therefore probably shoot with a sub 12 ft/lbs rifle, I’ll NOT recommend to even think about taking a shot at a fox, – not even at close range….
AND if you do, you may find a wounded fox running away faster than the speed of your .22 bullet ………..
A sub 12 ft/lbs Matador in .22 is NOT what you hunt fox with, – unless you want to show the world how stupid, inhumane and immature you are and the lack of knowledge you possess about airguns…. 😉
Even in Cal.25 and with a full powered FAC airgun, – I would not recommend it………

ok guys so seriously whats the minimum for shooting foxes and at what range ? Would a .25 FAC work ? say shooting JSB 25.4g at 900 FPS about 44 Ft/Lb ? If so at what maximum range should one do that too ?
