Q:

Gauge to fill with for accuracy

In order to not overfill my Talon’s tank with the Airforce Gauge does anyone here recommend a better more accurate gauge adapter to connect my Talon and Condor’s tank while filling up on my SCUBA as opposed to just filling the Airforce gauge to 2600psi?

I filled it up to 3000 and it clocked from 921 upper 800’s to all of a sudden 600 and at one point 400 😯

So I took a dime and placed it in the Airforce adapter and screwed the Talon’s tank in on top of it to bleed off a little air. This worked ok and then the fps jumped right back up to 800’s.
So I was wondering what gauge would be a decent honest reading for filling the sweet spot.

There are experiences that do things for people. Like when I applied for my job I was better and all after the Military’s Life experiences. But thats not everything. Just be happy with what you have. Your alright for that!
Your Dad was a Marine? my Dad was ..When I was a little boy and glorified War I wanted my Dad to tell me about some action. he said he typed a typewriter and didn’t see any action. At his brothers funeral last year I saw a picture of him with his brother who was in the ARMY and how his Brother Lee got permission to go see his Brother Richard (my Dad) because they ended up being in the same place near by in Korea. There was even a write up in the local News paper back home on brothers finding each other in war. As I looked at that picture and saw my Dad standing there with his M1 with his Brother I knew then he must have seen some stuff and the way he raised me I would bet my life he did his share. Typewriter?!… Whatever… So On the way home I said to my Brother that Dad must have killed and been pretty mean from the way we knew him. My Brother said “That was survival on a battle field” And “it was none of our business” Dad didn’t want to tell us about that.
Then like a dumb ass I finally understood. There was a jacket hanging in plastic wrap to protect it from dust in our garage when I was little. It had the name Boyd labeled in the back. That was one of Dad’s buddies that didn’t need it anymore after he was killed. Those typewriters must have been mean and quick. 😳

My Fathers passing was a lot like your Dads. He retired in 1992 to work for me and passed away in 98 from complcations from flu etc. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him. Side note, I buried my Dad with his Brothers in arms at the San Joaquin National cemetary in Santa Nella, http://www.cem.va.gov/CEMs/nchp/sanjoaquinvalley.asp The day of his burial a high ranking Marine had been buried just hours before my Father, They had a special Honor guard out that day for this mans service, 21 guns salute and such. Well they asked me if I would like them to help in my Fathers burial and I was honored to accept. Looking back on it, I think my Dad would of approved. In fact later, my best friend Richard said “Man the only thing bad about that whole funeral was that we’ll never be able to get one like it”. Neither him nor I served. To this day I regret I didn’t join when I was 18. I would of been a better man for it.

Gnaw.. I just had to open my mouth because I love your statement on your remarks at the bottom! Perhaps we can drink a cold one because we like the same airguns! My Father too was a Korean war vet. He was a Marine. I was Navy. I worked in a machine shop onboard the USS Tripoli LPH 10. I have been to Africa-Somalia,Kenya Uganda, Singapore,Hong Kong-Tai Land-Phuket and quite a few areas on land within the middle East. I have been on land to all of those places.
“We get around” My Dad died in December of 2000. Cancer. He was 69. Man,the guy retires at 65. Meets Cancer at 67 and dies at age 69. I hope I get more retirement time. I have been doing a raw veggie juice diet with one of those Jack Lalanee Juice machines. I feel a hell of a lot better. I drink about 3 pounds of raw vegitables a day. I have lost weight too. Sometimes I think having red meat for the main corse of every meal with Beer is maybe what promoted his colin cancer.
😉

There is a friend I work with. He was a Marine Sniper the same time I was in. He also knew a marine that was on my ship at the time. Small world eh?!.. Chad tells me of Iraqi Republician guards he nailed with his .308 from 800 yards out. He even gave me a Republician guards cap from a guy he nailed. He has 7 of those caps. He tells me some interesting stories. In fact, he let me barrow his log book with his adjustments and sighting in his rifle with different ballistic charts he used. And some training manuals and some other books he likes regarding snipers …
He gets a kick out of my squirrel photos though. 😆 He and I both were in Africa together but didn’t know each other then. Now we work together.

My Squirrel said he had some ole sea stories from warfare with Humans who’s vegitables they were raiding. And dogs who have tried to catch him. He wants a drink as well… 😆

Thank you very much for your service to our Great country. My father served in the Marines in korea. I hope someday I can meet you and buy you a cold drink. :18

Yeah.. It’s been since 2007 since Tony rebuilt my Talon to .22 with a Lothar Walther Stainless 21″ Barrel. I have been shooting Kodiak 21 grainers at 900fps and it is very tight!

And… Your all very welcome. 8) And very worth it.
I served in the Persian Gulf three times. Hopefully you all can read this one. 😆

Thats alright…
I kind of figured that. 😀

Mine should be done sometime soon. The Condor .25 cal full works!

Oh man your gonna love that, that’s what my friend had done. They make the .22 look like a .177 lol.

Thats alright…

Hey DFS I just realized I never answered your questions. Tony did a full tune and shroud on my Condor so it’s quiet and powerful.

Ok thanks Ninja. 😉 Now do you use that line to fill a Airforce tank or is that another fitting for a different rifle?
I see it looks like if I got a different gauge I could screw it in the Airforce adapter with some of that Teflon tape they use.
But I also wonder if gauges are gauges? Meaning it might be pointless to consider a different gauge if there is nothing to calibrate it to? Or is one gauge actually made with different materials that makes it a better instrument? When they build gauges you would think that they calibrate to a pound load from a large source or something?
I honestly have no Idea really. But I will look into it and I thank you guys for the links and company for sure!
Im going to make a cool indoor Chrony set up for my garage so I don’t have to take all that stuff to the farm where I shoot. I can clock speeds, pellets weights and pressure settings and play the speed game and then I can refill and simply head out to target shoot for grouping.

glycerin guages?.. Do you have a link? Or where are they sold?

This guy sells them – $26

I got one recently and like it –

Use PSP, P-CS4, Elements, etc.” What?
I don’t understand what this is. Can you tell me more. But I do know one thing. My Camera wouldn’t zoom quite as close because the Scopes lenses are working with the Camera’s lens and that is also part of the picture weather the hairs are there or not. And the little shot at dusk with the hairs lit a bit…etc..
It was just something that worked for what I was doing. As we can see I got some shots that were worth looking at. But I would like to know more about Use PSP, P-CS4, Elements, etc. What is this?

I do have a question about Chroney’s as a matter of fact…. 😆
I want to build and rig a cool set up for my garage so I can clock at home before I go to the field in the event I don’t want to take all that to the field. So I was going to look into lights. Then I started thinking maybe I can get mounts and rig my own lights. 💡 Maybe I could use a fish tank light top from a pet store? Those lights advertised for Chronys in the add don’t seem to be any special lights. They even look about the same speed as the lights used on fish tanks. Anyone here use lights indoors? What kind of lights are you using. Maybe they would be good to buy and it would save me from building a light fixture too though….
Anyone using lights have a picture of your set up?
🙂

I apologize for the acronyms.
PSP= Photoshop Pro, P CS4= Photoshop CS4, Elements= Adobe Elements
It was kind of a tongue in cheek reply. Boy, tough crowd around here.

You are correct, it is in fact just a simple frosted 40w aquarium bulb.
I’m quite lazy so I just bought the lighting add-on for my Beta Chrony (blue). I only use it when shooting strings outside (WA doesn’t get too many sunny days you know). I’ve never had to use the lighting add-on while shooting inside my house. I guess my conventional lighting is ample enough.

glycerin guages?.. Do you have a link? Or where are they sold? Everywhere? SCUBA shops?…
I live in Fresno Savagesam 😆
I think I would like to look into those gauges. So..Savagesam you have a Stock Condor? How do you like it? Have you ever changed your O rings in your hammer tube?
I have had my Talon SS co,pletly Modded out from Anthony. It rocks! I am also buying a Condor from his as well.
I remember my Talon out of the box. it shot very nice. Really nice actually. With that 24″ barrel you have it is loud yes?
Anyone know about those lights for indoor Chrony?

Marc

i bought a glycerin filled guage from mcmaster carr one for my scuba fill guage 2″ and one for my hill pump 1.5″, both togeather were about 50 bucks but they are both dead on accurate with each other, i love glycerin guages they are worth the extra cash, you just don’t have problems with them

I bet I’ve already asked you this, but, where are you located? I’m in Merced.
