Getting rid of cats
Our neighbors behind us have a male cat that keeps coming over meowing, spraying our bushes, chasing squirrels away, etc. and it is driving me crazy. I would like to do something to this cat to keep it from coming back in our yard, but don’t know what I should do to keep him away. Any suggestions on a way I could humanely keep this cat away?
Thanks,
Tyler

Thanks for the help everyone. I don’t want to kill the cat as I don’t want to worry about a lawsuit from my neighbor, he is the kind that would sue you at something small and minor like this. I think the best way to go will probably be to get an airsoft gun, or catch the cat in a trap and take it to the owner and tell him my concerns.
Now feral cats are a different story. Out in the country if I see one on my grandparents property I will not hesitate to take them out given a clear shot.
THIS FORUM ROCKS!!!!!
Wow! Photos of shot dead cats.
Last summer the next door neighbor (a meth head)
let his pitbull roam the neighborhood. One day I heard
my 5 year old daughter screaming out in the yard.
I went to the window and saw this monster had somehow
made it past our fence and into our yard and was trotting towards
her. I ran to the living room and grabbed my Condor
and put an EunJin in his noggin from about 45 yards.
I buried him in our motocross track and now we have a new
jump.
I wrote about this (no photos) on the airgun advice forum and
the pinhead who runs it banned me for it. Those weiners said that
I was a horrible person for killing a neighbors pet. They didn’t care
that it belonged to a meth dealing low life or that it was on my
property headed straight towards my kid.

I’m neither for nor against the dispathing of semi feral/feral cats. Semi feral would be those in which the neighbors leave out to roam and disrupt the neighborhood. Any cat which is let out of the house will revert back to a semi wild/feral state and begin to hunt on its own doing damage to the local bird population. This i think is very irresponsible on the owners part and shows little caring for the animal they have taken ownership of. Face it how many of us have seen roadkill cats?? All of us is the answer. If the owners really cared for said animal they’d look a little deeper in their decision to let Tigger loose in a urban or rural enviroment. These cats do untold damage to local bird/small game populations. They get hit by cars, fight with one another over territory, spary vegetation and fixed landmarks making for undesireable areas for our children.
I have a similar problem with a neighbor in which they released a cat they felt no longer fit in the family. Although i’ve noticed since they have gotten a pair of chocolate labs 😕 I was told by them that i could shoot the grey cat but not their white one. This grey cat has been stalking my backyard this past winter. In a month or so my little boy will be playing back there again and this cat is not very friendly. Add that we have a sandbox for him, where is the cats defecating and urinatng?? This is not something i brought on myself, but something my neighbors have brought on me. Does chemical warfare work? Or does the animal just learn to evade you and return when your not there?? Felines be smart and are very alert to their surroundings.
Some guys hate cats just to hate them, i’m not one of these. I like cats fine when they are where they should be and not harrasing or pissing in my yard. As a home owner i reserve the right to take care of any animal which is doing damage to my property this includes making for a less then sanitary/safe area for my child to play in. Live trapping and a subsequent trip to the humane society is a option. But don’t turn a blind eye on the fact that more then likely the humane society will have to put the cat down unless the owner/s come to claim said animal. In my case no one will come for the cat, no one cares for Tigger. So where does that leave me?? If the owners of these animals have so little respect for their neighbors or are so narrow minded, that they are unwilling to see things from a neighbor or egological perspective. Where does that leave neighbors who have to endure anothers cat due to irresponsible and narrow minded actions on the owners behalf??? Think about it.
As far as my situation goes, i’ll look into it as the weather warms and decide what to do. Its either take the animal in or dispatch it and bury it in the compost bin. Compassion comes in different forms, i wonder how hungry or thristy this cat has been over the winter, birds are slim and everything is frozen. Might be the best thing is to put it out of its misery, if it proves to be friendly i may take it in. We’ll see, i know this my rig pushing 50+fpe with a Kodiak will have no problem dropping the cat same as a the vets needle injects the sedative to to put the cat asleep for good. When you look at the fact that 1-20 cats are adopted and the rest put down, whats the difference? You saved the vet/humane society a few bucks/time in having to do the job for you. Sad but true, sometimes doing the right thing doesn’t feel so right. Look at it objectively and your choices narrow to a couple of options.
I’m with D/H on this one 😈 😈 😈
cat, dog, bird, or your favorite gerbil KEEP it out of my yard and house!
I have a worthies retried stripper living next door with an untrained balls hanging pugg that likes to come over shit in my yard, walk straight in my house lift his leg and piss, my dog has torn that shitbird up more than once for it and it still wont learn, I have told her meny times to keep it home, and cut the nuts off or I will, but the dog keeps coming over. Two days ago I caught it in the house again, kicked that little fucker 15′ straight out the door and told spakes to bite the face which he happily did as he loves the taste of blood, that stupid ass dog was in the yard last night scabs and all, spackes tasted some more blood. if it keeps happing I will not tell my dog “that’s enough” and their will be a dead pugg for her to take care of.
I am not in to cleaning up shit of any kind, that is wy I have trained my free roaming dog to stay in MY yard with no fences as boundaries, I move in to a new place take him out and show him the “fence line”. the only time he goes past this invisible line in the meadow is to go deep in the woods to pinch out a grumpy, I got lucky with him as he dose not like to be seen doing his thing.
that’s enough time for me on the soap box for now, as I need mor coffee, but my congrats to DH for finally getting some cat pics up 8)
Feral cats are another thing altogather. I would shoot them too. But this is a neighbor’s pet.
I looked to pick a fight not. I assure you. The picture is of a Feral of many, that had overtaken and infested my brothers property in the wild west of Hawaii. Some time prior to this cat being shot, it had scratched and attacked his little girl. The cat, among many was fed repeatedly by his neighbor without any respect for his family’s well being. It was justifiably served.
You have the right to keep all the animals you want…..so long as you keep them on your own property. If it comes on to my property I have the RIGHT to shoot it dead. And I will.

I think you have gone a bit far here. Cats are not dogs that will stay in a yard. For you to bait someones pet and shoot or poison it is just wrong.
I’m not looking for a fight, but posting a picture of the deed is over the top. In the city killing someones cat would get you in big trouble.
Mr. DaveK,
The purpose of my response is to Scotch the myths and rumors of Pet ownership. There are no myths and rumors. Only cold hard facts apply to pet ownership.
I will ask respectfully that you pay close attention to my text.
TXW91 is in a situation that his neighbors have, without thought, cast upon to him.
His neighbors, being pet owners, have shown him absolutley no respect for his property.
If you were to actually read my response you may note that I made FULL MENTION that the animal would suffer a slow painful death by drinking the anti freeze. I do not wish to make any animal suffer. I do not, repeat..do not get my kicks that way.
Read further….I believe in the humane treatment of animals…….but I believe more in the right of a homeowner to not be subjected to a selfish neighbor that thinks their freakin’ pets have a free roam of the neighborhood and one’s property.
May I please Sir make this clear in no uncertain terms. If you are a pet owner….keep your pets, as they should be kept, on your own freaking property or be subjected to the consequences…….however severe they may be.
Note this well my man.
My neighbors know good and well that their dogs are not welcome around my house. I’ll take care of their pet Kats too.
Respectfully
Dirty Harry

Dissolve 3-5 Tylenol in wet cat food. 1 or 2 Extra Strengths should be enough to do the trick. Acetaminophen is toxic to felines. It’ll go in it’s own time and appear natural.
Make a rock salt round for your airgun. When that nasty ass cat wiggles his tail/pisses let him have it right in the ‘ol exhaust pipe! 😯
The salt will absorb/dissolve.
Rent a live trap and trap the cat. Drink lots of beer and piss in a bucket for a few days. When you catch the cat…whip out your dick and piss on him then dump your saved bucket of piss on him!….He should get the idea.
Cats understand piss means it is your territory…Give him a good soaking. 😀
Had a job to do at my mother’s house when she had problems with a determined cat. The stuff I bought was a granulated black pepper compound that smelled like dead, sweaty ass. Two treaments later and no kitty.
Barring that, a more entertaining approach would be a capsaicin-based bear spray ambush on the damned thing.
Sorry “Dirty Harry” but I think you’re way out of line with your recommendation. The antifreeze treatment is perhaps silent, but it is definitely slow and cruel.
If the cats are really a problem, set out a live-trap, baited with hotdogs. When you catch the offender the first time, take him to the owner and tell him of the problem. When you catch him again, take him to the pound, and let the owner retrieve him.
It will probably result in the neighbor keeping the cat indoors. It probably won’t improve your friendship with that neighbor, but I hardly think you’re worried about that.

A cheap underpowered airsoft won’t have any penetration. I’ve used it to train my own cats to keep out of the garden. But, yeah, a soaker would be funnier. 😆

If a particular dog or critter is displaying harmful nature to your children, then by all means, put it out while you can.
But please, lets not add to the public impression that American Pit Bull Terriers are savage. As a Pit Bull owner I can assure you that they’re one of the most owner loyal, child friendly, and intelligent breeds out there.
Pit Bulls do have the capability to inflict harm, but what dog doesn’t. Our measly indoor Chihuahua’s are more likely to tear your nose or ears off.
Bad nature in these animals is brought on by the treatment from
their owners. Thugs choose to fight and abuse the breed because of it’s strength and bulky appearance. Naturally, the dogs first instinct is to defend itself, or it’s owner. Had the thugs chosen to fight Lhasa Opso’s, they’d do the same thing, and thus, the same public impression.
