Q:

gold pellets!

I finally got my Chrony in and did some testing. I got with a Stock SS 28.5 Fpe with 21.1 grain double gold. I got 23 Fpe with 18.1 grain. Not bad for a stock ss. I think I will stick with the Double Gold Kodiaks 21.1 grain. They are more power and keep the barrel cleaner and not to mention accurate. Just so damn expensive!

Man!! I gotta Get Me one of THEM!!! 😯 😀 😀 😀 😉

DG weight in at 1.4 grams or 21.1grains. They don’t expand because in my ss they don’t reach the velocity it requires to expand! But on similiar weight pellets they will disintegrate.

They only penetrate more if you shine them up first. The intense shine will deteriorate your target before the pellet even reaches it. This alone will cause the gold pellets to penetrate farther.

Sheesh, Buzz… I thought everyone knew that…. 😆

all this talk of penetration makes me wanna polish my nob 😉

hell here in ny its prolly illeagal to hunt with em
cant use full metal jackets
and now that airguns hunting is legal i dont wanna go to jail ill just grab a hand full of lead pellets and lick my fingers after
😉

Well, that’s amazing shit right there! I thought they were solid gold! Double gold even!

behold!!

the golden king wears… VERY eggshell THIN cloths! 😯

Yes I know everything there is to know so agree or disagree fine but please state your theories on why they stay intact more.

Lower velocity and thus lower foot pounds of energy compared to what you could get will a full lead pellet…

In terms of expansion, here is what counts… Picture this, a slug that weighs for simplicity’s sake, 10 grains moving 1000 fps, solid soft lead. It hits the target and expands to the point where the slug never leaves the carcass. At the end of the pellets travel all it’s energy has been transferred into the target. NOTHING is left over…

Now another harder slug of the same weight hits the target/carcass and leaves the other side with 250 fps of velocity left on it… That is energy that has FAILEd to be transfered into the target and therefore it is WASTED, not to mention dangerous…

If you do the math with the same weight pellets you can see how much energy isn’t actually hitting the target but in fact going through it and looking for something else to impart it’s energy to…

Theories aside your opposing, not only physics, but a few hundred years of ballistic science and general hunting knowledge… 😕

Have a good one, none of this technical crap matters if your having fun! 😉 😉 That is what really counts…

Have you ever tried squeezing an egg from the top and bottom and could not break it???

The above is from the PA site. The DG are just Kodiaks with a VERY thin layer of copper. If you think this makes for a significant “eggshell” effect while hunting, great, enjoy!

The rest of us will continue to be wary of expansion clains and velocity differences etc. I’ll pick up a tin and try them myself as I need to get some .22 wadcutters for another reason and the PA prices are good for 4 tins… (except for the air ventury shit which is crap at any price!)

DG weight in at 1.4 grams or 21.1grains. They don’t expand because in my ss they don’t reach the velocity it requires to expand! But on similiar weight pellets they will disintegrate. In some cases expansion is wanted and which they invented hollow points. DG or Double gold pellets will penetrate deeper than any hollow and its obvious why. For small game it might be great shooting hollows. I personally love what they do. Get into a little bigger animal and you want something you know will pass right through go for the DG in the velocity range of 800fps.

The DG’s are harder and weigh less….. Seems they may not be just a
Kodiak coated with copper… Either way, a pellet that does not expand
upon impact will have much less knock down power and shock value than
one that does deform…. Makes the lead pellet a better hunting tool….
unless you are hunting bricks or really brittle animals….

The copper pellet forms like an egg shell barrier. This is my theory of why these copper pellets stay more intact the non coated pellets. Just my theory not a fact. Yes I know everything there is to know so agree or disagree fine but please state your theories on why they stay intact more.

An egg won’t break because of the shape and the fact that equal
pressure is being applied to the top and bottom and the force is also
being applied to a greater surface area because of the shape of your
palms…. A pellet does not have the shape of an egg and when it hits
resistance the pressure is only being applied to the front of the pellet….
Not hardly a good comparison….

Have you ever tried squeezing an egg from the top and bottom and could not break it???

It is unlikely that a pellet made of anything less than lead where it could be actual lead, will carry more energy down range…

If the shape is the same, it is impossible for a lighter material to add energy when substituted for a heavier one… Regardless of what the pellet does when it impacts another material…

If you shoot a plastic pellet it will bounce as well, doesn’t mean it is more deadly… 😕 If anything it means it is carrying LESS energy and won’t destroy itself on impact…
