Gold washer
Anyone know what this gold washer is for? Took my gun apart to add a depinger into the air tube. As I was picking up stuff off the floor I saw it on the ground. Not sure if it is part of the gun or something else. BTW I shat myself degassing this thing. First puff of air was terrifying at 150 bars.

Ok, I can’t see why edgun should be any diffrent. My $400 mrod wasn’t regulated, so the pressure and flow at the transfer port were higher than my regulated edgun. Think about thits for a second. What possiable force would cause the Oring to be sucked into the barrel? Vacuum. Why would there be vacuume in this area of the system? Two possiablities. Either the valve closes to fast and the pellet is causing vacuum like a plunger in a syringe, or its the venturie effect. The first is just about ridiculous, at least it seems that way. So, if its the venturie effect, it had to be leaking to start with. Right? Dnt get me wrong, if that’s the only way to seal a system like this, then I guess it is, but it seams like a neoprene quad seal or a hollow copper crush ring would be better suited. The reason I don’t like it is because if its a soft material, its not going to seal more than two of three torque cycles. If its hard, its going to deform the aluminum valve body. According to wingman, its a purpos made 1 off part that would have to be ordered from Estonia (don’t hold your breath on that one) or machined on your own. If I still had access to a smitty, Id try my own, but I don’t anymore. All I got is a cheap drill, and all my grinding, polishing stuff left over from old endeavor. I’m thinking about investing in a small mill/drill or harbor freight lathe. But I’d like to find a source of acceptable replacement parts in the mean time.

Transfer port diameter on .22 is smaller than on .25 and .30. It has more area for rubber oring to seal on the edge of the transfer port.

Wouldn’t the Standard 22 require a higher airflow to make up for the shorter barrel than the long .22s? :suprisedn: I see it with the .25s and .30s.
It is indeed the brass washer that seals between your valve and transfer port under your forward breech block.
All my .22 std R3s and R3Ms have had rubber o ring here and havent given any probs at all.

You were correct Ville and after reading your PM, I was motivated to put an end to it lol. I don’t remember who told me when I first started looking into the Matadors that the new ones do not need a de-pinger. So I thought the issue was corrected. Today was my first time taking the gun apart and seeing how everything works. I have to say, I need a de-gasser that will do it slowly rather than using a broom stick. Ernest is going to be taking my money for a de-gasser and regulator setter.
Jamie, My Matador has a noticeable ping after the hammer slap. By putting this vinyl tube in there, it has reduced the sound significantly. At first I was like who cares about it, but after shooting hundreds of round one after another, it starts to ring your ears. Now all I hear is the hammer slap, the air go pfff and a very distant ping.
Doug, According to Ted in Madison, it only reduce the shot count by one and a half shots. Totally worth it in my books!

John, I did recall some talk in regards to a gold washer but when i searched the forum, the only thing that came up was the gold washer in the knockoff Atlas bipod.

I have been degassing before I separate the breech block from the valve but ya I had mine fall out the first time too. The rubber tends to blow out or so it sounds in months of reading but if you dislike it that much, please replace yours with a rubber oring and send me the brass one, I love spare parts.
I guess this happens to most people who takes their guns apart for the first time. Yes I am included! You got to separate the air tube and the barrel assembly completely, remove the brass washer and put it away before degassing, otherwise washer will do 0 to 890 f/s in less than a second!!
Then I missed it to, cause I’ve been looking for somewhere to bitch about it..

It used to be an o-ring – or so it was in both of my R3´s with the steel breech. I don´t see the point in using a Cu washer in its place … :suprisedn:
While on the subject, how do you guys feel about the metal transfer port seal? I wish it was just an Oring. I’d convert back, but my ring is stuck on the valve and I’ve put as much force into trying to remove it as I’m going to without a replacement. I’m also concerned that it has deformed the valve body enough that getting an Oring to seal there might not be easy. A that point, I’d be shit outta luck.
