Q:

GOT BUSTED BY L.A.P.D TODAY..

Normal day..I headed down to the national park where I usually shoot my condor at, a place where no signs of no fire arms are posted. I started doing fine..poping soda cans from any distance. Soon I heard choppers around me and cop cars…I didn’t mind, u are in L.A. Things like that are common…suddenly I heard: “It’s L.A.P.D, drop your gun and stay at where you are!!!” from some loud speakers..They didn’t see me, next thing I know was two fully armored cops pointing their Beretta 92FS at me..I put my hands up and walked towards them..I was being stuffed and cuffed in the squad car. The cops started heading down to the station and met up with like 8 other squad cars at the a road block with cops armed with scoped m4s, m16s and 12 gauges…u name it…I felt really disturbed the peace.. 🙁 later on I was questioned and one cop mentioned him and his LT were also trying to get the same rifle…I was soon released however with a misdemeanor ticket and my condor staying in their hands for now…whatever…I’m just happy i actually didn’t get booked..Guys, hope you would be careful after hearing my story…really miss the days in Michigan now..days where you can just fire at will… no matter whatever gun u r using…hopefully they can gimme my gun back tomorrow 🙁

amen HO…
those were good old school guys
I hear you on protecting the rank & file, where we cross swords is when you want to assign extra special authourity to ALL of them…
just across the board as it were…
I armed up pleanty of the rank & file back in the day years prior to DRMO freebees, solid LEOs that knew the weapons provided. As I stated I am not against a well armed LEO but I am resolutely against an armed asshole with a badge HO…
honestly I think both of us are probably on close to the same page 😉

The reason for the overkill is an officer safety issue ,

I Know I know, it seems pretty dumb and brutish but there is a reason for it , (in most cases, not all)

the reason for the overkill response is an intimidation tactic used to let the “”bad guy Know”” that he cant win if he chooses to fight . They want to give the impression that he doesn’t have a rats chance , and any violence is just going to end bad for him .

Its used in the hopes of discouraging a person to commit violence

thereby protecting the public and officers from possible violence.

should they give the gun back ?? HELL YES!!! and a receipt too!

Now when I was 15 years old I was on the rail road tracks with my crossman 760 powermaster shooting pigeons

It was near a busy street in the city. the cops came up their with their guns drawn , stuck them in my face .

when they found out it was just a BB gun one cop took a shot with it ,
and they said to me , Listen we didnt mean to scare ya but we had a call for a man on the railroad tracks with a rifle , they took me back home and gave the gun to my dad .

But I understood that these men were reacting “”in the dark”” they didnt know it was a BB gun .

and some could argue that they did the wrong thing if it were a real rifle

Most police officers understand and have a distinct awareness of the tactical advantage of a man with a rifle VS. the officer with a pistol

Not where you want to be.

So for good or ill there is a reason for the over reaction .

yeah, while I accept the idea of back up, the police Ninja piglets do tend to get called out way more often then needed…
thing is most of this is attempting to justify the existance of these kind of units…if they are only needed once or twice every couple years it bcomes damn hard to convince the County/City government of their necessity. So time and time again in jurisdictions across the nation they deploy the SWATZI’s even on domestic calls, its really nuts in some areas.
SWAT was a product of the aftermath of the SLA seige in LA back in the 70s where LE was SERIOUSLY outgunned. It was something vigorously promoted in LE circles and today even the tinyiest bubbleshit jurisdiction has a “unit” in most cases armed with DRMO’s M16s and M60s that the feds have handed out like candy free of charge.
Not against a well armed LEO, as far as I am concerned every squad car should have a select fire rifle providing the operator is FULLY trained on the weapon.
Thing is most cops I have known over the years could bearly qualify with their issue sidearm.

I guess they were pissed they had to call out the swat team for someone with a pellet gun. In NJ its the same law for a pellet gun as an AR15!
I would certainly want back up to even ask you what you were doing. I probably would have laughed and told you to case the gun next time.

Randy:
I agree police have a shitty job, no question there
that said to excuse going overboard by what if arguments is stepping in dangerous waters.
worst case is the most seldom occurring case so to respond to every call with jackbooted SWATZIs armed with german burp guns really is serious overkill and further a terrific waste of manpower and resources
it gets worse yet when someone gets shot down due to police escalation of a non event and that happens regularly in our nation
I dont buy this silliness about how everything changed since 911, we still have a bill of rights and the police still have rules they need to follow too.
The moment it was determined that there was not only not a threat but not even a firearm involved in this case it should have been over. Thing is by the point the authorities deploy tatical units or the like they usually try to justify their own over reaction by a seizure or minor ticket.
slippery slope and the grade down hill is getting faster every year even tho the threat levels out there are actually becoming less and less by the DOJs own demographic studies

Out of sight out of mind.

If they see someone walking with a airgun/gun and don’t check it out and then something happens they will get roasted by the Chief, the Media, and the Lawyers.

Unfortunately times have changed and the days of not worrying and saying ah he’s most likely just farting around are gone.

Imagine if that Condor was actaully an AR-15 and something was up?

Personally I think Cops have a shitty job watch this and decide what would you have done?

What shit? J/K

Do you guys think they will return the shit back to “realbull”? I down it. Some cops like gangster, they properly took it home for blinking in their back yard right now, LOL.

They give you your shit back yet ?

X2. Thanks for the reminder/bump Bennee.

They give you your shit back yet ?

I’d join the NRA or at least ask them for a pro-gun lawyer in your area. And really watch what you say. So much of the case depends on you and what you say/said already. Good luck.

No way,no how, will it ever be the business of the law to regulate the movement of law-biding americans. Next time the law asks [where you headed] Politely tell them to KISS YOUR ASS.

Realbull,

Are you a member of the NRA?

They have free legal help if you are, and even if you are not, they might be able to help you or tell you who to contact that will.

If you are not, JOIN – it’s worth the $25

CALL them and find out who in California will represent you.

ARM YOURSELF with the best legal advise you can.

go to http://www.NRA.org

I hope you get your rifle back!

Dankgus:
Walking down the street with a rifle over your shoulder could do nothing but invite trouble, no matter where you are. The gun should always be in a case when out in public until you get to your destination, and that means inside the car too, in case you get pulled over.

Can’t blame the Deputies for checking you out. Best thing to do is avoid walking on public roads with a gun exposed for all to see. When a cop asks you where you are going, especially with a “gun” in your possession, any gun airgun or not, you better give them an answer and quickly, without hesitating. If you don’t give them an answer or take your time, they will assume you are up to no good.
