Q:

Great First Focal Plane Scope back in stock

Hey gang, from a recommendation from Chad2 I got one of the Primary Arms 4-14X44 FFP Mil-Mil scopes to try on my .22 Cricket Std. I had never had one of those FFP scopes before, and WOW is it nice! Primary Arms is actually near the Houston area (Pearland, TX) so I went to their shop and looked at them before buying. For anyone that ever wanted to try a FFP scope, this is a GREAT deal. They had been out of stock for quite some time, but I noticed today they are shown as being in stock again and for only $229.00!!

Check ’em out here:

NP!

THX!

Salty: i used 17.7 because that is the twist rate of the .25 cricket barrel. 450mm.

Chad, what did you use for barrel twist rate for the .25?

Chad, you zero at 90 yards?! Heck, I thought my 40 yard zero was too far… 🙂

I do that because at 90 yards is the range that uses the full range of my dots up and down. 25 yards goes just above my top dot.

This is the peak of my pellet.

I do both holdover and turrets. There is a time and place for both. If you’re set up in a hide and you have a known range then turrets are far more accurate. Second focal plane is easy to use for holdover you just need to know where the scope is zero on the magnification. The reality is for the ranges being shot with an airgun there is no reason to really go over 12X, and in my experience the mirage makes most everything above 16X unusable. There is a reason the USMC specs their M40A1 with a Schmidt & Bender PMII 3-12x scope. You guys can get a much higher quality scope for the money when choosing a fix power. Fix powered scopes are immutable, that is no need to worry about calculations for holdover, they are simple, durable and lighter. The main problem with a FFP is at the top magnification the reticle is too thick for how precise the modern PCP rifle can be. I was able to significantly tighten my groups with a thin reticle.

this is my reticle and range set up center is 90 yards

Salty that’s the Strelok program, you can email the reticle to yourself through it

Was hoping you’d say that… I’ve downloaded the software, but haven’t even opened it up yet… Dang work keeps getting into the way of my habits! 🙂

What about the falcon menace.seems like a nice scope for 360,00 its not bad.good reviews.

I am a hold over shooter and so an ffp scope is a must for me. I have also looked into the falcons but they just dont have as much use on them yet or reviews to prove it.so I went with the primary arms but my next will most likely be swfa 3-15×42 ffp maybe for my 10/22.

I bought my first FFP early last summer and they are great. SWFA Mil to Mil turrets, real nice scope.

Sozy, what is that software you are using for the reticles?

I’d already have the Vortex if they’d focus below 50 yards. That’s why I was looking at the Bushnell. I want an FFP. I don’t use “clicks” in these air guns so far. I’ve been using hold over/under so far. I’m going to make me an alignment jig like GKU posted up on the other thread so I can optically center the scope. I really enjoy shooting thru the scope cam. In archery, I video every shot on an animal… since ’95, I’ve got probably 200+ Kills on video. Would like to get some squirrel, hog and bird kills on video… I’ve got a bunch of turtle heads exploding 🙂 With the scope aligned near its otic center, it will make getting the scope cam lined up so much easier…
