Having some problems with my .25 Need help again
Ok this morning was the first day that it was not snowy and windy since I have had my .25 barrel so I shot a few groups to see what it could really do. I am shooting at 40 yards and using JSBs. My first group was not so good(1.5inches), the second was good at under .75 inches, the third was bad again(over 1.5inches), the fourth had most of the shots go into .5 inches and two shots openng it up to over 1.5 inches. I don’t know what the problem is. 😥 The only thing I can come up with is that the JSBs are not consistant in this barrel, the numbers are good but the groups are not. I will try some different .25s when I get them but have only JSBs for now.
It’s not my tank or valve because it works fine on my other Talon.
It’s not my scope because I tried it on my BSA Lonestar and got great groups.
It’s not the wind because there wasn’t any this morning.
It’s not me because I shot several groups from my other Talon and BSA and got several good, consistant groups from both.
Any thoughts?

Sometimes you might need to shim the bottle collar. It can be out of alignment and that makes the tophat out of alignment. When you put the bolt on it, it then is askew a bit and can cause erratic shots.

Ok I checked the crown and it is good. I am in the process of stripping it down, cleaning, and lubing everything. I also put new breech o-rings in when I first got the barrel so they should be broken in good after 500 shots. I have a small torque wrench so I will tighten everything evenly when I put it back together. I will also check the top hat alignment.

Loosen all bolts to barrel and tighten them evenly
Check the alignment of your top hat and breech. Make sure they are parallel and in alignment.
Clean your hammer and frame to be sure there is not shit in there.
Damn that was not the problem!! 👿 👿 👿 I thought it was because the groups I shot after I loosened the cocking knob were great. Well I guess I got lucky because today they are erratic again.

I tried both tanks on both guns and they work fine on my .22 Talon.

I put some silicone grease on the breech o-rings just to make sure that wasn’t the problem, and it wasn’t.
Still only have JSBs but I don’t think they are the problem because I have shot probably a dozen groups .5 inches or under. I order some pellets and won’t get them until next week to test.
Does the barrel need cleaned? I don’t think so because 1 or 2 groups per fill are good or even great.(7-5 shot groups per fill) Is it possible that a dirty barrel will shoot a bad group, then good, bad, bad, good, bad, and bad.
Any thoughts again?

No it’s not the valve, read my second response. If I tighten the cocking knob all the way I get inconsistant numbers in the 700s, but if I loosen it I get consistant numbers in the 880s.
The new Talon valve and tank I bought last May was exactly like this… After probably 100 shots and no change in it’s faulty behavior… Chrony had the Chrony red led lights so I know it’s good to go. My other Talon valve does not do this at all…

You have a valve that has been ‘touched’ right? I know Talon Tunes can work the valve to get it to operate correctly… I may send mine in when I swap out the Condor valve I bought…
Oh yeah I forgot to ask, has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks for the reply guys. I got it figured out now. I guess I should have mentioned that I have cleaned as Walt instructed and shot over 400 pellets through it. That was not the problem, it was the cocking knob. I noticed that the bushing was worn badly so I ordered some from Airforce and just got them today. Well when I screw in the cocking knob all of the way it will not slide to the side so I loosened it just enough to slide over and still got bad results.(chrony numbers like 750, 704, 765,735) I said to myself “What the hell” and then loosened the cocking knob even more so it slides to side with ease, instead of last time when the bottom of the cocking knob was rubbing against the frame…..and it worked!! 😀 The cocking knob is so loose that it turns a little during cocking but it works. My first 5 shot group at 40 yards was .5 inches or under, judging through the scope and the numbers look like this now 885,889, 884, 880.
Shoot the shit out of it.
Also put a q tip inside the muzzle and check it there is any micro burrs.
Yeah shoot at least 100 or so pellets before getting too concerned. You gotta get that lead worked into the barrel.
If it is a new or freshly cleaned barrel then the bore will need re-leading. just keep shooting groups or a chrony string and they should tighten up.
i had the same problem when I cleaned my barrel, was shooting 4″ groups at 50 yards but now its under half an inch

Ok I got everything cleaned and put back together. I checked the top-hat to barrel alignment and it is perfect. I gave it some shots to settle back in, then shot a few groups and got the same bad results. I shot a few over the chrony and they are consistant. I will shoot some more before I do anything else and if accuracy does not improve I’ll try cleaning the barrel again. If that does not work I will have to wait until I get more pellets to test. I am starting to think that my barrel just does not like the JSBs.
