Q:

Help me pick a gun, my mind is melting

Im having a really really hard time picking a gun, so i decided to make an account and bug u guys about it until u make me feel better about a choice that you may or may not have any affect on.

So here’s the delemona and im sure you’ve all heard it so many times before. Im looking to mostly hunt, but sometimes plink. Looking at airguns because of stupid gun laws under 100 yards u need permission, serously who wants to ask permission? Ok i did it anyway, they said no, was 280ft away, 20 short of not having to ask….

anyways enough backstory i guess, so im almost 30 years old, pretty big guy, looking to shoot some squirrels, rabbits, and maybe eventually try some bigger stuff like coons or fox’s if i ever get lucky enough to spot some but thats fairly unlikely.

So back to where was i at, yes, i wanted to know the best gun for me, so far im looking at the benji maurder, and snythetic maurder, is there a difference or are they both the same besides weight? Then i was also looking at the condors and talons, i see on some of the sales sites, that the talons are actually more popluar than the condors, why is that? If i went air force guns whats the best setup? I heard some people are prefering the regular condor over the SS versions? see this is where it gets so complicated to me, it looks like the regular condor does more fps, but i don’t understand why, ive also read a confusing post that said to get the regular condor if u like quiet guns, see my mind is blown here. Then i read somewhere that the power dial on the airforce guns is useless? Then there are all the mods, of which i know zero about, and what the best setup would be ect. So i really want to know which condor and setup is actually the best, because that alone is making this so hard when i can’t even narrow down a gun from each manufactor.

My mind is really really tired and confused, its lots of money, and i want to make the right choice, but i also want to go shoot some things, so thats why im here, help me shoot some things, help me make the right choice.

yah both the shipping box and the benjamin box have no dents or anything, must have been dropped just perfectly or some really horrible quality control somewhere. The place i was going to hunt basically fell out anyway…..hate to do it but i think im just going to return all this shit, just kinda pissed. This gun is a bit bulkier than i thought it was going to be, it feels like a 12 gauge shotgun, and the butt of the stock is shorter with a weird curve to it so the point hits me in the shoulder more than anything. Have a feeling im just going to get in trouble trying to shoot it around the house ontop of it.

The free scope that came with it looks pretty awesome tho, its very impressive looking. I think its bigger than any of my centerfire scopes, mil dot with green or red illumination. but yah at this point i think id rather just drive the dam 30 minutes to the public lands and hunt with one of my rimfire rifles and save the $800 for my next project. I wanted this to be my new toy but dam this broke stock just killed it for me, its like a weird reality check like was i really going to pay that much for this? i dunno i just have a bad case of sour grapes at the moment don’t mind me

That sucks!! Return, or have them send you a new stock!!! I’d try for a new stock, and some kind of refund! :angrymob:

O wow

god damit my marauder arrived with the stock basically broke in half behind the trigger. This wood looks and feels more like laminated wood……wtf :angrymob:

you fill it yourself after 15 years , with your own compressor
with inspection and good handling as was said, the bottles are good for much longer, they use them much longer overseas ,
when your topping off a bottle it receives much less stress that complete fills also , my bottle has not been below 1900 to 2100 since the first fill , and i dont fill to 4500 all the time , i have scuba shops closer than the place i get 4500 fills, so when i take it to scuba shop it gets 3300 to 3500 or so .

i think those shot counts were for 177 and 22 rifles

I’m not sure! It may very well be factory equipped with a de-pinger. If so, I’m glad they did. Both of my M-Rods are 4 years old and still going strong.

to the guy who said your tank should last longer than 15 years , nobody will do the hydro test after 15 on them for the carbon tanks, so they are basically throw away china stuff at that point. u can fill them yourself, but meh.

for the depinger, doesn’t the new marauder come with a depinger?

Wow! Posted that info twice! Sorry, had a brain fart!

You should also make yourself a de-pinger! Tons of you tube videos on how to do it!

The HDD will also quiet the gun down a little ( not that the M-Rod needs quieting)! To take it even further, make yourself a de-pinger. Tons of videos on you tube on how to do it.

quote BigBobTheHunter:

starting to lean back towards the pump now it looks like ill only get 6 or 7 fills from a scuba tank, i didn’t realize it was that low and this .25 cal will only get 2 clips off per fill apparently

You should look into the “hammer de-bounce” device (HDD)! You can get it from Airguns of Arizona for about $40.
My .22 M-Rod went from 40 shots per fill (4clips) to 60 shots per fill (6 clips) and my .25 went from 20 shots per fill to almost 40.
It’s kind of a pain in the ass to install but well worth it!
Check it out!

The number of refills depends on what size your main tank is, when you refill your gun and how much air to fill… my 97 cu ft 4500 psi tank refills my condor 15 times… Something else you have to look at is, if you don’t get a shoebox or fill station, can your local dive shop fill your tank to capacity? I’d look into that before looking into tanks anyway. Take care of your tanks, and they will last longer than 15 years… If you’re not ready to invest (which is fine, my initial investment just for air stuff was for 1 shoebox freedom 8, 1 shop compressor, and a Great White tank= $$$$$$$$$$), save up until you do. No sense half-assing a set up. I’m not saying you can’t buy good used stuff- just saying do your research and put together a good kit… :2cents: If you’re not ready, thats cool too- hang out here until you are!! You’ll get tired of pumping, that’s just a fact!

not sure how that guy in that thread is getting 30 – 50 refills, my calculators must be broke or his

You have some great information in the post above to go by, if you will read on this and allot of other forums , people all do about the same thing for the most part , get a pump then get tired of pumping and get set up with a bottle of some kind .

you are allot like me in that you try to do things for yourself to save a dollar, i read allot before i bought my condor, and saw that people would go from the pump to a scuba tank to the scba tank.this might take a while but they do it.

I bought the condor and had it before i could fill it , i was searching for a 80 cu ft scba tank for the best price i could find, because i knew that if i bought a pump that i would be upgrading to a acuba, and if i bought a scuba that i would upgrade to a scba,

so while i looked for a scba ,i rented a scuba tank to fill my gun for a couple of months, because i saw that people would tire of there scuba tank not lasting very long for filling and go to the scba for more fills.
with the 25 marauder you will most likely be filling to 2700 to 3000 , your scuba tank holds at the most 3300 , so you will be filling it when it gets down to 2100 or so.

I didnt want to spend the money either, but i didn’t want to waste any on the other hand, so i spent 300 bucks for a 80 cu ft scba tank right off the bat, which is a great deal then or now, that is a 600 $ tank if you cant find a good deal, and like was said above ,when it cant be certified by age i will be filling it my self,

I grew up pumping air rifles, and i dreamed of having a pcp since i was a kid, took along time to have the interest come back to buy one, but one thing i knew for sure was i was not going to be pumping it up.

i guess you found these guys.

isn’t that shoebox thing, just a handpump put into a fancy metal box, thats powered by phnematics/ air compressor? ive seen lots of video’s of people building very simple motor/wheel systems for $100 or less, i actually know where to find the motors for free just not sure if they could handle the torque needed.

anyways think im going the handpump route, hauling the tank to a scuba shop every 7 fills seems like more work than pumping will be plus its gunna cost money over the long run. I started thinking about the moisture issue while watching a video of a guy fixing a leaky tank on his marauder, the idea i came up with is putting silicone grease inside the air tank, aka, if any moisture gets in there the silicone will protect it from corrosion.

not sure why the hose on this hill pump is so short tho, someone tell them to keep that shit and drop the price $20. the air venturi is only 2 foot, seen a metal braided one on amazon but i kinda like the idea of the micro bore.

can anyone confirm that you actually save on the number of pumps by switching to the micro bore ones and how many? to me, it would seem like 1 pump and any hose would be filled, and after that your just building pressure till the valve on the gun opens, but maybe im missing something
