Q:

Help me pick a gun, my mind is melting

Im having a really really hard time picking a gun, so i decided to make an account and bug u guys about it until u make me feel better about a choice that you may or may not have any affect on.

So here’s the delemona and im sure you’ve all heard it so many times before. Im looking to mostly hunt, but sometimes plink. Looking at airguns because of stupid gun laws under 100 yards u need permission, serously who wants to ask permission? Ok i did it anyway, they said no, was 280ft away, 20 short of not having to ask….

anyways enough backstory i guess, so im almost 30 years old, pretty big guy, looking to shoot some squirrels, rabbits, and maybe eventually try some bigger stuff like coons or fox’s if i ever get lucky enough to spot some but thats fairly unlikely.

So back to where was i at, yes, i wanted to know the best gun for me, so far im looking at the benji maurder, and snythetic maurder, is there a difference or are they both the same besides weight? Then i was also looking at the condors and talons, i see on some of the sales sites, that the talons are actually more popluar than the condors, why is that? If i went air force guns whats the best setup? I heard some people are prefering the regular condor over the SS versions? see this is where it gets so complicated to me, it looks like the regular condor does more fps, but i don’t understand why, ive also read a confusing post that said to get the regular condor if u like quiet guns, see my mind is blown here. Then i read somewhere that the power dial on the airforce guns is useless? Then there are all the mods, of which i know zero about, and what the best setup would be ect. So i really want to know which condor and setup is actually the best, because that alone is making this so hard when i can’t even narrow down a gun from each manufactor.

My mind is really really tired and confused, its lots of money, and i want to make the right choice, but i also want to go shoot some things, so thats why im here, help me shoot some things, help me make the right choice.

huum, well you need to find out which valve is on your scuba tank,, most likely a scuba k valve.

so you need to go from scuba k to quick connect to fit the maurader.
here it is for 30 bucks, but would you trust it, i don’t know
high pressure air stuff is usually pricey for a reason

other ways to get the job done

allot say they wish they had at least a 36” hose.

just scored a used scuba tank thats been hydro and visual tested for $100, thats about $50 cheaper than i thought it was going to be. So now i just need to make the adapter for a k valve

looking for something along the lines of this but not sure the fittings are the same

yah it was the marauder, i just couldn’t justify spending that much more for the condor. Im going to have a complete setup for around $650, which is cheaper than just the condor, u add all the extra stuff and its 1k if not more, i just didn’t see what i was really gaining. Condor was louder, needed mods to shoulder right, those 2 things were kinda big to me, a gun should shoulder right from the factory.

I emailed airforce as well, to ask them some questions, been a week and no response, so that definitally played a role as well.

it was a tough decision but then i seen 11% off + a free scope + free pellets, just 2 good to pass up, it really was a no brainer. Down the road i plan to make my own stock to lighten it up, i have a rifle with some nice wood carvings on it that im going to try to mimic a bit in the process.

The only bad thing about where i bought it from was the instant chat, i kept asking them about what i needed to setup for scuba tank, and they kept trying to push the hill pumps on me, i mean, so much so that i was getting annoyed and frustrated, they just kept changing the subject, i almost wonder if it was a bot/automated reply.

i want to build my own scuba adaptor, i seen one youtube video where a guy did it for $50, but it was for a sbca tank 4500psi or something, so a bit different. anyone have any idea what i would need to hookup to a kvalve, from the hardware store?

Yaw realize he said he bought already.

Didnt say what. But from getting the extra clip it must be the maurader

Didn’t know if you had seen this here on the forum. This is with a .22. http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30860

I’ve had a disco in .22 and a mrod gen. 1 in .25 and now have a . 25 condor with a 24″ barrel and my power wheel does work. The condor is the best airgun I have had so far , I have the TT adjustable tophat , shroud and a heavy hammer spring and the gun shoots the eunjin 43.2 grain pellets with plenty of power to kill a coyote or you can go with Jerrys slugs and have a lot more power. When I am plinking with benji domes I get around 50-60 shots. I have it set for squirrels right now and it shoots the polymags like a laser.I am just more satisfied with the condor than with the mrod.Just my opinion.

holly crap got a deal i couldn’t pass up which made the decision for me. I got 11% off, free 2 day shipping, a free scope, scope mounts, extra clip, 4 tins of pellets, which ended up being $529. When i first seen that scope bundle i didn’t even bother looking at the price, but i looked a little closer at the deals again, the scope was basically free, just had to buy the mounts basically. Obviously its not going to be a great scope, but good enough to get me out in the field hunting squirrels for now, enough to make me hit that buy button. the deal came with a tin of pellets, and what made the deal sweeter is the buy 3 get 1 tin free still counted it so i only had to buy 2 tins, so i got a free tin or 2 depending on how u look at it lol….seriously thats just way too good to pass up. And it was such a hard decision, i told myself, if its this hard, then there really isn’t enough swaying me the other direction, so either one should be good enough, but this deal still has me in awe :11:

I’am anything from an expert regarding airguns , I have a TalonSS .22cal. which I have switched out to a .25 cal. TalonSS . For me my shooting range is from 10 to generally 40 yards which makes me very lucky and my power setting is on ten because I only shoot three different pellet sizes with .25 cal. . From 1 to 20 yds. I shoot either EUGNJIN 35.8 gr. or EUGNJIN 43.2 gr. pellets which are extremely deadly to all critters up to coyotes . I shoot H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 28.40gr. out to 40 yards for crows , turkeys , and what ever critters that size , and at that range every thing I shoot takes the big Dirt NAP , forever . I have never had to shoot at anything over 40 yards which more than likely makes me blessed in more ways than one . I don’t know how far you will have to shoot and what type of critters you intend to shoot , but in my opinion I would suggest that what ever Air Gun and maker you decide on a .22 caliber maybe your best choice because (1) it is a sturdy size pellet to kill a lot of different size critters and (2) it will give you a lot of different grain choices for different ranges that you may have to shoot at . I’am an old VIETNAM WAR SNIPER and things have most certainly changed from my days to the present with all the new and wonderfull guns and scopes that are now in use , I hope that my input will be of some help and if I’m too far over in my opinion then let someone jump in and correct me , again I’am new to the world of Air Guns .

FROM: The Birdman

Bob, its really easier than all that,

do you want a fixed fps with a rifle to just get tuned to a particular pellett to shoot and put it up ( which can be done with both by the way) Marauder and Condor, but marauder easier i think

or do you want a completely adjustable, ( change calibers at will ,177, 20 ,22,25 , and then there is the cast slugs ) from 10m target rifle (under 12 foot pounds) to 80 foot pounds( this is with polished condor valve) 70 to 100 yard devastator, condor only here

simply as that

Marauder can use some tuning , for best performance

condor has to have tuning for best performance

which one shoots the best out of the box,
if you take the condor and fill it to 3000 psi and shoot light pellets it will shoot terrible out of the box.straight out of the box with full tank (2700 psi) you would need at least the 21 grain pellet to keep velocity down enough to have some accuracy .( this is out of box with no adjustment)
but if you know what your doing somewhat with the condor ,meaning fill to lower pressure and shoot a medium weight pellet at least to keep velocity down
Marauder fill to 2700 and shoot, the marauder doesn’t have the wide adjustability of the condor, so not as much to adjust or deal with
i would think it would be a toss up. (with no adjustment on condor)

do you want something to tinker and tune, or just to shoot.

which ever you choose make sure you really want it, because each will have its issues to deal with, ya know kind of like a women,

eww, did i say that out loud

Then go .25 it’s not like your going to have a problem pumping more often. Some people enjoy the higher shot count others want power. But the .22 condor can be tuned to high power too when you want it to be. But the .25 will always have better takedown capability.

is there a reason people keep picking the .22 condor over the .25? i was thinking .25 would be better for the power

This my friend is the type of question that keeps me up at night..:)

It is so hard to answer. I would go this way if you want to buy American I would always recommend a airforce condor ss in .22.
Every day of the week. I love the barrel from lothar Walthar on these. Only exception is if you want a follow up shot then I would say benjamin marauder.

If you don’t prefer U.S. Made then the field opens up like you wouldn’t believe. I would answer this with my next planned purchase. BSA r10 in .22 super freaking accurate and very reasonable price it will be in my collection next. Then after BSA I would go fx. So many choices with fx one will fit. Then to air arms very reasonable prices with air arms and BSA.

If you have to choose an addiction to have I would rather have a love and passion for beautiful we’ll made work of art like a new pcp. Some people when choosing addictions get shafted.

I too have a condor .22 and an Mrod 25.

Personally? I like the Mrod more because:
Less pumps to fill
repeater
looks like a classic rifle (with wood stock)
I’m pretty sure it’s lighter.

I use my condor for those trips that I plan to sit in one place for a while.

Cannot go wrong with either.

I’ve got both, I’m pretty happy with them! My Gen1 Mrod is a .22, and my Condor SS is a .25. My condor’s down at the moment though- about to get a barrel transplant!! SMOOTH TWIST .25 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry. 😳
