Q:

Help me pick a gun, my mind is melting

Im having a really really hard time picking a gun, so i decided to make an account and bug u guys about it until u make me feel better about a choice that you may or may not have any affect on.

So here’s the delemona and im sure you’ve all heard it so many times before. Im looking to mostly hunt, but sometimes plink. Looking at airguns because of stupid gun laws under 100 yards u need permission, serously who wants to ask permission? Ok i did it anyway, they said no, was 280ft away, 20 short of not having to ask….

anyways enough backstory i guess, so im almost 30 years old, pretty big guy, looking to shoot some squirrels, rabbits, and maybe eventually try some bigger stuff like coons or fox’s if i ever get lucky enough to spot some but thats fairly unlikely.

So back to where was i at, yes, i wanted to know the best gun for me, so far im looking at the benji maurder, and snythetic maurder, is there a difference or are they both the same besides weight? Then i was also looking at the condors and talons, i see on some of the sales sites, that the talons are actually more popluar than the condors, why is that? If i went air force guns whats the best setup? I heard some people are prefering the regular condor over the SS versions? see this is where it gets so complicated to me, it looks like the regular condor does more fps, but i don’t understand why, ive also read a confusing post that said to get the regular condor if u like quiet guns, see my mind is blown here. Then i read somewhere that the power dial on the airforce guns is useless? Then there are all the mods, of which i know zero about, and what the best setup would be ect. So i really want to know which condor and setup is actually the best, because that alone is making this so hard when i can’t even narrow down a gun from each manufactor.

My mind is really really tired and confused, its lots of money, and i want to make the right choice, but i also want to go shoot some things, so thats why im here, help me shoot some things, help me make the right choice.

i’ll probably catch flak for this but oh well..
Just buy an older tank. I’d definitely get a carbon fiber one over a scuba. I bought my old used carbon fiber scba 4,500psi 30min/44cf tank for $70 from ebay. I bought the nice Joe B. fill assy for it for $160 even though I coulda pieced it out and put one together myself for cheaper like your thinking about. All in all I’m in it for $230, but with my Cricket I get a crazy amount of fills, and the Cricket gets filled to much higher pressure than a Marauder. I consider I shoot a good amount, and I don’t have to fill the tank often. I have my own shoebox compressor, but if I didn’t, I wouldn’t mind having to take my tank somewhere to get filled cuz it doesn’t need it that often. If I were to have an 88 cubic foot tank.. I couldn’t imagine how long that would last me.
If you get a 44cf tank like I have, it’ll be just as easy to bring with you as a pump and will last you a while. Just find a used one on ebay. You can find one with a couple years left on it for wayyyy cheaper than retail sites. And when the tank expires down the road, you’ll know if your invested in the hobby enough to buy a compressor like the shoebox and you won’t have to worry about your tank being expired cuz you can fill it yourself. The best purchase I’ve ever made in this hobby so far hasn’t been a cool scope or a bitchin’ euro gun, its the Shoebox and tank!! Now air gunning is pure fun.
I know it hurts to spend the money up front, but once you get set up you’ll be glad you did. Every person who’s gone from pump to tank has ALWAYS said they wish they’d done it sooner.

yah im not paying $300 for a tank tho, id air my gun up by breathing into it before i did that, plus those carbon tanks are the biggest rip off of all, 15 years and its garbage, no way no how i would ever buy one of those.

this works great in the field. and I think it gives about 10 fills to the m-rod.

the tank, i havn’t actually bought it yet, i made the phone call and know i can get one. So technically i don’t know the size, but its from a scuba shop, so im guessing its the typical tank somewhere around 80 cu and again guessing around 3000 psi

I am going to be mostly hunting, i read u can’t always hit the psi you want for each fill, so it seemed like that could become an issue if i want those power shots. i dunno just seems like each way has so many issues disadvantages and advantages. For example when i go to sight my gun in, with a tank, first fill will drain alot out of the tank, but then i go sight it in, but i most likely won’t want to be hauling that tank with me, but a pump i could…i dunno…

Let me give you first hand advice that I hope you listen to-
I’m 5’10 190lbs, 25y/o. I started with the same set up, a .25 Marauder and pump.
Although the pump won’t wear you out if you take your time pumping and do it proper, it takes a lot of the fun out of shooting.
The .25 Mrod only gets 16 shots if you want decent power, I’m assuming you do since you got the .25. Those 16 shots go quickly and your constantly thinking “ok, I have _ shots left until I have to pump.” If all your going to do is hunt, the pump is perfect. If your going to be doing any shooting for fun, AT ALL, get yourself a tank. I know the prices seem ridiculous, but if your serious about shooting and its something you like to do, your going to get a tank.
I bought a tank and realized how much I was missing out on. Now if I have 20 minutes to kill before I have errands to run, I just walk out to the barn and shoot away at the spinners. I used to set up appointments to shoot my Mrod when I was pumping it.
One thing I learned regarding the prices of things in the PCP hobby is you’ll get a decent amount of cash back when the time comes to sell. $1,500 on a gun sounded crazy to me and I thought I’d never spend it. I’ve learned, Yea its $1,500, but if I want to sell and get something different, I’ll get back at least $1,200 in most cases. Especially when buying used you can recoup most of your money.

six or 7 refills? how small is your tank? You’ll get tired of the pumping…

starting to lean back towards the pump now it looks like ill only get 6 or 7 fills from a scuba tank, i didn’t realize it was that low and this .25 cal will only get 2 clips off per fill apparently

do you have a scuba shop/paintball shop nearby they might have all you need

how many fills should i get from a standard scuba tank in an mrod?

Anyways i made a tiny bit of progress, i found the niche, instead of searching for “paintball fill stations” and “pcp scuba adaptors” ect, i found the real market……meet, the scuba tank yoke, or also known as, scuba fill checker

for a low price of only…..$67

only thing missing is a high pressure 3 way and i guess a few fittings to connect that depending, and a hose

So if i go that route, i would still be cheaper than an air venture, but i would have REAL fittings, and a REAL pressure gauge, and id be $40 ish cheaper than that site someone listed. but im conviced i can drop this price even lower, if i buy the yoke and pressure gauge seperate, why am i the first person to do this, surely i can’t be the only one thinking this

i use a ninja 90ci tank similar to the air venture and yes i have noticed if I bleed the line slowly my m-rod lets out some air from the tank. But, If I open the bleeder valve quickly I wont loose any noticeable amount of pressure from my m-rod. I also started with a pump and am 28, 160lbs, and I still pump almost everytime i can but I like having a tank in the field or at the range.

the goal is to save as much money as possible while doing it in the best way. If that one from china was actually reliable (i have no way of knowing), then id probably buy it, if, it wasn’t in china, not going to wait a month to get it as i want to hunt this year.

As for that $140 one, im sure thats some high quality stuff, but there’s no way i can understand how some fittings and hose is worth $140 dollars, i can tell by looking at stuff what it should cost, i should be able to get what i want for under $80, it should really only cost me $60 for all of it, and it should all be decent quality for that money. I could build a chair out of pure copper for $140, so when i see these dinky little parts that are all over hardware stores for 50 cents and the only difference is “high pressure”, i just know, there’s a way to get this stuff cheaper. Its the dam middle men in a niche market, the parts are out there somewhere, just hard to find.

the air venture with the microbore hose looked decent at a somewhat reasonable price, but it was missing the god dam foster fitting, thats an extra $24, and i know a dam foster fitting isn’t $24 god dam dollars…..that shit is what makes me shake my head. it should have been included with the adaptor in the first place.

So i was thinking of getting that air venture then finding that foster fitting elsewhere, think i seen them on amazon for $9, different brand but w/e, the problem tho is i heard there isn’t enough pressure to close the valve on the maurder when u bleed the line, so then the tank on the maurder emptys out…………….and if thats true, id really like to know why it would even be listed next to the marauder on those websites

I have been using the air force scuba fill adapter since i bought the condor in 2009. With no problems.
If you have doubts going cheap. Just get the better products and not worry about it.

he has what you need and is proven here on the tag , its (SCUBA Yoke HOSE ASSEMBLY) 139.00 toward the bottom of the page and it has 2.5′ hose, if you get tired of trying to piece it together inexpensively .

money back return here with double oring design

and they have the hose and fillings also you would need

dont even think abut going with the pump, you will end up with a tank ,

now i started to read up on these k valve adaptors and all the problems people are having with them :angrymob: some leak at bleeder valve, short hoses, some dont’ seat on the kvalve right, some u have to buy an extra foster fitting for, fittings and hoses that arn’t meant for the pressure and burst….my god what another head ache. Now im starting to think maybe that hill pump might be the better way to go, im just so worried about corrosion issues down the road, and how much pumping ill have to do. this shit is way to complicated, or maybe im just getting to old, or maybe the internet is just to big and im letting it think to much for me :4:

went for the .25 cal so i could get the green mountain barrel. Hoping it isn’t too much louder than the .22 would have been, but didn’t want to deal with the issues some people have with those barrels

What caliber did you get.
