Hi I am new. Want to say HI =) and ask for recommendation
Hello everyone
I wanted to say Hi and intro myself.
I own Gamo Varmint Hunter .177 air rifle and Leapers 4-16×50 scope with accushot high mount. I really love the scope and the power of the rifle.
I use it mostly for pest control, small game hunting at 30-50 meters and target practice. My rifle loves Crosman Premier Heavy, JSB Diablo Heavy, Beeman Kodiak extra havies and Predators.
But really want to get into .22 cal pre charged air rifle.
I am new to Air Force guns but have been doing some research and
ready to place an order very soon for Talon SS. (saving up some cash)
I will do more searching here, but if you guys can tell me essential things
that I need to get to make this gun comfortable and easy to use.
My plan is to buy below.
1. Talon SS
2. AirForce Tri Rail
3. Leapers Accushot 4-16×50 scope
4. Accushot 1-pc high mount
5. Bipod….. I am not sure wich one and need some help.
6. Either Hand pump or scuba refill clamp…. again not sure what is better, hand pump or get used scuba tank and use that.
7. …. Any other recomendations?

Very nice. I didn’t know they could hadle more pressure. Any idea what the max pressure it could hold is?
Its pretty standard to do 10% overfills. But if the tank is rated 3000psi + it will safely do 3300-3400.
I bought a brand new tank though. I believe they are made way better than Aluminum tanks in late 70s early 80s.

I ended up getting new Luxfer 80cf 3000psi + scuba tank for pretty good deal.

Also, keep an eye out on Craigslist for a steel 130cf 3442psi scuba tank. I don’t know exactly how many more fills this will get you, but i know it will get you many more than the 80c 3000psi.
welcome check out pyramid they have a special right now you buy any talon they give you a free co2 adapter that will give you a bunch of options jds bottles i would buy used scuba tank you might have to get it teated to get it filled try to buy new if possible i dealt with air hog sold me whay was supposed to be a demo rifle it was 4 years old having sharpshooter going threw it now the gun had all kind of problems he is taking care of it now you can get the leapers you want right now for 81 bucks at pyramid plus the gun and every thing you need and it might fit in your budget 💡
First off, another way to look at filling from a SCUBA tank. It’s a matter of pressures and the way the tank pressure drops as you use air.
If you start out at 3200 (not always a given, the pressure in tanks typically ‘sags’ a couple hundred psi as it cools on the trip home) and fill the gun to 2800 or so (like most of us do) when the gun pressure gets down to the point where the shots start to drop (say 2000 psi) the tank pressure will drop maybe 100 psi for each fill. A couple of fills and it no longer has 2800 psi available to completely fill the gun. But all is not lost, a fill to 2600 (or even less) will still give you several dozen good shots before you hit 2000 in the gun again and have to refill. Eventually you’ll get so low down that ‘filling up’ the gun only gets you a little above 2000 for not many shots.
Starting at 4500 just gives you more full fills before that happens, the tank still holds the same amount of air (80 or so cubic feet).
Another thought, a Crosman Discovery is an outstanding PCP IMO, and costs about $200. Since it fills to 2000 psi (not 3000), when your SCUBA tank is ‘completely dead’ it’s still able to give complete fills to the Discovery. You’ll be able to get several hundred more ‘free’ shots. I’ve got a 44 cubic foot glass fiber tank (also 4500 psi) that I drained down to about 2500 psi with my Talon. Since then it’s filled my Discovery over a dozen more times while my other HPA tank has taken over the Talon filling duty. When I finally drain it down to 1400 or so (short fills on the Discovery) it’s still going to cost me the same $5 to have it refilled. Free shooting (at least air wise), if you don’t count the cost of the gun (modest as it is).
I also believe that pumped guns need to have some ‘bottle air’ fills from time to time to dry them out. Moisture traps just don’t stop all the water. I own a Career 9mm that had rust in the tank, Tim at Mac 1 fixed it for me, it was caught in time. The former owner used a pump in the field, it seems he stored the gun for half a year horizontally, it had a fine line of rust down the bottom of the tube.

I am a paintballer too. I have plenty co2 tanks so its a good back up.
I already bought 3200psi scuba tank used and TSS coming with scuba fill clamp =)
I am ready to shoot. LOL. Order was shipped today and I will see it next Wednesday.
Also contacted Tony at Talon Tunes and ordering custom shroud from him that will also work with 18inch barrel that I will also get as soon as they come back to stock.

When you order a Talon SS, it comes with a free CO2 adaptor. For $25, you can get a paintball tank filled with CO2 that would be good for hundreds of shots, and refills are cheap.

but I have around 700-800 to spend on TSS and upgrades.
And I will not have 500 for CF4500psi tank. I dont shoot too much.
Plus its either i have to pay 180 for hand pump or 60 for clamp and 50-70 for used scuba tank.
I would say for now 3000psi will do and then once i get really hooked and will be shooting like crazy… then it will be time for CF4500psi tank.
I am sure I can find a station in Seattle area that will fill me up to 4500psi.
I’d say then to get a hand pump for now…. and save for a CF tank. Then you’ll always have the pump. I have a few PCP guns and fill the majority of them with a pump. Yes, a tank comes in handy when filling a tank for the first time, but after that, most are topped off easily enough with a hand pump.
I understand the budget thing… and I understand that you’ll want to shoot NOW and not pump… but until you get a gun that has a much, much lower fill preference, a regular scuba tank will be near useless.
