Q:

How the mighty have fallen

First it wasn’t that far back that everybody was raging about the Hawke scopes and how well they compared to higher end scopes and now it seems every couple days you see a new post with someone complaining about the quality. I personally bought 2 Hawkes about 6 months ago and wasn’t thrilled with them so traded/sold them off. Now don’t get me wrong theres some older ones that function and perform just fine but the stuff being sold lately is sub par and it makes you wonder how much longer they’ll be offering their lifetime warranty. It seems that as people buy them or buy them second hand and send them in for issues the previous owners just dealt with Hawke will lose their ass in replacements. Notice Ted has started to feature another brand of scope with no comment as to why he’s been making the switch. :confusedn:
Second I noticed the amount of complaints about leak issues with the new batches of FX Bobcats right after receiving them and the the common response to these ads is “send it back to AOA they’ll fix it” well why the hell would anybody want to ship back to the same shop who supposedly inspected and shot every Bobcat and signed off on it as being 100%. Is there a reason these can’t be fixed by the user (oring) or it a QC issue that FX/AOA doesn’t want broadcasted? :confusedn:
I know, I know none of you guys give a shit about FX and to be honest neither do I but for how much longer are Bobcat users going to accept this and remain satisfied with FX/AOA QC? :angrymob: Okay y’all are free to rip my thoughts to shreds have at it.

PS Ville its 2AM local time, I fear I may have been infected with the evil virus! I awoke in a sweat having been startled by alarming images. Their was this Bell Hop in a Alice in Wonderland hostel. He said he had something I had to see. Among his many talents he was an award winning breeder and scholar on Aphids, cracked walnut with one hand, and made a handsome income doing it, I might add. Now the disturbing part, he insisted I view his pecker, upon which he had written, RIDETOEAT, with a red sharpie. Do you think he was just bragging? Right on Larry – high fever is the best trip ever ! BTW – why is it these evil viruses originate from China ? Conspiracy ? Government ? Scam ??

Ok, so all the scope brands suck. I was saving for ET6245FG bushy but not after sir said it was hard to get returned. I was looking at hawke, but I’ve decided to try ffp next and they don’t have one and told me they ain’t even thinking bout making one. I love the horus reticles, but only horus makes a scope I can afford and everyone says they don’t track well. So vortex? I’ve heard bad things around the tag about them to. Falcon? Where does a guy with 8-900 bucks go?

Right on OG. Also, Bushnell scopes are serviceable? That’s really sounds out of touch on scopes in general. They have the worst customer service I have ever encountered on any of the brands I own and I own about 35 scopes. The next Bushnell Elite that breaks on me is going in the trash. It’s not worth the battle. 😡

My Hawke 4026 scopes work very well for me but: WTF do I know! I have looked at the $2000 high end scopes; they don’t have a reticle with 8 mil dots hold over like my Hawkes do.

I need the 8 mil dots to work with Chairgun before I have to start reducing the magnification for longer shots. Sorry but; a clearer scope that doesn’t have 8 mill dots won’t work for me!

I don’t do clicks on the elevation knob, if I did, I know that I would soon forget where I was and I would quickly become all fucked up!

We are talking about a scope for an airgun, not a 1500 yard sniper gun!

The Hawke 4026 teamed with Chairgun has allowed me to head shoot ground squirrels out to 126 yards and I also managed to head shoot a dove at 126 yards with the Hawke on my first shot. I wouldn’t have been able to do that with the $2000 scopes without using clicks.

I LIKE to do head shots!

The majority of the shooters at the AOA shoot used the Hawke 4026 and a lot of guys, if not the majority, in Europe use it for the 100 yard indoor bench rest shoots.

I’m a 61 year old oldgoat that wears progressive bifocals. I have no problems sighting with the Hawke scopes until it gets to dark for me to walk around without a flashlight.

For me, the Hawke 4026 with Chairgun works great out to 140 yards with my 25 cal R3 long. Past 140 yards, I need to reduce the magnification, check my range cards that are taped to the gun and shoot.

Last fall, we used a 4026 on my modified FX Boss/bullpup to hit a target at 288 yards. I had to turn the Hawke down to 6.5 and my Iphone Chairgun app showed the needed hold over. There was a slight wind that was changing directions. There were 5-6 people that tried the shot and the 30 shot, 288 yard group measured around 5” tall and 12” long.

I could be wrong but: I don’t think that the $2000 scopes would have done any better.

Yes, the Hawkes are indeed the number one scope at the extreem bench rest in AZ. Why? Because AOA is the dealer and puts the event on. No where else in the world is the hawk the number one scope on the line at top matches. Especially not in Europe where good glass rules.

And to say it is almost as good as a Lupy, give me a break. Lupy is the biggest rip off in the optics world. Trurly mediocer glass at a VERY Premium price. And they don’t even use their own glass. It is an american assembled, Japanese glassed scope. Lupy’s are one of the bigest advertizing scams ever pulled of on the American Shooter. 👿

KM…what’s your suggestion for a scope that can focus down to 10yds….with say a 24-32 max magnification for less than $500?

Sorry Btango, I really don’t pay attention to lower quality scopes very much these days. I do know that Bushy makes very serviceable scopes and at a VERY good price.
I’m kinda in the German thought pattern on optics. A Great scope on a fairly good rifle will serve better than a Great Gun with a fairly good scope. Much less a less than a good scope.

I don’t care how good a gun is, or how good a shot a shooter is. If he can’t see the prey, it is all useless to him.
If I can’t afford the glass for a gun, I don’t buy the gun. I’ve been on too many high dollar hunts, and seen too many heart broken hunters due to equipment failure. And nine times out of ten, the scope was the piece of equipment that ruined a hunt of a lifetime for someone.

Yes, I know we aren’t talking hunt of a lifetime with our ag’s, But it is what you learn in life that tends to guide your actions and habits. 😉
This is just my way. I don’t think for a minute every one should have my mind set. It’s just me. 😆

But I would bet that our European members here feel simarly. 😉

I have never been able to have one of your fine glass scopes to spend time with so I can not elaborate as you can on how nice they are. But with that said Luppy might be crappy scopes and it stands to reason when I had to take my Hawke over 20X before the Luppy could shine. Just adds value to our Hawkes when they can do it at 20% of the cost of the big boys. No body is claiming they are the best, or can kick a S & B butt or anything, just pretty darn good for the money. I still can’t find anything with the features set without sending a lot lot lot more.

quote synopsys:

Even Daystate, Styer, AA, FWB have their problems. Shit the ENTIRE first production group of AA’s highest end rifle (their FT rifle) had regulators that were ABSOLUTE SHIT and ended up not working at all… AFAIK they did not replace them either. AF’s first Condor valve was totally FUCKED.

The single trigger screw R3’s (middle batch) didn’t have any issues (the M’s and the 30’s have had the issues).

The Crickets have issues too. :butkick: Mine shifts POI with each mag, kinda negates a multishot don’t it. And in 177 it’s not as accurate as my Ed or USFT, which in turns makes it the shittiest rifle I own.

So funny to watch people ignore issues with their ‘favorite’ rifle in order to put down other manufacturers…

You’d be hard pressed to find a single manufacturer that hasn’t had issues. If this shit was easy everyone would be doing it. :angrymob:

Right! Every brand has issues but most of them have customer service and available spare parts. Also – some EG problems are unacceptable for a high-end,high-price gun. Like the out of center machined parts.
R3 with single trigger screw didn’t have any problems you say?? Please – i had two of those and nothing but.

Cricket is far from flawless- no AG is but they have customer service and available spare parts. Your Bug has an issue with changing POI? I had two EdGuns with that problem, among far bigger issues. My Cricket .25 is very accurate and the only issue with it has been those OEM o-rings which Kalibrgun was willing to send me two complete sets as a replacement. It would’ve taken max three days to get them. Didn’t want a set of the same crappy rings again so i went for proper rings thru Ernest.
It will take three days, minimum, to even get an answer to your e-mails to EdGun. Oftentimes you get no answer at all.
I like my WST to a point i’ve ordered a Compact to keep it company. I’m done with EdGun.

That is my experience over these two brands and not an invitation to a fight. I don’t care what brand of AG i own as long as it’s a good one and serves me well. Neither of the EdGuns did, the Cricket does. If i just got lucky with this particular rifle remains to be seen when the .177 arrives.

Well crap, you left coasters are always showing up us flyover county guys !! 😀 I am actually quite happy with mine other than weight and damn I hate a scope that is approaching 2 lbs. especially on a small gun. I about lost my mind trying to pick the right thing for this new cricket compact coming in TOMORROW !!!!! I had to take a break and ease the soul back in a little before i overloaded and locked up the whole internet.

I read every opinion of scopes I come across and I think a lot of the negativity of the Hawkes is from people that buy or judge based on the $200 versions and then complain, well $200 scopes always suck compared to $500 scopes in my experience but i am happy to say that my $500 Hawke does not suck next to a $2400 leupold. My 6-24×56 Hawkes optics hold their own against $2400 leupolds LRT’s last week in side by side tests, and here is the caveat ” up to a maximum of 20X on a cloudy day ” after that the Luppy blew it away on clarity and brightness, but and this is a big but !!, It is almost $2000 more money. When it is not overcast my 24X still looks good, it just wants light like all scopes. I buy them for 20x and under and only buy the 56mm obj version Sidewinders and they are a great value. The best scopes no, not likely. I to have a 4-16×40 Hawke and it is a shit scope compared to my Big Hawkes. I think most of the na sayers have not tried the best of the Hawkes. My son is a very picky Army Sniper retired and he has nothing bad to say about these Hawke scopes considering the $459 price point. Who makes a better scope with similar features like 6-20 range for $459… Tell me Who ?? I could use a couple right now.

Hey Doug,

I can tell you that I found a better scope (value) than yours. Its a sidewinder 30 either 6x-24-56mm or a 8x-32-56mm for $283.00. (Optic Planet Year End Sale). I dont shoot it at more than 20x-24x magnification so the resolution and light is very acceptable
Both by far are not the best scope on the market, but are the best scope for a measly under 300.00 dollars.

Absolutely. The Hawke Varmint line is to Hawke Sidewinder’s what the Vortex Crossfire I and IIs are to Vortex Vipers. One has little to do with the other – thankfully…
