Q:

How the mighty have fallen

First it wasn’t that far back that everybody was raging about the Hawke scopes and how well they compared to higher end scopes and now it seems every couple days you see a new post with someone complaining about the quality. I personally bought 2 Hawkes about 6 months ago and wasn’t thrilled with them so traded/sold them off. Now don’t get me wrong theres some older ones that function and perform just fine but the stuff being sold lately is sub par and it makes you wonder how much longer they’ll be offering their lifetime warranty. It seems that as people buy them or buy them second hand and send them in for issues the previous owners just dealt with Hawke will lose their ass in replacements. Notice Ted has started to feature another brand of scope with no comment as to why he’s been making the switch. :confusedn:
Second I noticed the amount of complaints about leak issues with the new batches of FX Bobcats right after receiving them and the the common response to these ads is “send it back to AOA they’ll fix it” well why the hell would anybody want to ship back to the same shop who supposedly inspected and shot every Bobcat and signed off on it as being 100%. Is there a reason these can’t be fixed by the user (oring) or it a QC issue that FX/AOA doesn’t want broadcasted? :confusedn:
I know, I know none of you guys give a shit about FX and to be honest neither do I but for how much longer are Bobcat users going to accept this and remain satisfied with FX/AOA QC? :angrymob: Okay y’all are free to rip my thoughts to shreds have at it.

Here is a good thread on scope “opinions” from other folks that own many brands like me. There is a reason about 70% of the air gunners use Hawke Sidewinders at the Extreme Benchrest competition each year on their $2-4k airguns. They are designed for higher-end airgun use at a reasonable price and airgun distances and have the software to boot. They are the best bang for the buck IMO. My Bushnell’s have needed their warranty more than any other brands I own including the Elites. I have returned two Leupold’s with problems but on newer ones. Besides being more appropriate for airguns, the tests just don’t bear out differences that justify the cost differences for airguns unless you just like to piss money away.

Hawke’s are crap scopes with a good warranty. And brother, your gonna need it!

Styer, has been haveing serious valve issues.
Daystate had burrs in the transfer ports on a “LOT” of the AirWolf’s (MCT) when they first came out.
FX is 900 dollar gun marked up to 1800-2000 by AOA. Which makes people in the US think they have bought a High End Gun. When in fact what they bought was a Grosely Over Priced AG.
The HW 100 had a problem with the reg.’s set too high for accuracy in .177.
And the list goes on and on.
AA has a shot curve that looks like a cliff.
And every one on the other forums keeps putting down the poor o’l Cheap assed AF guns. You know, the ones that just keep on keeping on. Nothing special. They just work. 😆

The AAs need at least one upgrade and maybe two. The barrel band so the barrel cant shift and I put a foster fitting fill port on mine as well. Then they are very cool for the price – especially with the fancy walnut thumbhole stock with the rosewood fore arm piece. It is even nicer than the Minelli on the Air Ranger.

Even Daystate, Styer, AA, FWB have their problems. Shit the ENTIRE first production group of AA’s highest end rifle (their FT rifle) had regulators that were ABSOLUTE SHIT and ended up not working at all… AFAIK they did not replace them either. AF’s first Condor valve was totally FUCKED.

The single trigger screw R3’s (middle batch) didn’t have any issues (the M’s and the 30’s have had the issues).

The Crickets have issues too. :butkick: Mine shifts POI with each mag, kinda negates a multishot don’t it. And in 177 it’s not as accurate as my Ed or USFT, which in turns makes it the shittiest rifle I own.

So funny to watch people ignore issues with their ‘favorite’ rifle in order to put down other manufacturers…

You’d be hard pressed to find a single manufacturer that hasn’t had issues. If this shit was easy everyone would be doing it. :angrymob:

Lose what ? Who? Why? Where? 😯

If only I knew how to type out the “price is right” sound track when they lose. Bamp bamp ba-daaaaaa

I think that´s a good decision! BP market is growing and that fast. Imagine the quality of ie Steyr and the look and feel of the EG – which i think is the best looking BP today. That would be something . Don´t get me wrong – I´d be happy with a Daystate too .

Daystate is supposedly working on a pup or rather bringing a pup back… 😀

quote Sir Ville:

Unfortunately neither Weihrauch , Steyr, Air Arms nor Daystate make these ´Pups. They have proper machinery at hand and the QC is on another level compared to neither Ruskies.
I can understand that being a small company making a handfull of guns / production run there are no same means for QC and all – especially when one is rushed to pump out the product “rather yesterday” but at the same time the handmade label suffers when the QC is lacking. That goes for any product.
I think the best of them EG´s were the R 2.5 & early R3´s. I quess Ed had – and took – his time to assemble, test and control every single gun before it left the shed. That is probably impossible today.
I don´t even want to go in on the parts supply …

iso ain’t what it once was. First company I worked for was iOS, and it was very very good. I’ve worked for an iso company for two years without n every hearing the word and without anyone every mentioning anything or questioning me. There has never been an type of iso audit in my area. I was an internal auditor for another company and I can tell you that shit has gone down hill.

The main issues I have heard on new Hawkes is assembly (even the cloudiness and turrets). That is the price for cheap Chinese child labor. 😛 The lens grinding and coating machines are Japanese origin. The plant manager and management are all Brits.

The KalibrGun CZ factory is ISO9000 certified for what that’s worth. They should be producing pretty good stuff and rectifying any issues very quickly.

quote dman1114:

I just sent my sr pro 6.5×25 back cause the turrets were not clicking and it was cloudy. I Iike the mildot better. They are sending me a new hand picked 6×20 tactical mil dot to replace it with.

The customer service seemed very good I’m happy with my other 6×20 tactical so I fig y not

Looks Ike I picked a bad time to get into this “sport”. I agree that the issues I’ve had with my high end pcp are a bit disappointing. I have worked in both high volume manufacturing and high-end custom work and I can’t say that the issues I’ve read about would be acceptable in either realm. I gotta hope these issues were growing pains and not indicative of a general trend.

Yep! As it is OK for the “best” BP in the world have breeches blowing up at peoples faces and mufflers/shrouds being out of alignment due (probably) either a drunk Machinist or a worn out Lathe – not to mention those valve rods that let go after a couple of tins of pellets.

That ANY of these “high end” rifles have ANY QC related problems is a bad joke.

To date both my Hawkes still work and look as new. Not sure about latest offerings.
As far as FX and Cricket,it’s perfectly acceptable for a $1600-2k gun to leak and have other quality control issues
because they have a “reputable” dealer network that “tests” each gun and have plenty of spare parts on hand for you to ship back for repairs. Just drink the “Yellow” Kool-aid and you will come to believe that statement and all will be right as rain. 🙂
