here’s my new toy Taurus Raging Bull. 44mag 6.5″ ported barrel…one big handgun thats for sure !
i really like the grip of it
and i think it looks real badass
but one thing made me wonder a bit….manual states 240 grain at 1350 fps…about 900 fpe….is it ok to shoot wolf gold which is 1525 fps and 1200 fpe ?
i bought 8 different kinds of ammo to test, most of them in the 750-800 fpe range, and then one at 900, and wolf at 1200 fpe….but then got wondering if thats safe when manual says something differently…but its also a generic manual for all of their revolvers…
not having shot the gun yet, i can only comment of finish and such which on the outside is very good, but inside theres some machining marks in the cylinder and breech of the barrel…normal or not i dont know i cant remeber SW or rugers finish inside.
grip is nice for a large hand, i looks funky, but it fits my hand nicely….even wife’s small hand is ok with it, but she has to cock it with her left hand, as her thumb just cannot reach the hammer.
it comes with a piece of plactic in the cylinder, guy at the store said is was for dryfiring pactice, thought that was a cool idea…SA mode is nice, breaks easy, double action im not real confident with….it seems like theres a slight stop before the hammer falls…but i got a little bit of a problem catching that rest every time…im sure its something i will develop af feel for once i get some range time.
cylinder locks in front and in the back…like ruger does too, but ruger you only have to operate one lever…on the taurus its a 2 hand job to get the cylinder out….pretty easy though once you know how….i was worried a bit when i felt the cylinder could rotate just a bit, but once the gun is cocked the cylinder cannot be moved what so ever, not even the slightest
things i would have changed….well sights are black, i hate that as i cant see the freaking thing on the indoor range…i remembered it having a red front sight…but i remembered wrong i guess…gotta go buy some fiber sights for it
opticsplanet has so far fucked me over…i ordered a bsquare rail from them 1½ week ago, it said in stock….but just yesterday got a mail it was backordered…those fucks…why did they wait so long….i intend to mount my eotech on it…but i guess that will have to wait grrrr
tomorrow its range day….well after lunch at google, and dropping off the civic, as the fix they did to the third gear, have fucked up second gear and made it real notchy…but then it range time…wife wanted to go let some lead fly as well…she has still to try the .22lr glock conversion…im sure she will love it.

Get some good solvent in there and then give a a good shot of break free.
Revolvers do make a mess.
Not sure about the ejector but a good powder solvent cleaning should help. Which 1911 did you get.?

the BAD
the taurus, shot fine…gone home and started to clean it, the ejector rod seems to get stuck , and cylinder has resistance when spinning it…ejector rod ges stuck about half an inch before getting to its resting place in the cylinder….sometimes it moves freely, and the cylinder is spinning freely, but when rod is binding, the cylinder has resistance to spinning.
gonna take it back to the store tomorrow when we do the paper work for the 1911…….
but if anyone has a quick fix i would like to know….i cant even figure out how to take the ejector rod appart

1911 would have to be single stack or the grip gets too fat for the wife to shoot…budget is a max of about 900 bucks…but we still have to see if she can comfortably shoot one
otherwise theres the beretta 82 i think it is, a cute little pistol, or the cz75 compact, both have really nice grips for a smaller hand, 1911 was pretty cool too though

Why would you want a .44 when you can own a .308 in the same legnth and weight? 😀
You guys will love a 1911 and what you can do with they. I have two and they are my best shooting pistols 😀
1911 are great guns and I have several over the years.
You must be very familiar with them to be safe. The single action is not for everybody and can pose a very serious situation when one is in the pipe and it is cocked and locked.
Go rent one before you buy. They are not a gun that new gun users should learn on. Some experince with a double single is usually better.
Judging from the thick cylinder walls, that Taurus .44Mag looks like it is built for hot loads.
Don’t let anyone talk you out of the single stack when it comes to 1911 guns. I would get the Commander, or full length to try rather than the Officer length. For me, the 1911 is far nicer to hold, aim, and shoot in it’s natural single-stack state.
If you want high capacity that you can hold, then the H@K USP is nice. I think the USP was the first handgun to be designed specifically to shoot .40S@W, and that the .40S@W was the first cartridge designed to use HP’s.
Haven’t messed with those powder burning handguns for many years.

im actually started to think about a 44mag carbine, saw one shortly yesterday, was pretty cool i must say…it was a winchester…no clue about which one if theres more than one to choose from
In a 1911 pattern, so many options depending on budget. On the high end I’d look at Kimber. On the low (price) end, I recently got accustomed to a Charles Dailey 1911; IMO a great value, extended beavertail and full ambidexterous controls, skeleton trigger, etc. Costs less than a basic Colt branded version but with many features that would be upgrades on the colt, at less cost than the basic colt branded version. the Kimber is expensive but has the mods and custom gun accuracy to show for it.
In a .44 carbine, also look at the Ruger. 5shot rotary magazine. Friend had one which would hold about a 3″ group at 100 yds. Quite accurate for a pistol caliber carbine and fun/non abusive to shoot.

why a 1911
well glock is as ikon i have wanted, just a must have in a collection.
i also wanted a USP, but once i held i didnt care much for it…just another plastic gun…allready got a glock
taurus is not famous for anything, but the 44mag cartridge is…and the taurus looks and style (and price) appealed to me
1911 is a american ikon, theres so many possibilitys for upgrades and changes, the choises where between a kimber and a springfield
we choose the springfield cause wife liked the grip of it better, and i liked the adjustable sights, the craftmasship(zero wobble in the slide among others), and looks appealed to me….plus the brand has come recommended from many i know…its a 1911 A1 Target in stainless with wooden grips, and adjustable sights.
comes with holster, 2 mags and a nice case
cool thing is the trigger travel is real short, and it fits perfectly to my wifes fingertip pretty much perfect
i really like the weight of it, they had a rental we tried…and it was nice, much easier to control than the glock…especially if they had cleaned it once in a while…cause it misfeed twice out of 50 rounds…so they took it back cleaned it out, gave us a free 50 rnd pack of ammo, and sent os back on the lane…no problems after the cleaning….and since we bought one, the waived range fee, and targets too….so that was 100-2 rounds for free….
took taurus with me to the shop….the cylinder was slightly binding, and the ejector rod was definatly causing problems. they tried hobbes no9 solvent spray, and working the ejector rod, the dried it off with air, lubed it with break free, and it helped but problem persisted, so they recommended to ship it back to taurus for warrenty repair, and demand everything from crane and onwards be replaced, they said i would most likely just get a new revolver…which is nice but sucks as that incurs another 10 day waiting period 🙄 stupid state laws….and another stupid law this one federal, says the shipping to taurus HAS TO BE OVERNIGHT ! (or so they said in the store) overnight !!! thats gonan cost 20% of the revolvers new price !!!
glock has gotten a flashlight on it….sowe can see what goes bump in the night…
its a cheap 30$ model from sportsmanguide with a xenon bulp in it…which has been promtly replaced with a single mode cree R2 LED (11 bucks incl shipping)which is about 3 times as bright, and has 5 times the run time
i had forgotten to take it off when we went shooting….but the cool thing….when i shot fiocchi 9mm +p loads i was shooting alot better groups with it….wife was shooting 9mm too, she did some much much much tighter groups…ok the near 200 rounds of .22lr through it might have gotten her accustomed to the the glock a little more…as predicted she loved shooting the .22lr kit…
