Q:

inconsistant shooting

Just bought a Talon SS. I’m finding that it’ll shoot erratically high and low. Some shots go with a POP ! and others with a PFFFTTT !! with the pellet striking 2 inches lower. The gun prefers Crossman premiers , 14.3 grain over JSP 18 grain pellets. Occasionally I’ll get a good ragged holed 5 shot group but over all, I’m disappointed with the stock gun performance. Being a new gun, is there a break in period where things should improve ? Could there be a problem with the valve not putting out consistent pressures ? It there a “standard aftermarket set up” to get the best out of these guns ? Just to see if it was me, I shot 14 shots into 3/8 of an inch at 21 yards from a bench with my HW100. A common occurance with this particular gun. Pretty sure it wasn’t my shooting. The scope is a Leupold mk 4 with a 50 ft focus adapter. I use this same scope on my HW 100, with Leupold QD mounts. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Don’t ya just love it when a plan comes together! 😉 😀

KnifeMaker

Great!!!

Also, make sure there’s no play between the closed breech and the top hat. That gap will sap power if you don’t fully cock the gun.

Just an update, since polishing and lubing the valve pin/top hat, the gun is shooting as it was expected to do. 5 shots, into a small itty bitty hole. All touching at 21 yards.

Great gun !!

Had a chance to shoot my Talon today after lubing the tophat/valve pin. What a differance ! Like night and day the accuracy everyone posts about IS there. I’m back to really liking this gun.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP AND SUGGESTIONS

Jamie

I think the tophat / valvepin was dragging. Took it out, polished it and lubed it. Didnt have time to shoot any pellets through it before work but dry firing it , the report seems more consistent..

Thanks folks, I’ll keep you all posted .

Make sure your top hat is not loose.

Make sure breech is closed before pulling the trigger 😆

Regards,

Try a tank pressure about 2600-2700 psi? JSB hard to beat! :1:

Have you shot it over a chrony to see what the velocity is doing? I am new to these as well but maybe the hammer is sticking on some shots and does not have the inertia to open the valve completely.
