Q:

Inside the Hummingbird–Now the tuning & issue begins!

I will post all internals and how the bird work and whats need tuning or improvements in this Topic. This BP is going to be a hit, vary well made over the cricket.

Got her today so I will cover several area as I go along tuning and adjusting:

1. the gauge isn’t aligned properly in my book. So if you have a standard cricket gauge socket it will fit the HB, but 1st the AT must be vented
under the trigger guard is where the standard fill hole and use the same fill probe as the cricket, as you can see on the photo near the fill hole is
the bleed screw—-> its a larger heavy duty screw compare to the cricket. After all the air is vented the AT can be unscrew—this AT wall thickness is thick and heavy–so vary unlikely you wont dent the AT in normal use–even dropping the HB. the oring that seals the AT is 3mm X 30mm. the fill
check valve is the same size as the cricket, had to increase the fill rate to my liking vary easy to do.

2. Now I’m having issue with the bolt blowing back when shooting pellets, when it does a lot of air will blow on your cheek and scare the shit out of me the 1st time it happen also the speed will drop about 8 to 12 fps. now it blow back about 2 to 3 time a mag full that not good—have to find this problem. Has to be the locking ball of some type—its like a free floating bolt after its cock if nothing locking it in place it will blow back! If anybody has this problem let me know!!!! 😥

Great work Ernest. Tell us about the reservoir covering, and that neat little bolt handle. I wonder how a tactical equivalent might look.
I think I’ll take my time shooting whenever I can (once I get mine). I like that 9 fps Es. Power seems very good too. Do you think it’s worthwhile to have a seller check a Bird for blow-back (similar to what you had to fix) before shipping? I don’t think I’d mind asking for that check. A seller would not have to ship one with that defect if he just checked for it. Just my view.
I look eagerly await your next installment. Sure has that Pavlovian effect on me. 😉 thank you for keeping us updated on your exploration of this new product.

Sounds good!

Yes its the 18.1g. heres he photo oh my HB.

Here’s a shot count/ES in rapid fire about 1 sec a shot–while my son write down the speed, to test the refresh rate of the regulated chamber.
18.1g
Fill pressure 220B
end pressure 120b
#shots 44
high: 894fps
low: 881
ES: 13fps

Here’s a shout cunt 20 to 25 second between shot:

fill pressure 220B
end pressure 120B
#shots 44
high: 891fps
low :882FPS
ES 9fps

So far no issue or problems—Yes this IS my Favorite BP!

An informative thread indeed. Good work once again Ernest ! :8:

If it’s a 30 fpe gun, I’d hazard a guess those speeds are from the 18 grain Jumbo Heavy. Just being optimistic! :biggrinn:

now it has a tighter ES and speed went up to 895fps.

15.9 or 18.1?

Awny

Nice work, and much appreciated, Ernest. Can hardly wait for your next reports.

I love the way the barrel secured to the action—> no way affected by the AT flexing due to temp and pressure, its not even free floating. up front before the shroud its aligned by a vary tight delrin bushing then you have 2 set screw on both side to secure it in place then 3 more set screw at the rear. when you loosen all 7 set screw you just cant pull it out —> you have to screw in the shroud to act like a jacking bolt for about 1/2″ then pull on the shroud for leverage. yes the barrel was dirty and rough rifling and the choke was tight — so I lap and polish till I like how the pellet feels when push through the barrel, even crown the breech end and polish the smooth bore. now it has a tighter ES and speed went up to 895fps. more info late!

Dave, yes it use the same HSTA and spring. WingMan the OD of the AT is 44.40mm—you can fit the cricket AT inside the HB AT.

After disassembled most of the HB parts, I come to realized its better made and durable then the cricket, the HB cocking lever and linkage are so heavy duty, not like the cricket—if you leave the cocking lever open/not completely lock forward the hammer will brake the cocking plate hook. not the HB—>>> if you dont push the cocking handle all the way forward the hammer will hit the cocking lever in the action and will not open the firing valve. the cocking pin on the hammer is 1/4″ harden pin—see photo.

No barrel OD orings on the transfer port 😀

If anybody can figure it out it’s Ernest…..He has a nack for finding the problems and fixing them….

I didn’t really think I needed another PCP but, I just might need one more. 😀

Well after hours in nearly taken it apart completely, I finally fix the blow back issue, after 10 mags no blow back—feel so much confident putting my cheek on the breech now 😀 .

The problem is just adjustment of the push rod—it was to short to fully aligned the stop pin on the probe to prevent blow back–the rod is threaded on both end so the length can be adjusted.

when in cocking motion the inner sleeve of the probe will unseat the locking pin so the outer probe can travel back to engage shear/insert mag, when closing the probe in full travel the stop pin well engage.

We are not hearing reports about this from Steve, Peter or any of the guys who have bought them yet besides Ernest. Maybe this is isolated.

I fully believe Ernest!!! And hope he figures this out before mine arrives.

Nothing against any of these guys….

but when ur in bussiness to sell guns why on earth would you expose possible flaws In what you sell.

Just wouldn’t make sense and I don’t expect them to report anything negative on it.

Now a third party doing a review I would expect to hear this stuff

When I bought my bobcat .30 cal. They didn’t tell me that the gauge was grossly misaligned and that front part of the action didn’t fit the stock properly.

You gotta put yourself in there Shoes sometimes.

quote Wingman NZ:

The bolt was supposed to blow back as it is a semi auto that failed.. you would think they would put something in place to stop it on the “manual version” though..

Is the air cylinder the same diameter as the Crickets?

+1. This is most probably the reason for that sloppy bolt. I hate these afterthought so-called-solutions. Why the hell let out a Gun – that was supposed to be a semi-auto to start with – as an afterthought manual version ? Wasn´t the reason for these several delays the old “we don´t want to let out the product untill it works to our satisfactory and as intented” ??? Damn fools … :angrymob:

Ernest does it use the same hammer spring adjuster?
Thanks
Dave
