Q:

Leishy safety

Don’t own a leishy but it seems that disengaging the safety may cause an accidental discharge if the safety was partially set.

Seems like a major design flaw. Deal breaker?

How concerned are you guys about this.

Damn it, I wanted one (after a TMS or Vulcan purchase)

There is a regime the mechanism should work in. If the safty button should be pressed fully, it must be pressed fully. I just took what I have right now in my home and tried not to switch on the safety correctly:

Remington R25

PSM

Kalashnikov

It took me just 1 minute. I insure you that I can make any mechanism to work as it shouldn’t do whatever the manufacturer is making to make it foolproof 🙂

I agree.

Small difference though. The Leshiy has two clicks (as per edgun west’s review). The first click might fool the user into thinking that the safety has been engaged properly.

As long as the airgun operator knows this there should be no problem.

Kind regards,

I cannot reset the safety by just pushing back the safety to the right. I have to fold it again to reset the safety. It seems not right. I accidentally fired and hit my basement wall when I pushed the safety off again after resetting the trigger halfway to the right. I should know how to reset the trigger before.

quote Pippo:

And to my understanding (but I could be wrong) the gun fires when you take off the safety once pulled the trigger because the trigger doesn’t reset once released (this is what I understood).

I just showed the misfuntion of the gun, the first ones I got in my hands, if an user doesn’t make all the operation properly. If I have more guns to test I can insure you, I can find much more “ways” to misfuntion for them if I go out of the normal way of use. So, there is nothing to talk about I think.

Did you try doing this with an H&K ?

Nice One Ed. All I can say is that if I don’t take the shot, I decock the gun. End of story

A safety should lead safely to a safe and secure condition and not be cause of concern :biggrinn:

“Fool-proof” probably is the right word.

No offence or provocation but it is quite unusual that on edguns it happens that people has “to learn” and needs a training on how to operate things.

Apparently there is still people around that has “to learn” how to cycle the R3M properly ….

So at the end, instead of pretending people to learn it is way better to make mechanisms foolproof, I never heard about any safety that needs a learning curve…

Sounds like we have some trigger fondlers about. You boys need to stay away from Glocks!

+1

The safety is quirky, and can be dangerous… but I still think Leshiy is super cool, and I really enjoy owning and shooting it!

Never had that problem. If I have to reset the safety I just do it by folding the gun and it’s perfect.

BTW, I never had a reason to reset safety except maybe 2-3 times.

So, how it works on Leshiy. Look at the picture:

The black arrow shows so the working surface of the safty. It works like that:

1. You cock the gun (and the angle to have it cocked is less then 180 degrees, so you can cock it without autmatically put the safty on).

2. The sear goes up by the spring force. The hammer is pushing the sear and the sear end if pushing to the shelf of the trigger. If you pull the trigger the shelf of the trigger, keeping the sear goes back and the sear fall down, releasing the hammer — shot.

3. When the gun is cocked and you push the safty it goes under the sear with that inclined surface and push it a little bit up, make the gap between the trigger shelf and the sear itself. Thus when you push the trigger is has no contact with the sear and can easily move back and forward.

4. When you push the safty pin back to the fire mode, the incline goes out and allow the safty to “fall” down a little bit, back to the shelf of the trigger.

That is how it should work. But, if you don’t push the safety the full way, no matter if you do it while folding the gun or manually it means that the inclinie surface on the safety cannot put the sear up above the trigger shelf and it remains on it. When you pull the trigger in this possition, the trigger shelf goes out of the sear and the sear goes down a little bit, but there is no shot as it still is kept by the safety. But as it goes down a little bit the trigger shelf cannot goes under it again when you release the trigger and trigger is staying half way pushed, the sear is not hold on the trigger shelf.

So, when you put the safety to the fire possition, the sear if realease and since there is not trigger shelf “meeting” it beneath, it goes down — shot.

So, just be sure you push the safty the whole way and no problem.

It is pretty simple; the best safety is to know your gun. I have 1000s of rounds fired and not one AD. I have even tried to get it to do it.

On the Leshiy just like the Vulcan, you could open the gun.

Excellent point. Just open the little carbine and walk around with it, won’t really matter if it’s cocked. That’s actually an excellent safety in itself.

Damn, now it’s between the TMS, Vulcan, and Leshiy.
