Leshiy – my thoughts & photos
Yeah! Arrived! The woodland goblin ‘Leshiy’ landed in my hands quite recently. I’m not able to tell you too many details right now, I’m still too excited. And I need to use it for a while…
I don’t have an extensive range of scopes to try on my Leshiy – so for now I can tell you, that my SWFA 1-4×24 with MilQuad reticle seems to be an awesome choice for general shooting. I’ll later try also Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8×32 (but the reticle is a bit on a thick side) and last week I ordered Hawke Airmax 2-7×32 (superb reticle!) so I should be busy playing with Hawke soon. So far SWFA works great.
I’ve tried two bipods, short Harris and some kind of cheap ebay bipod. Harris is superbly stabile, but the ebay one is more compact and lighter.
And last but not least (for today) – it can be carried inside virtually ANY backpack! It’s small enough to be carried in Tasmanian Tiger ‘Essential’ which is 6 (six!) liters pack. It’s very packable. Love it! Much more soon. Very soon!

How do you like the trigger? Have you done any adjustments to it? I would like a more defined second stage on mine, but have not got around to do anything with it yet.
I use the BoreStore P5 http://borestores.com/order_online.php?cam=product_details&prod_id=5078 while I’m carrying the foldED Leshiy in my Eberlestock s25. Perfect fit for the gun and backpack. I don’t like to store the gun in the foldED position, so I use the AK-3 case http://borestores.com/order_online.php?cam=product_details&prod_id=5139 while it’s in the safe, another perfect fit for the gun.
Firing any PCP AG without a moderator is deafening especially in an in enclosed space.
Not an easy question. But let’s try (same power setting of about 12 fpe for the comparison):
a) Leshiy .22 vs older Lelya .177 with ‘centered’ moderator -> Lelya is simply louder
b) Leshiy .22 vs older Lelya .177 with EXTRA carbon EdGun moderator -> Lelya is considerably more quiet
c) Leshiy .22 vs new Lelya .22 with off-center moderator -> very similar Level*

(*) well, it’s really hard to tell the difference due to different sound characteristic but I think Lelya would attract a bit less attention. The sound of Leshiy is lower, more serious & mature (if I can say that). Actually it’s sexy awesome sound IMHO but it’s immediately associated with some sort of “weapon” being fired. Lelya’s sound is much more airgun-like. Of course all that either indoor or next to wall / building. In a reasonably open field both are virtually silent @ more than 15 yards. Actually hiss of a pellet going throug the air and impact on a target are WAY louder than a shot itself for a bystander. My Theoben SLR @ 12 fpe is MASSIVELY louder.
BTW1 it’s just my speculation but I believe Leshiy with extended 350mm barrel can be considearbly quieter than Lelya at the same power level.
BTW2 I also fired Leshiy in my garage with silencer module removed, just to try it. WOW! I didn’t expect such a blast! My wife went down to the garage to check if I was ok and asked what the hell was that? Yeah, that was loud. One-time try was enough for me, especially indoor.
How loud is it comparing to your lelya?
I use usually packs with separate back compartment, like PDW SHADO or Condor Elite ‘Fail Safe Pack’ so I don’t worry at all. When I use single compartment pack (like the Mystery Ranch 1DAP) I just put Leshiy in a plastic bag first. I’m more worried about th le valve pin damage from other objects (like pen). And that’s why I favor packs with separate compartment – super safe for aleshiy and easier to operate.
Do you store it with a pellet in to prevent dust etc to get in the barrel? (When in the backpack)

Of course I don’t advertise this kind of semi-open carry but it gives you an idea about Leshi-vs-pack size comparison (when folded):
Neither is a speed demon (@ reloading) but if you ask -> for me Lelya is faster to reload but Leshiy is considerably faster to aim & shoot, feels more natural at my shoulder (not a bullpup, that’s probably a reason).
Got it from EU. BTW, I’ve seen some available online (at least yesterday). Also .25 barrels are available @ at least one European dealer.

Nice pics! Both are single shot. How do they compare to one another for ease of loading for a follow up shot? How much force is needed to fold the Leshiy to load a shot?

Ok, some more thoughts. First of all it’s not a bullpup, which is quite good news for couple of reasons. First of all it shoots like a classic air rifle. The pull length is actually just like on any standard non-bullpup gun, so there is no need to squeeze the torso/arms position as it is very often the case with ultra short bullpups. But it is also not as front heavy as standard rifle, so realy easy to aim, hold & shoot off hand. Another consequence is scope selection, which is quite easy – you can slap on Leshiy any scope (of reasonable size). Personally I think 32mm objective is max for my taste on Leshiy, but if you’d like you can even put SWFA 10×42 on it. The key is again pull length, which positions head more or less 4″ from a scope. Usually the eye relief on a scope stays within 3 to 4 inches, so it’s just right. You can always install a scope a bit to front or back and adjust eye relief. On my favorite small bullpup (EdGun Lelya) the head position vs scope is much more restricted and a lot of scopes just don’t work / look good on Lelya. IMHO the Leshiy will be much less scope-picky vs any ultra short bullpup… and still shorter, easier to carry & more mobile (folded). Here’s direct comparison with my Lelya in ‘ready to fire’ position and when folded. BTW, I still like Lelya a lot, very accurate for the size, different handling and THAT SLIDER (very 1911 like).
