Q:

Looking at getting a new scope…

Hey guys I’m trying to find a good scope for around 400 dollars. I HATE front focus parallax adjustment! Hate it! So it must be side focus. Also IR would be good as I shoot rabbits at night.

I was planning on getting the MTC Viper 6-24×56 but I can’t find any reviews on what it’s like. All I hear about is biased opinions on how bushnells are about 1000000 times better (which can’t really be true).

Any help is appreciated

Patrick

If you want,I’ll phone him tomorrow and ask if he will ship to USA. Cant imagine why he wouldn’t 😀

If not, I’ll buy it, send it,then you can pay me back, hows about that?? 😀

Thanks a lot Paul that would work perfectly. 🙂 You all are great people on these forums!

Pablo,

Is there a way I could buy the scope straight from the guy you were recommending and have him ship it to me here in the states? Or would you be willing to send me the scope and then I’ll send you payment for it when it arrives here? It’s just that $400 dollars is a lot to trust with somebody over the internet (no disrespect but it’s too easy to scam people over the internet and I would trust a dealer more).

Again no disrespect!

Patrick

Ok mate , no worries 😀

Hi Pat,
Ok got hold of Antony at http://www.airrifleshop.co.uk/Scopes/MTC.htm
Nice bloke,good to deal with.
The 6-24 x 56 isn’t listed there but he has it. Quoted me about £270 but says he can do a better price if I flutter my eye lids at him!! 😯

Let me know if you want me to order up that badboy for you 😀

To be honest though, if its only an acre you are working, then the 4-16 would be plenty??

Paul.

Ps, just seen AOA prices and Uk prices coming up cheaper, makes a change 🙄

That sounds great Paul. I see no reason to hassle him down to a lower price that would give him less profit when it is already cheaper than what I was planning on paying.

I see your point about the 4-16 being plenty. I always have the gun set to 10x around the house but I would like to have more magnification for long distance shooting.

What would you want to do about shipping? I guess I pay all shipping to you and from you to me? I’ll let you know when to order it but it’ll be soon. 🙂

Thanks again paul!

I’m on 2 acres in the county and my 16 power Weaver V-16 is plenty of power for those longer shots.

Only time I find myself wanting say 20X is when I am shooting at paper targets at longer ranges … say the 10 meter rifle target that little red bullseye on the paper is hard to disinguish at 60+.

For squirrels and pest birds like Starlings at long range 16X is more than enough scope 🙂

Patrick, that big side wheel you talk about is removable, you don’t have to have it; it turns very smoothly, unlike Leapers side wheels…

I live on a 1 acre plot of land and parallax adjustment is vast in short distances, much more so than at long distances. But I’m sure you all know that.

It’s just easier to reach for the side wheel than reaching all the way around and forward every time I need to be shooting.

Pablo, your offer would be VERY helpful! I really appreciate how willing we are to help eachother out here. 🙂 It sounds like ordering anything from AOA would be a BAD choice so I’ll have to take you up on your offer. What’s the cost for them over there?

For hunting I set my scope a 45yds and leave it for most shots. If I have to reach out further I adjust only then.

I think to many people try and adjust it for every shot and it drives them crazy always chasing the dial.

What makes you hate The adjustable front objective so much?

I have 2 Bushnell legends, and a bushnell elite 6500 with side focus. I don’t notice much of a difference with how easy it is to set the parallax, and I shoot them both pretty often. It just makes it a tad bit easier.

Get them easy this side of the pond. If you want I can source you one 🙂

Thanks for the help guys. I will look at getting one of those scopes if the Viper doesn’t work out (I really like all the features of the scope, and it doesn’t have terrible glass). I’m not looking at the biggest Viper because of how ridiculously oversized the side wheel is, and I don’t really need all the extra magnification.

Is there any way to get a MTC Viper inside of the United States?

horus vision has a scope with their wild reticle for that price range…

Pat, do yourself a favor and check out Falcon Optics. I have a 10x one on the BSA and love it. Great glass, great reticle, and built like a brick shit house.
