Q:

Lurker #1

Several days ago I got an e-mail from Lurker #1 asking if I’d like to do breakfast and maybe do some shooting. I didn’t know it but he’s 1 hour away. Well after he said he’d buy I said hell yes, why not. So we met this morning at Bob Evans in Findlay and had a nice chat. Afterwards we headed to my place to punch some paper. We got talking about Hoots vent holes for his Vulcan and decided to do his.

Here’s Lurker #1 taking apart the schroud…..

Taking the baffles out……..

he wanted me to do the drilling, I said hell no it’s your gun you screw it up.

Checking it out after drilling……

it was a great time and we did a lot of shooting. Look out Ernest you may be getting another Vulcan to tune……..

Oakey, I found my metric drill bits and enlarger the vents to 0.074″.
IT’S GETTING QUIETER but don’t tell uncle Hoot:

Dear #1 Leaker…

Don’t tell that fuckin’ Ratso nothing…nothing I’m saying…because he will just copy what you did, then claim it was his idea to begin with!

By the way, if that shroud should rotate on you, just put an O ring around the barrel and push it to the breech. When you tighten your shroud, you will get 1/2 to 3/4 turn under pressure so you can position your shroud where you want it and it will stay there. A simple easy fix if you vent your shroud.

When I vented the sides of my .25 and had my neighbor fire it, I was standing about three feet away at the side and I could feel a blast of air come out those horizontal vents next to the baffle…those holes are 1.5 mm and I was surprised how much air quietly vented out those tiny ports. It does make a difference venting up front, as well as in the back.

Now, on a .22 you don’t have nearly as much air pressure to deal with, and your bottom vents might be all you need…unless you want to make it LDC quiet, then you have a lot of choices on this forum. Whether you need that much quiet depends on how close you are to your neighbors, and how private you want your shooting to stay. I like a LOT of privacy.

I have tried my 16 vents shroud when using my LDC as well…I got one decibel drop in noise level. The “Ping” is the loudest noise I have to contend with at this time. I’m working on that as we speak. I’ll let you know how that works out. Ernest helped out a bit today and my thanks goes out to him!

Lurker, doesn’t seem anybody’s noticed………

I guess it is to common, only uncommon for a Vulcan.

Lead, i expected a comment about me taking aim at the hobby horse but u’all missed that too. :butkick:

That’s where all the fun starts…….

Bring it back Lurker #1, I have a 1″ drill bit we’ll fixer right this time…………Hoot and his 1.5mm bit, we’ll show him…

Now that would be a suck job…..

I did! and I have informed the authorities that your have been within a thousand feet of a playground :butkick:

Lurk did your work on the shroud make any difference in the report?

Conservitively speaking i’d say we got a start on it. We used a drill that was smaller than the 1.5 mm that was mentioned and put 5 in-line holes at 3/4″ spacing through the underside of the rear large chamber. I wear hearing aides that do limit some noise so without calibrated equipment it is hard to tell. Zonk didn’t have his hearing aids on so that was a washout too. But comparing it to Zonks Cricket I’d say the ported cricket was quieter and then Zonk installed donny’s slip on shroud extension on the cricket. Ther was no mistaking that that was very quiet. It didn’t fit my .22 Vulcan and was not as effective. Oh, and Zonk had similarly vented his cricket but with larger holes. I’ll need a shot and a beer for the needed courage to enlarge the holes. Zonk helped align the holes so they are not noticeable between the shroud and AT.

I was impressed by Zonk’s cricket 2 oz. trigger. I’ve worked on my Vulcan trigger and lightened it but haven’t determined if it is safe yet. Hitting the rifle by palm of hand does not cause a problem yet but I’m certain if dropped on the butt it would fire unless the safety is set on.

Now that would be a suck job…..

Why in hell would you got through all that shit when you can just get the Patchworm. Oh yea I want to carry a shop vac around every where I shoot. Maybe that shop vac is used to pull Oak off of Lead???

I thought Michelle was going to stick his wenus in the shop vac.

Don’t the cricket barrels come off pretty easy?

eelect,
Did you miss something in that photo ❓ :suprisedn:

Try this one:

Zonk doesn’t even have a pellet loaded. I guess that’s why it’s quiet and does one holer at 50

   you finally caught on……

Hey Lead where I’m from, a good place to be far from (Detroit) we call it Gang Banging :4: :4:

And if I’m allowed to post in this thread I’ve got to say the shoot out wasn’t fair…

There was a hech of a glare off of Zonk’s head.

When I got home I had to take a nap because Zonk sicked his dogs on me as soon as I stepped of of my car.

Then while rested I knocked down my Vulcan to make the trigger work by breath like Zonk’s Kricket. It didn’t take much. Just disconnected an extra spring I founf in there

:hoot: she seems a tad bit quieter. But it’s hard to tell on a fairly quiet .22.

But donny’s slip on shroud really does the job on Zonk’s Kricket. Just a soft puff out of that thing. I’m going to pay Donny a visit in a month or two.

Spoke with Zonk and he was thrilled to clean the Lead outta Lurkers barrel not once but 5 times. Now I understand why Lead Pecker is so screwed up.
