Made in Germany barrel 50 yard groups
Had a chance to shoot 50 yards indoors with the new Mutant short that came with “Made in Germany” barrel. Disappointed with the grouping, best I could get was 3/4″. Most groups around 1″. Shot JSB 16 grain @ 820 FPS on a front rest and rear bag. SWFA 12×42 scope.

Unacceptable performance for an airgun on this level. My .25 R3M and .22 Cricket carbine are both sub-MOA shooters at 50 yards and I’d expect the shorty to be as well. I really want to like this gun, everything about it is fantastic except for the piece of crap barrel. What good is a gun that can’t hit what you’re aiming at? Even my lowly Prod with Chinese Crosman barrel shoots better than this.
I have a call in to TGAG and am waiting for a replacement barrel coming with the next shipment in a few weeks. Good CS on their end. Hopefully a replacement does the trick otherwise I’ll have to consider sending it back.

My recently replaced German/Korean barrel did groups pretty tight but only with certain pellet lot batches.
Just a word of caution and longevity for those who have gotten a good one is that don’t use hard pellets in your barrel like Crosman’s and H&N’s.
Thery’re hard on the softer German/Korean barrels and it should go longer for yah, the/your mileage will vary with the softer JSB’s. 😉

Is 1.5-2.0 MOA at 100 yards acceptable? To my understanding, the Mutant shorty should be able to do < 1.0 MAO at 100 yards with good barrels.
Well it depends when I shots these group it was in the wind about 8-10 mph. I’ll list the 5 groups I done.1st group 5 shots 1.29” with 4 pellets inside 1”. 2nd group 1.7” but I had three in the same hole and two in the same hole so I think that was me with the cheek placement. 3rd group 1.3” with 4 pellets .86”. 4th group 1.4” with 4 pellets 0.9”. 5th group 1.7” with 4 pellets 1”. It difficult to place all 5 shots with in 1.0 MOA specially the pellet 18g jsb is only going 790 fps and the wind always mess it up. But overall looking at the stats it’s capable of putting head shots on a ground squirrel at 100 yards. If I am given a day with 4-5 mph wind it’s possible. If this gun averages 2” -1.5” or below and not over with 1 MOA once in a while its acceptable to me.
Mine was also hand-picked by Petr, but it didn’t group well enough to be acceptable (http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=32414&start=100). The barrel has been returned to him for replacement, but still waiting…waiting…waiting…and waiting…..

Made in Germany barrel
Gotcha. If I recalled when the Short was first released with these barrels, many raved it too was shooting lights out. After the honeymoon phase, that went downhill real quick. I’d be curious to know if yours will continue to perform. Hopefully it does.
He hand picked it alright.
Picked it up with his hands and had it shipped to you
Luck of the draw..
Any idea of what barrel you have?
Made in Germany barrel. I don’t think they all shoot this well.

I got lucky with mine.. Well peter hand picked mine its doing 1 1/2 groups at 100 yards and averages at or below two inch with tight groups. Some time three pellets are going in the same hole jsb 18 at 790 fps.
Yeah just picked up a pretty heavily used FWB 300 mini I’m gonna rebuild . When I’m done I’ll post some before and after pics . My next PCP will probably be another Bullpup . I like having it in the seat beside me when I’m riding on deer lease
That’s why I am waiting for my gun, (mutant)Yeah Brian and Ernest and Donny all recommend the Mutant,
I am just glad Zonk did not get in on it, He got me into the Crickets 22 and 25 both were sent right to Ernest before I laid a hand on them.
Best money I have spent in this PCP sport,
I just hope I get the barrel I paid for, If not the shit will hit the fan, 100%
Anyone heard anything on the 30cal Cricket?
Springer’s, Ok Joe go to the back of the like,
I remember back in the 80s when I bought my FXB 124 with the blue ribbon scope that there was nothing that could touch the accuracy of that gun.
Times have changed and man was I wrong,

Yeah Brian and Ernest and Donny all recommend the Mutant , and glad they did it’s a blast to shoot. But now I’m done , I bought 2 different AirArms and neither was what I think of as ” accurate ” so they are off my radar also . I’ve had great luck with Kalibrgun so I’ll just hang on to my Carbine for now and mixing a few springers ……Yep I said it out loud. SPRINGERS lol
I was one of the ones on AGN defending the gun when it was being bashed . Hopefully they can fix the situation and get it back to good .
I work in Quality Control at a large factory and when such a important component is sold with such a huge known flaw it sours me on the brand .I know there are dealers who are trying to make this right for buyers who already own one of the ripoff barrels and I sure hope they do . But I’ll shop for a different Bullpup next time I’m in the market
Lmao…
Joe…. no need to sugar coat anything. These “dealers”
Ain’t trying to help no one but themselves…
They knew dam well that these barrels were shit.
First OAKEY and Keyser blew it all up… they couldn’t sell them.
Then they decided to bait and switch and dump the remaining stock.
That is a foolish move.
I told more than one of them not to sell the dam guns with them barrels. On more than one occasion.
And they still sent them out.
It’s a dam shame.
I had a standard that I sold to my shooting buddy, I wish now I would have held on to it .But glad he finally has a top notch gun , mine was purchased used I guess before all the barrel Bullshit started . That’ll do it for me on the Mutant. I simply don’t have enough through away money to take a chance on getting a gun that won’t shoot well .

Wow – just saw these groups from the German barrels the first time looking through these Mutant archives. They do suck for the price of the gun. I think I have a cheapie CO2 gun that will do this well.
The latest barrel (they are calling CZub) I just received is outstanding.
