Q:

Made in Germany barrel 50 yard groups

Had a chance to shoot 50 yards indoors with the new Mutant short that came with “Made in Germany” barrel. Disappointed with the grouping, best I could get was 3/4″. Most groups around 1″. Shot JSB 16 grain @ 820 FPS on a front rest and rear bag. SWFA 12×42 scope.

Unacceptable performance for an airgun on this level. My .25 R3M and .22 Cricket carbine are both sub-MOA shooters at 50 yards and I’d expect the shorty to be as well. I really want to like this gun, everything about it is fantastic except for the piece of crap barrel. What good is a gun that can’t hit what you’re aiming at? Even my lowly Prod with Chinese Crosman barrel shoots better than this.

I have a call in to TGAG and am waiting for a replacement barrel coming with the next shipment in a few weeks. Good CS on their end. Hopefully a replacement does the trick otherwise I’ll have to consider sending it back.

I will keep everyone posted on mine, Hell I will wait another week or so until they get the good barrels installed.
I my self will not accept anything but what I bought, Pretty plan and simple.
Hell my Marauder I just sold could knock out a dime size group at 50 yards, Them Green mountain barrels are pretty dam good for a 600 dollars gun.
There are some pretty good guys on here that really brag on the mutant and how good it feels and shoots with a good barrel,
I am just hopping Joe does me right,
Mike

I sent a request thru the Topgun site about the Mutant status and barrels. The reply was that the CZ barrels are in and are being machined, etc and will be ready next week for both short and standard.

Curious if this batch of CZ barrels is worth it or is something else in the works…i.e. Dman’s barrels??

That’s why I waited so long to order a Mutant, I ordered mine on Feb the 27th about when the Joe/Peter deal went down.
I paid an extra 75 dollars for a CZ barrel,
I was suppose to get my shipping code today, I know Joe is busy, So I am going to cut him a little slack and call tomorrow and see they have a shipping date for me.
I think someone said there are some marks somewhere on the barrel to look for to tell if its a CZ barrel.
So I need to go back through the post and find the marks,
As if I do not have a CZ barrel , Its being sent back,
If someone knows what I need to be looking for on the barrel please post up.
Mike

Should I order a Mutant now or wait till the barrel deal is sorted out?

If now should I go with a CZub barrel from Joe B? He said they would be ready next week or is something better coming down the pipe?

Thanks

So Dman, who is going to replace my Korean barrel and with what? I’d be more than happy to get one of your listone barrels.

Gabe

I am sickened by this. I shoot 1/4 ” sub 1/4″ groups at 50 yards with 4 to 5 mile hour winds

But the barrel is not “standard” length, is that not why the .22 cricket compact got discontinued because of the too expensive barrels or something?

Cricket deals directly with CZ to get there own barrels. They are made specific for the Cricket. I doubt it had anything to do with a barrel being to expensive.

CZ from what i understand does not make barrels for guns produced outside of the Czech…. Its all good if the manufacture is in the check.

That is why Tamaun has to use the CZ200 barrels.

The Whole thing is Bullshit. These guys have really fucked over this gun and company in the USA for What to make a quick Buck??

I am working on this issue. That is all i can say right now.

Cleaning a barrel should not make the gun less accurate. In my opinion the soft JSB lead is filling some imperfections found between the lands and grooves.

The sad thing was yesterday was our fun shoot. I got to meet new people. They shot my Mutant. They all said “I was interested in this gun but I don’t want to deal with the barrel bullshit”. Unscrupulous, greedy, and misinformed dealers have ruined the Mutant brand in the USA. Funny how a Czech Republic dealer sold all their Mutants with CZUB barrels. Guess that €60 upcharge for a CzUB barrel cut into the profit margin.

No bullshit I could have sold you guys Mutants for 1200 with a CZUB barrel and still made money.

that’s true Jamie …

as for the ones in Kuwait we did request him to make test for accuracy before shipping .. results not bad

as for me i own one shorty in 177 out of the box grouping in 50 yards were excellent …i did post a photo for it days ago… i did try to clean it .. it appears that after cleaning it .. it wasn’t good so i keep shooting in it … after let say 4 mags i did notice it start grouping again …. so from that i have notice my barrel like to be dirty !

this is a video for taipan 22 short for my friend has german groupin not bad in 40 yards

it also surprised me in 100 yard …. 12x shot

i’m not saying its good barrel … but it deserve better ones 🙂

Oh no! now I got to worry about, “Don’t settle for some unknown CZ barrel maker either”
a unknown barrel CZ maker, After I paid extra for a CZ barrel , Wow, I think I am getting a headache.
The Vulcan is sure looking good,
What’s the wait for the Listone barrel from Jamie ???
Any one heard how the 30 cal Cricket are coming along ?
Mike

These guys can’t even Machine a barrel to the correct length ….. and you want to trust em with a .30 cricket conversion.

quote the sloth:

MOA isn’t a fixed distance. It’s 1/60th of a degree which works out to be ~1″ at 100 yards. MOA at 50 yards is ~1/2″, sub-MOA just means shooting under MOA. This explains it well

Oooh, of corse it is. It is an angle unit, now I feel stupid 😳 thanks for explaining

Nice shooting, Keyser. The thing that gets my goat about the whole ordeal is that I had to wait for a month to take delivery of a gun that can’t shoot, and now it’ll be another month before I get a replacement barrel, and who knows how that’ll work out. The more I think about it the more I’m tempted to send this $1000 paperweight back and call it a day.
