Q:

Manual multyshot

I am thinking… I am about to make .30 EDgun Matador, first 40 guns will be single shot just to test everything, the valve, regulator, hammer and hammer spring, barrel, pellets etc. If everything goes well I should think about multyshot. To keep it at the same size as R3M is not possible — I will need to make completely new breach, that is expensive since I have no idea about demand for these guns. You should agree with me that is this caliber is quite specific. So, I thought that there is no problem to install the magazine to standard breach of R3M but take off the ling between the bolt and the magazine. So it will look like that:

1. Pull the bolt and open it.
2. Insert the magazine,
3. Close the bolt.
4. Shoot.
5. Pull the bolt back, cocking hammer.
6. Revolve the magazine manually.
7. Close the bolt.
8. Shoot.

It will be something between single shot and multyshot, easy to operate, faster then single shot loading.

What do you, guys, think about it?

I bet that right hand glove comes off for other things too you nasty old goat 😯

On a serious note, as consumers, we all have different needs and preferences. You can beat this topic over and over and there will still be a group of guys who will be disappointed and another group who will get what they want depending which way Ed decides to go. I think the best way to solve it is to create a poll. Not sure if this forum allows such thing. But basically the most voted option wins and gets produced.

Ed,
I am looking forward very much to getting my hands on a .30 Edgun when ever that may be.
I think most who are interested in this caliber are hunters and I know hunting is what drives my interest.
I’d be a happy with a manual indexed multi shot as long as it worked dependably with longevity.
The ability to get off more than one shot without having to singly get a hold of a pellet and manually load it would be of merit .
In this caliber I don’t see the need for short and long versions.
I think the added air capacity and bit of free velocity via longer barrel of the long version would make it preferred 20 to 1 over short versions when buyers have the option of either.
My 2 cents

Pussies and 61 year old oldgoats wear heated gloves. I haven’t done the polar bear swim for a couple of years. Good fun when I was younger.

Don’t even get me started on obama!

HOOT should have took him along when he fled Il!

Where is H 😯 😯 t on all of this. I live in the armpit of the Midwest but H 😯 😯 t lives right in the crotch. 😀

OG, it can get cold in California, not in San Jose but it can get cold here.

I’ve lived in some REALLY cold places in this country, so cold that they would make central IL look like coastal CA. Skied one day when it was -15 ambient temp (not unusual for the area) but there was a 55mph wind blowing, no heated gloves either. I think that is in the neighborhood of -100? Did the polar bear swim each winter, midnight Dec 21st into a hole in the river ice, ambient temp was typically in the negative double digits. No towel until you got back to the house, only a 500 yard run through the snow in only a pair of shorts.

AND now I live in California.

I know, I know, since you live in Illinois you must love Obama… :2: Stereotyping people because of where they live sucks don’t it?

One thing is for sure dude, only pussies use heated gloves.

Acourvil; I live in central Il so; yes, I am out frequently in the rain, cold and snow. On a calm day, the low temps aren’t too bad, when the wind really starts picking up, it can become brutal.

HEY WAIT: I just saw that you live in San Jose and you don’t really have a clue about cold and or snow. I am not talking about going up into the mountains where there is snow but it is still 50 degrees. I am talking 1-2 feet of snow, temps between 0 and 20 degrees. I don’t pay any attention to the wind chill factor, if I did; I wouldn’t go out into it!

You can bet your ass that the glove goes right back on!

I have tried to go to the range and shoot 100 yard groups in 10 degrees +- of zero while trying a lot of different heated/unheated gloves. The trigger feed back is just not the same and the groups suffer.

I shoot from an indoor bench rest to the outside when it is too hot or cold. If it is so wet or cold that I need gloves my $3000 air gun rigs don’t need to go out. 😉

You folks realize if Ed decides to just produce just a multi-shot .30 and starts working on that design work only it may delay the gun….

Is it ever cold or wet enough when you are out that you are wear gloves? How quickly can you load a single pellet with gloves?

Hey; I am not trying to sound like some kind of a snob or elitist but: in my 4 plus years of owning at least one Matador, I have only had one time where I needed a quick follow up shot.

We were shooting at a buddies place and somebody spotted a muskrat swimming across the pond. I didn’t have time for the rangefinder so, the distance was unknown. I guestimated it to be 120 yards. The muskrat was swimming away from us at around a 45 degree angle. I had to do a quick range estimate and start shooting. I shot over on the first shot and under for the next 4 shots before the muskrat reached safety. That little SOB really started swimming like hell when the 25 cal started splashing water up around him! 😆

That ordeal still pisses me off to this day. A mag might have come in handy then but, that is the only time that I ever felt the need for one. I try to range find the longer shots and then use the range cards that I have taped to my stock. If I can get an accurate range, and I do my part, I usually don’t need a quick follow up shot. If I miss, the target either flys off or scurries down its hole.

I have found that spring loaded mags don’t offer comparable accuracy as the same gun does when it has a single shot tray installed.

Ed’s mag, since it is mechanically advanced instead of spring loaded might close up or eliminate the mag/single shot accuracy gap.

I think/hope that I got my order in quick enough to receive one to the first 20 Long Version 30 cals that Ed is going to make.

I frankly don’t give a rat’s ass if it comes with a mag or not. If it comes with a mag, I will make a single shot tray for it. When I get to go out shooting, I shoot a lot of pellets. I have a home made, 56 shot, foam pellet holder mounted on the gun. I don’t use it when I am at the range, only for walking around hunting/plinking.

After 8-10 shots, I don’t want to stop and fumble around trying to reload the mag back up while out in the field.

I am really excited about the 30 Matador. Ed said that he thinks that it will give 30-35 shots at 980 fps. My 30 cal Boss gives 37-40 shots at 870 fps and, after all of my mods and a Altros regulator, it still gives 37-40 shots at 870 fps.

I can’t wait until Ed releases the 30 Matador. I could possibly get banned on the Yellow by posting my findings and laughing at the guys that bought a Boss or Wolverine!

I might have to put my Boss back to stock and sell it before the 30 Matadors come in! 😯

My thoughts exaactly Elme Fudd.. I can see Ed dropping the single shot all together in the not to distant future thats if he hasnt allready… so a single shot tray for the R3M would be a viable option regardless of cal.

That’s my point exactly. Its a single shot gun and the multi-shot is iffy for the .30. That’s why I said there was some misunderstanding going on here. Telling Ed to drop kick the single shot design in Lieu of a multi-shot design that can handle a third party single shot tray is a bit over the top.

quote acourvil:

I think one of the things that folks are missing from Ed’s original question and the manual multishot is that it does not need a single shot tray because it keeps the form of the single shot gun, including the pellet trough. At least that is the way the existing ones have worked, and that is consistent with Ed’s desire not to re-design the breech initially.

quote Urgirlinmyjetta:

I highly doubt that…and my oppinion is based on the fact that Ed has had the matador out for a few years now and it’s not up to now for him to make a multishot version…why would he make a multishot to have to convert back to single shot when you can just buy a regular single shot matador?…plus if he’s just releasing the r3m…why add more to his plate to make a single tray convertion kit for the gun?….doesn’t seem logical to me.

I personally think people like options. For a long time prior to the R3M, there was no multishot option for the Edgun. If you wanted this great bullpup, you had to be satisfied with a single shot. It performed great and nobody cared. I think Ed has finally listened to the market and has offered a multishot. From business standpoint, if Ed wants to lower his inventory cost to just one standard breech, I think it would be the R3M and offer a slide in tray. There’s no way anyone is going to pony up for a brand new breech let alone a whole another matador if they just wanted a tray setup. And for Ed it would cost a fraction to manufacture and inventory a tray vs a single shot breech. If the market dictates anything, it may just lead to him slowly discontinuing a single shot breech in favor of a multishot with an add on single shot tray. For the .30 cal, I really think he should base it off of the R3M breech and provide a tray if an indexing magazine doesn’t work.

I think Rowan has a great concept but instead of flipping open, it would be really cool if it sprang open left or right when pulling back the bolt depending on the shooters preference.

They must be new to the bullpup arena. 😕
