Q:

Manual multyshot

I am thinking… I am about to make .30 EDgun Matador, first 40 guns will be single shot just to test everything, the valve, regulator, hammer and hammer spring, barrel, pellets etc. If everything goes well I should think about multyshot. To keep it at the same size as R3M is not possible — I will need to make completely new breach, that is expensive since I have no idea about demand for these guns. You should agree with me that is this caliber is quite specific. So, I thought that there is no problem to install the magazine to standard breach of R3M but take off the ling between the bolt and the magazine. So it will look like that:

1. Pull the bolt and open it.
2. Insert the magazine,
3. Close the bolt.
4. Shoot.
5. Pull the bolt back, cocking hammer.
6. Revolve the magazine manually.
7. Close the bolt.
8. Shoot.

It will be something between single shot and multyshot, easy to operate, faster then single shot loading.

What do you, guys, think about it?

Elmer,

Thanks for posting. So much for the encouragement by others. I too find that single shot adaptor of interest and Iโ€™m sure others will too. Perhaps once the Eddy multi shot comes out those adaptors will become available for Edguns.

What does that have to do with a multi-shot Matador? A little self-promotion there? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sorry, I have no affiliations with this product. I just saw it mentioned somewhere and thought the concept would be great for a matador since the R3M does not currently have a tray option. Even for Ed’s development of the .30 single shot, a similar type tray would be in high demands. Besides, I don’t think Rowan offers a product for any Edguns.

Lol I was thinking the same thing…his statement was just a generic “hey that’s cool but look at THIS”

Great development news of a .30 Matador. I think those in the market for a .30 caliber model will be hunters targeting much larger game than rabbits and etc especially with 80-100FPE possible. It would be a huge benefit to have quick access to a follow up shot while in the woods so an auto indexing magazine is a must. An optional single shot tray is nice too but should fit in breech like a Daystate tray. This is a great aftermarket tray from Rowan Engineering http://rowanengineering.com/products10.htm.

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Ed,

Any idea of performance on the .30 cal? Joules and meters per second with JSB 44s?

Have no idea, I am wondering myself ๐Ÿ™‚ The pellet weights 3.1 grams (47.84 grain), I expect to speed it up to 280 m/sec (920 fps) at standard length of Matador which gives 121 Joles (82.3 ft-lbf) and about 300 m/sec (980 fps) at long Matador, which give about 139 Joles (102 ft-lbf). What will be in reality — have no idea ๐Ÿ™‚ I expect at least 15-20 shots per fill from standard and about 30-35 from long one.

Ed,

Always look forward to your posts! Can you share some specs on the .30 caliber? Many, including myself are interested in knowing more about this new to be release. Please share with us!

I vote for a single shot.. less to think about and less to loose/go wrong.. if you do decide on a manual multi shot or a auto rotating multishot you should maybe have the provision of removing the mag and fitting a single shot tray.

Hello Ed.

I donโ€™t like magazines and I make a single shot tray for any of my guns that come with a mag. I have a 50 pellet holding piece of foam attached to the gun right in front of the breech. With a manually indexed magazine, I think that I could get a second shot off nearly as fast by using a single shot tray and my pellet holder.

When I got my FX Boss, AOA, didnโ€™t send a mag with the gun so, I had to make a loading tray just to shoot the gun. AOA sent me a magazine BUT; it was a 25 cal and it didnโ€™t work very well trying to load it with 30 cal pellets! I ended up shooting the Boss for 2 weeks with the tray before the correct magazine came in. When the proper magazine finally came in, I did use it for one dayโ€™s worth of shooting and then went back to the tray.

I hope that one of the first 20 Long Version 30 caliber single shots has my name on it!

No, Eduard, i am not with you to forget about it, this is not you, you will succeed in .30 cal as well, just like before.
However as Donny said, i am not in the market for .30 cal, but i am sure that you will succeed.

Thank you guys for your thoughts, I really appreciate it! OK, decided — first 40 guns will be single shot (20 standard length and 20 long ones), then I collect the information from users and make a decision either to go on making it single shot, or to make it multyshot or just forget about it ๐Ÿ™‚

I think single shot will be great. Or auto indexing like R3M. I I wouldn’t want manual indexing magazine.

I have a manual index multishot on my .22 Edgun. If you are in the field, it is far, far better than having to load a single pellet at a time. It may not be an advantage to guys shooting targets from a bench rest, but if you want a 2nd shot quickly, it’s a lot easier to turn the magazine than to get a pellet out and load it. Especially if your hands are cold, or wet, or you are wearing gloves, or are just in a hurry to take another shot. I would much rather have the manual multishot than a pure single shot. I think this is even more true for .30 caliber, since it has greater advantages over smaller calibers for hunting and field shooting than for benchrest.

And honestly, I don’t see a huge advantage of the self-indexing multishot over the manual multishot. At least not anything close to the difference between pure single shot and manual multishot.

Oh, and with the manual multishot you can always load single pellets manually if you want to.
