Mounting the Atlas Bipod to a Matador.
Title pretty much says it all. I’m springing for one of those schnazzy Atlas bipods. It will be holding up the front end of my R3 .25 (video coming soon). I’m getting the $279 model with the quick disconnect Piccatinny clamp.
I recognize that a simple Piccatinny rail (mounted to the forestock) is all I need. However, run a search on any tactical site for “piccatinny rail” and you get smashed with hundreds of options – most of them specialized pieces for various gun models.
I want a small (2-3″), simple rail screwed into the wood of the gun – nothing fancy, but built well. No sense clamping my ultra-expensive bipod to a POS $5 rail.
Please help a guy out! 🙂

Well Ted, We don’t mind you going all fancy, schmancy Holly Wood on us. “BUT” When you Go Full on Holly Wood and start attacking Guns, and protecting the squirrels, It’s ON Brother! 😈 We’ll be watching you just in case your start slipping off your cracker! 😉

Hey Ted! How did you ever attach your sling? You had said that you had a crazy idea for it.
The ADM QD Mount is adjustable as all 1913 rails are simply not the same.
Flip the ADM lever to where you have the most slack, push on the lever so the nut on the opposite side pops out of the fitted hex hole. Turn the nut right or left to adjust the tension and try fitting it on the rail again.
The Bipod fits very snugly onto the BT17. Comparatively, it fits normally to my other picatinny rails; so I blame the BT17 for the snug fit, not the bipod.

I’ve tried to lure the “ping” out in the open by changing velocities but with no luck….. 😉

R3 .25 is a bit louder with a deeper pitch than my .22 standard. But, that is to be expected. The thing is slinging pellets at 52 fpe. I can say this with certainty – the “ping” is not present with this version, so there is no need to install any “depingers”. The R3 .25 is also much quieter than my .25 Marauder, and that is saying something considering it is shooting at + 10fpe.
Long version will be more quiet.
Have you had any chance to compare the dB between your old edgun and the new R3 Long? I have a R3 Long on order (i think it will be a long version, a bit unclear from my dealer).

The mounts are both Burris P.E.P.R. one-piece mounts. I use them to get a couple more inches of forward positioning to accommodate my camera mount. They are a bit heavier than I would like. But, like the Hawke scope, the extra weight does translate to a tough piece of equipment.
The barrel/shroud looks askew as a result of the camera angle. The spacing is the same (between the shroud and air reservoir) for the entire length.

Congrats on the new R-3! I just got done watching your latest vid. Great job! Makes me want to get another one. Best of luck with it. I hope you get some time to show us the dialing in process. CAN’T WAIT for the hunting vids! Starlings be warned. 😆

– Is it just me, – or do I see an uneven gap between airtube and shroud/barrel on the R3. Looks like you have a more narrow gap at the breech end than in the front………..

Is that a hawke 6.5-20×42 On the R3? It looks to be slightly longer than the one on your R2.5

Thanks! I’ll have a look at that….when I finally get my Atlas back. I left it in Arizona after the Extreme Benchrest Event, and it has had some “trouble” finding its way back to me. 🙂 The truth is that I’m expecting my BOSS soon, so I told AoA to just send it with the gun when it arrives. However, FX shipments apparently have had delays, so a couple weeks has turned into……longer. Good thing I have been having so much fun with my R3 to keep myself occupied.
Mike, I’ll get as schmancy as I want. Expect ultra-slim cigarettes and designer jeans in future videos. Oh – and you may have some difficulty understanding me, because Hollywood folks like to talk through their teeth.
