Mounting the Atlas Bipod to a Matador.
Title pretty much says it all. I’m springing for one of those schnazzy Atlas bipods. It will be holding up the front end of my R3 .25 (video coming soon). I’m getting the $279 model with the quick disconnect Piccatinny clamp.
I recognize that a simple Piccatinny rail (mounted to the forestock) is all I need. However, run a search on any tactical site for “piccatinny rail” and you get smashed with hundreds of options – most of them specialized pieces for various gun models.
I want a small (2-3″), simple rail screwed into the wood of the gun – nothing fancy, but built well. No sense clamping my ultra-expensive bipod to a POS $5 rail.
Please help a guy out! 🙂

Okay – got that sucker on there. Used the BT17 rail, and fixed it to the stock using two, 3/4″ swivel studs. I have a crazy idea for a double-hung sling. We’ll see about that….;). For now, it holds firm and didn’t need me to do any work from the inside of the stock ala using machine screws and nuts (which would have looked like crap).
The Bipod fits very snugly onto the BT17. Comparatively, it fits normally to my other picatinny rails; so I blame the BT17 for the snug fit, not the bipod.

That monopod you have on the back. I have never seen one of those on the back of the gun. Looks like a real good idea.

Is it removable for field hunting? I guess it is, but a quick release on that would be the cats meow…

I was looking at attaching a quick release like I have on my bipod in the future. It’s attached with one screw now. The quick release by themselves are expensive 🙁 . I was looking a good one and they run around 😯 bucks. I figure it is ok for now since I do not regularly hunt.
When I shoot prone or off the bench, I really don’t need a gun rest. With my current set-up, I can adjust my sight picture with the bipod and monopod. I can make gross adjustments and fine adjustments with the monopod. The monopod screws up and down and there is even a locking knurled nut to keep it from moving. Overall, it provides a sturdy three-point triangular platform all in one, portable package. The pods are made from aluminum and adds little weight to the gun. I like it and highly recommend it.

They`re nice but,I wouldn`t trade my Marauder Pistol for it which I paid
$301 new for.The pistols more fun and shoots.

Looks like you need a minimum of 2.0″ of picatinny (to make sure you have enough rail on both sides of one of the grooves). The actual clamp on the bipod is 1.5″ long, and just a shade over 2″ if you include the quick-release handle.
Initial thought – this is a very serious piece of machinery. We’ll see if it lives up to the hype tomorrow. ted.

Your gonna love the atlas bipod. So far I have used mine during bench shooting and with the mono pod, I don’t need a gun rest. I can make gross adjustments with the bipod and monopod and fine vertical adjustments with the monopod. It screws up and down. I love the set up. Enjoy your new gun!!

I really like the fact that is only 2.05″, not sure about the shape of the bottom of the rail though…

The bt34 is not flat on the bottom. It’s more concave. The Bt 17 or 14 are flat-bottomed. I have the 34 attached to the butt end of my R3 and the bt17 up front. I used brass screw inserts and button head machine hex screw. So far, everything is rock solid. Here are few pics of my set-up.

Hope this helps 😀 BTW, the atlas bi- and mono- pods are high quality and super adjustable. Check out the video on youtube to get a great idea on thier versatility.
It’s the gumby of Bipods. Plus you can add leg extensions and different feet. My next purchase will be spike foot so I can stake those zombies!!

Maybe a lot – maybe nothing. I’ll know as soon as brown santa pulls up to my door in an hour or two.
And, I’ll snap a few photos, George. From what I’ve seen, a 2″ piece of picatinny would be plenty – even for the quick-release model. And that happens to be the one I bought. Parting with $300 for a bipod?!? I must be out of my damn mind! 😕 😀

Will the Accu-shot BT34 picattiny rail fit the Atlas bipod ?
I mean, is that 2.05″ rail, long enough for the QD with the lever, Atlas bipod ?

That’s a great way to attach the bt17.
The studs (screw part) have plenty of “bite” to keep thing solidly secure.
