Q:

Mutant Test Groups – Different Barrels

Hello Everyone,

I guess I need to spend more time on the Forums. Here is another post that I copied.

I am now retired from the Airgun Retail business and find myself with time for FUN projects.

I was up visiting Peter Plesinger, the former owner of TopGun Airguns up in Phoenix. He had some Taipan .22 Caliber Mutants for sale with different barrels. I decided to see what all the chatter was about regarding the different barrels being used.

The picture shows the results. Here are the conditions:
27 Yards
Slight crossing wind
Rickety bench and rest
Five shot groups and four different target
JSB 18.1 pellets – NOT LUBED

Barrels:
CZ – CZ manufactured barrels
CR – Barrels made in the Czech Republic
?? – Can’t tell if they are German or Korean barrels. Most likely Korean.

The picture is worth more than 1,000 words.
The bottom right hand group for 645 was shot off balance and my right eye being filled with shadows. I will reshoot that one when I have more time.

Click the link to get to the picture.

Have fun at the range…..

Congratulations Steve you have switched fallacies. First you used a straw man now you are attempting to use a red herring to redirect.

So let’s stay on topic. A US quarter is .950″. In the other topic started by you (link provided below ) I provided examples of a 100 yard group shot with my mutant that has an aftermarket barrel. I show three photos and provide a US quarter in order to reference the group size. Since the US quarter is .950″ and MOA at 100 yards is 1.047″ everyone can clearly see that only one group is MOA. In this simple example it is very obvious I never claimed to shoot sub MOA at 100 yards everytime. An experienced shooter can tell when the mistake was his vs the gun. I expect a 1500 dollar airgun to exceed my abilities.

Now I ask again for the physics lesson regarding short guns you offered

First off I am not selling Fake German barrels. I have no idea where that came from.

Second, I asked about an expectation and several people said one inch groups at 100 yards.

I have to assume that expectation would be for CONSISTENT one inch groups.

I have a Taipan Mutant with a Korean barrel that shoots very well. I also have a Cricket that shoots OK with a CZ barrel.

You make it sound like you can shoot one inch groups consistently with your bullpup. Or, am I misunderstanding you. Please clarify.

They must have a load of them to “unload”. 😉

Steve who claimed they could go sub MOA every time? You’re in over your head arguing with me if you are going to use straw man fallacies.

Just to keep us on track YOU asked for our accuracy expectation, we gave it to you. Now you create a straw man in order to sell us on your bullshit premise that the fake German barrels are good enough. Well it ain’t working.

I’m still waiting for that physics lesson you offered on the other thread…

Amazing skill in the video Keyser….

Steve, thanks for the info, which is really helpful.

Now, I am keeping my fingers crossed that there is no waiting customers having the same last name as mine (if you know what I am talking about…). I don’t understand how difficult it is to provide tracking number if it has been shipped …

My “Germany” barrel is subpar at 30 yds and has been returned to Petr month ago. I should be able to test Petr’s “CZ barrel” soon IF received this week (today is Friday) as you indicated.

Endo

Keyser,

Answer me this.

At the Extreme Benchrest the highest score was a 190. The nine ring is 1.2 inches across. All you have to do is break the line to score a nine.

The highest score was a 190. Score ten for highest and 25 shots. If someone JUST hits the nine ring 25 times that would be a 225.

Please double check my match. It is still early here.

For someone to make the claim that they are consistently shooting one inch five shot groups at 100 yards…….

That would make them the best airgunner in the world. Do you agree?

You may need to get out more Steve

With casts I believe it is very possible in an airgun but diablo pellets are only so good. I more see 1 MOA at 50 and 2 MOA at 100 as good shooting with diablo pellets in very good conditions (Isn’t it always windy out there? 🙂 ) with an occasional 1 MOA at 100 yards. We had some very short fat barreled guns back in the day for bench rest shooting and they often won so length/size isn’t necessarily an issue.

I literally have a qb79 PCP that will stack pellets at 25 yds. Maybe these guys need to lay off the caffeine?

Hello Greg. It is I – Steve formally from WWAG. And YES, I am enjoying being retired.

Endo – I was there on Monday and Peter did ship your side lever and barrel. It should arrive today.

And, to everyone else – Hello and hope you are all enjoying the warmer weather. If it’s warmer where you are.

Last comment for this post. If shooting at 25 yards is so easy why doesn’t everyone at the Phoenix Benchrest club shoot a 250 sccore??? And these guys are REALLY GOOD. And, most are not shooting bullpups.

Cyrnno, welcome to the Mutant board.

It appears that Petr already has all the barrels to fix the mess he created.
Would you please do me a favor? When you visit Petr next time (ASAP) to enjoy playing with Mutants, please tell him I am still waiting for the CZ barrel and cocking side lever for my baby mutant. He does not take my call after my fist call more than two weeks ago. He has promised to send the replacement to me a month ago (email), two weeks ago (my first call), then a week ago again (via email), but I am still waiting for the replacement.
Thanks for the help.

Again, welcome to the forum and enjoy your retirement.

Regards,
Endo

Hey Mike it’s not on vacation it’s being used daily ……… :biggrinn:

Cyrnno ……. ……. is that u WWAG Steve Smith ?
If so, howdy from Hawaii and it seems you’re enjoying your retirement ! :8:

I agree with Keyser
My 30 dollar Crossman 760 will group pretty good at 25 yards,, I have killed many sparrows at that distance with the 30 dollar Crossman 760 Pump.
Bring it on out to 50 yards and beyond will be the test of a GOOD gun.
I did a test a few years or so ago with my 760 Crossman, 177 , Marauder 25 , Cricket 22 , No real winner at 25 yards,,,
50 yards the Marauder and cricket were pretty even, The 760 was out of the game, at 98 yards the cricket was the clear winner just by not having as many flyers,
I got a lot of springer’s I should have thrown in there just did not have the time,
My 30 dollar 177 Crossman 760 would stack pellets at 25 yards , But the scope I had on the gun was a Bug scope that cost four times the cost of the gun, Its in Hawaii now on vacation . ( the scope)
Hell stick the gun barrel up to some card board and its going to shoot one hole groups all day long
Mike

Showing a 27 yard group is like showing off a bird dog on planted birds or boasting about a truck’s off-road capabilities on a fire road.

it’s even hard to see clipping sometimes at 30 yards so 27 really doesn’t help. 50 yards provides much meaning with the right shooter and gun/scope/trigger setup in .22. It took me a good year to get really accurate with my Compact Cricket out to 75 yards and I shoot it almost daily in .177 and I live in a valley that is often near wind-less and have two solid bench rests setup for grouping and I shot competitive bench rest decades ago. Then there are so many other variables to consider. Ship them all to Keyser for testing. 😉
