Q:

My California Condor .25 Cal Talon Tune special!!

Yup.. It finally showed up 😛
I placed a down payment of 50% about 12 weeks ago or so. No hurry. Here are some photos of Anthony’s service for those who have considered or wondered about his work. A couple of years ago Tony built me a Talon SS custom in .22 cal with a nice 21″ barrel. Since then I have cleaned the bore and replaced the O rings and basically enjoyed cleaning it and maintaining it in my armory safe. At that time I was so pleased I knew I would have this guy build me my Condor when I could afford it.
Well here it is from UPS to my bench.
It is what I expected too! A 1st class operation indeed! Take a peak…

He has done this a few times eh? 😯

Tony also turned me on to a cool sample of 43 grain Korean Eunjin Pellets as seen on the left paper here notice the upper 800’s! The lighter 25 grain .25 cal Kodiaks did well over 900fps with a 21″ barrel. Notice the group hole at 38 yards.

I placed a 16X Center Point scope on it. It feels nice and ballenced and it is plenty of scope for the $$! Good for what I am doing.
I have placed it together and I will be sighting it in very soon. Right now I just basically finsihed setting it up and making sure it feels right.

I went with the Walkonking Butt plate since I have that other cool custom butt plate on my Talon SS.
I am very pleased with it. It is adjustable and very confortable. Now I have the best of both worlds. they look good in my armory side by side.
There may come a time when they don’t exist any more.
Tony may not do this forever.
A special thanks to Talon Tunes and all the folks out here who have given me help with choosing the right pellet! I love the Kodiak in my Talon. Such a winner!

What can I say… California Condor “Im stoaked” 8)
That .25 cal with a 21″ barrel is the way to fly.

Yeah.. I guess we have our own personal needs with things. Mine was quiet and the performance that goes with it is nothing to shake a stick at either. The 24″ barrels are great I am sure. But a 30 frain .25 cal pellet moving on an average or 950 to 960 fps is on the level with me.
1.The accuracy
2.The Power…
3. The Quiet is really cool.
Actually my .25 Condor makes a tad more noise than my .22 Talon. If I remove the shroud and just shoot it the thing is as loud as a .22 rim fire almost. The neighbors would hear that in their house. But with the shroud on it is much quieter! Major difference. The dogs don’t bark depending on what my pellet hits. But my Talon with a 2600 fill for the first 8 to 10 shots maybe does right at 900+ or – a few feet then it drops to a steady upper 800’s. This is plenty of Power. My Condor is a lttle unsafe for the back yard. A little too big actually. My .22 Talon with those .21 Grain Kodiaks you guys recommended is awesome and I have nailed 11 of those large squirrels.
So it is nice to have my options and the abilities to nail some things. I also want to state that also any shot I take I use a back stop. There are only really two places I will take shots within my back yard. One has a Power Pole for a back stop and the other has this hugh giant Juniper tree for a back stop that is about 20 feet wide. It is giant. So I never send a stray pellet on the other side of the block. This is a good and necessary habit to get into. It is also part of the 10 comandments of gun safety. We have all heard it but ask yourself. Do you live by it?
I just don’t want trouble. And I don’t want to ever hurt anyone or damage someones property.
But I love my Talon/Condor set up! They are truly everything I ever wanted in a air rifle.

Here is two 5 shot groups. Notice on the bottom I am moving from side to side. The top group I was more steady. The rifle will shoot better than I 😯

Can’t say enough good things about Talon tunes.
Tony Nailed it man.

Hey I have a question… Are the O rings in the Condor after Tony Built it the same size as the O rings in the Talon?

DFS I love reading stories like this. I know exactly what you mean. Silence=Something that can’t be weighed, yet is worth its weight in gold.

Awesome! Can’t wait to see some strings and groupings! Have fun.

Yeah..back when I first bought my Talon SS I was very impressed with it out of the box! I then discovered Tony and I decided I wanted a .22 21″ Barrel with the shroud. So Tony Sent me those two items. The rifle made a little noise and I had some questions for Tony. Tony asked me if I would ship my rifle to him and he went on to explain how all the things of the air rifle should be in a more harmonious state. Making sure the Knock valve is at it’s best setting and it helped to have it polished too. Baffles within the frame have holes in them so air pressure going back can be choked off. I shot my Condor yesterday without sighting in the scope just once from inside my garage into my brick fence to see how quiet it was. All I could hear is the trigger and hammer spring. No popping what so ever. No air no nothing. Beautiful!! And it was full power!
I like to just load about 2500 or maybe 2600 in the tank and it gives me plenty of shots. For what I am doing. This way right off the bat I am in a decent curve ratio for accuracy and power. I basically had Tony do everything he can to this Condor. I bought it from him and I went down his parts and price list and I ended up choosing the whole thing. Tony Kept the .22 barrel and subtracted some $$ off for me too since I have a .22 Talon from him with all the same work so I didn’t need it. My final price was $1555.00
I am really pleased. It looks impressive and it operates just as impressive. The Walkonking butt plate is sweet too. I will dial it in and shoot some pictures of groups. .25 CAL!! A buddy of mine brought over his RWS .25 cal Springer(I hate springers),and I clocked it for him with my Blue Chrony in the garage between 500 and 600 fps. It makes noise and it’s a torque tank. Then I broke out my Condor and it clocks over 900 fps average and it is soooooo quiet and so much more accurate. But remember now, He paid close to $700 for his and I paid $1555.00 for mine.
I also like to run the dewy rod through the bore and polish that puppy up.

😉
Sometimes just placing a new barrel on it is good and even better but once it is all matched up with itself and tolorances narrowed… man look out. 😈 But My main thing was quiet. I was targeting safely in a silent putty boxed trap down low in my yard and just 20+ yards away was a neighbor in his yard and he didn’t notice a thing. Perfect.

I see your point, and I suppose I am hopeful of having the best of both worlds. Power and accuracy. I have heard many people, not on this forum, talk bad about the accuracy of the airforce rifles, but my experience with a basically stock 24″ .22 condor is just the opposite. I find this rifle to be extremely accurate with knock down power to boot. I am curious to see how Tony’s Tuned .25 cal 24″ barrel compares to my .22

My BSA Scorpion is profoundly accurate. At a price of 850.00 (with a perfect trigger and whisper quiet firing), I couldn’t conceive of paying two times or nearly three times that price for a rifle that is hands down “creme of the crop” but in a realistic “live fire” comparison not justified at that extremely disparate price. I mean, if the thing mowed my lawn, and pulled weeds…maybe 😆

Enjoy your new stick! Post results! Later

Congrads !!!!!

I think you will have some fine results. However with much respect I would suggest at long ranges if targeting is the primary objective a “Daystate Airwolf” But thats just my opinion.
I use my Airforce system for Hunting and targeting. It is very accurate. I need quiet for my backyard.. SHhhhhhh 😯 😛

And man have my results been superb. And always safety first!! I always know where my pellet stops. I think if we live by that we will not go wrong.
Once Anthony said to me regarding the rifle to choose,..”it depends on what you want to do”…he said that if you want to put the pellet through the same hole out to 50 to 70 yards then he suggested a British Airwolf.
And after what I read on those I could see his point. But for us and Tony and myself the Airforce series has power and accuracy and some other advantages for set up and building of one. More so than any air gun on the planet that I know of.
With that 24″ barrel you just might be able to pull it off with the accuracy you are thinking of… More power to ya. I like a challenge.
I see… your point.
I can group one hole targets with 5 to 10 rounds out to 17,20,25,35 yards depending on the wind. I also like to run my dewy rod with airgun cleaner and then bore paste to polish it up a tad. I think this helps in the accuracy department.
Let me know how you do with this ok? Hell I might even try to see what I can do with my 21″er 😉
We can compare the two considering wind conditions and all.

I hear ya man. Got a nice quiet BSA Scorpion for that. I do love the sound of these Condors when they “crack”. If I was using it for hunting, then I would want it quiet…but it will mainly be for target shooting and my main concern with it is accuracy. I am looking forward to grouping at 100 yards, and obviously I am hopeful that this will be my most accurate rifle at that long range!

Hell man have Tony fit a shroud to it so if there is ever a time when you need it you have it.
Just think,.. end cap and normal operation. Then …shroud with special opps 😆
It would be a little long but it is a sniper thing anyway and you would have it when needed. 💡 ❓

Just when I started to calm down my anxiety, DragonFlySlayer gets me all worked up again. I too am awaiting the arrival of my .25 cal Tony Special. Mine is going to be a 24″ barrel because it will not have a shroud. I think I’m around 9 weeks or so now…getting close. 🙂

On low air fill of 2200 psi, I am getting 977 with a 21′ Bbl. with the 31 gr. Kodiaks. I haven’t tested with a higher fill yet. OUT or AIR!!! 👿

Mike

Wow thats cool. If you take 60fps more approximately lets say… on top of the fps’s Tony already clocked for me with a 21″ barrel,it would average over 1000fps with the .25 Kodiak.
With my 21″ barrel is is mid to upper 900’s.

This is what I was wondering…
“I’ve got questions,””you’v got answers” 😉

Oh yeah….

Thanx

Should be about 60fps for the 24″ over the 21″

🙂

Right.
In the PCP world a longer barrel generates more power from what I have read. So I was just wondering how much more a 24″ might be compared to a 21″. But I really have more than plenty of power so I am by no means thinking of wanting more. 8)

Man Tony did a cool job on these two Airforce rifles.
I have had my Talon for about 2 years and it is mega quiet and I can nail 5 shots in a dime at 25 to 30 yards. Most of the time I am only nailing targets at 17 to 20 yards. Thats all I need.

So quiet the dogs don’t notice.

dont have a chrono so fps cant help ya there and i’m bad at guessing fps .
its a bit loud without the shroud, but yes the barrel and shroud are a bit long but i dont care, still fun to shoot.
