My Vet 25 Short
:8: Got my Veteran 25 cal Shorty in today from Tony in all to sweet condition, a big THANKS Tony !

Just had time before dinner to run some chorny numbers that jives with Tony’s …..
I be up late to mount a scope on for tomorrow, I’ll be introducing this little cannon to the pests at the farm.

Removed the LDC to clean the barrel …….. parts are in order in which they came out.

So beautiful of a gun … … . all parts and machining are of the Extreme !

With JSB King 25g at 880fps and falling off the reg between 135-140 bar, my Vet is getting about 3-4 bar per shot at that tune.
So at 140 bar filling any additional 40 bar added for each 10 shot mag.
To find fill pressure needed to shot all mags, 140 bar + 40 x (# for mags) = top off pressure.
A 220 bar fill should give me 2 mags = 20+ shots.
A 180 bar fill 1 mag = 10 +shots.
Good to know when your CF tank starts to go low ……….

Thoses China base pink rubs won’t last u long …….. mileage will vary according to the recall ?
We seem to have the same Tapian combo Mike ….. Mutant 22 Shorty and the Vet 25 Shorty.
I believe I’ve seen another member with it too ?
Love em short pups and I’m with yah on the 177 cal and believe it’ll be a great Power three Oh to have.
…… .. .. long live the Shorties !! :8:

200 220 bar fill here also , Just to save on the rubbers.
My LW barrels like the polymags, Linstone also, CZ barrels will not so much,
But that’s just my guns,
Mike
With the Vet I’m just checking it’s limits, prefer not to fill so high at 250 bar for long periods.
Most of my PCPs are top filled to 200-220 bar, most to 220.
Less stress on everything, it save on the O-rings seals and last longer between rebiluds.
Fill to there I’ve been getting about 20-25 regulated shots or so.
We usually shoot right out of our trucks in the back sometimes off of the tail gate.
Snip range between 50-70 yards …….. at another farm out to 120 yards.
My friend and I bring along 1 CF tank top filled to 4500 psi, and 2 PCPs each …….. more than enough.
Don’t think I’d use King Heavies none to tryout but with same tune guesstimate about 780 fps, feel that it’s already pushed …… but never say never.
But, I’ll be trying Polys …. maybe tomorrow.
oh ……. .. the accuracy …. the 10 shot grouping is a nice hole at 50 yards and not even a ragged one. :8:

GKU, I hear you loud and clear. I like to squriel hunt with my AG’s, I carry gun, seat, and promos shooting sticks. Don’t really walk around a lot…stalk to an area where I know they are sit and snipe :biggrinn: . It’s great sometimes sit by one tree an shoot 4 or 5, takes patience. Just don’t like the idea of something else to carry. No problem if I can get 36 or so shots. 8 squriels is a limit per day in Alabama. If I take 36 shots and can’t limit, with the way these Gus shoot… I’ll probably give up!!

You could also deside later if you want to sell the Vulcan or not.
If you desire a more compact short size to bring up and with comparable spec like above, I’d go for the Short one.
If a higher shot count and power/mod are in your needs make the move on a Standard.
If you bring/carry a bottle with you into the field then shot count may not be of a concern.
But it’s all up to you Sir, just my nutty thinking. ………. and :2cents: .

GKU, Thank you for the great information. It looks like I’m coming down with ineeditous, which is when mere investigation of Airgun…suddenly turns in a bank draft! :suprisedn: I’m not sure if I need to sell Vulcan, or just go ahead and add the Veteran Short 25 to the cabinet? Enjoy your new AG!

Looking at this little wonder of a gun …… makes me smile .. :biggrinn:

For those who lost reference to the Factory setting measured at 12 oz pull, but IDK if all are the same .. will help you get closer back though. I’m adjusting trigger pull/settings as I shoot my Vet, intime it should end at 8-10 oz being a 25 cal.

Latest chorny string with JSB King 25g a tad high but in time the HS should play down a bit, in red are readings off of the guns gauge.

Measurement at 880fps is .032″ height of HST out of receiver with HST holes at 4:30 and 10:30 position.

Max velocity with JSB King 25g is 900fps achieved with HST about 3/4 turn in CW from 880fps.

Tony, there is no caliber option to choose from 22 or 25 cal, only 22 in the description below ?
~ Thanks ~ Greg

The new Vet shorty 22 u got out shoots my Mutant 22 shorty in shot count and fpe, and that’s a good thing Tapian is heading in the right direction ! Find it strange that the mags went from 12 to 10 shot, all in all both very accurate !
Not sure at what fill Tony did the crony at but I to will need to see with a top fill to 250 bar.
My CF tank at 220 bar needs a top fill with my Omega SC but I need to wait to morning.
I anticipate about close to 27-30 shots at 880ish …. we’ll see, I usually get one extra mag to fill with Polys only.
Note on the 25 cal Vet mags, Tony was out IDK couldn’t find them on his site ?
But pick up 2 extra from Randy at R&L and complained to him that I got one that was defective or without the pinion.

Had no idea that it wasn’t until my Vet arrived with the 2 mag were pinion less and both with or without have a total thickness of 13.9mm.

As much as you like your 22 Mutant, I just knew it was a matter of time before you broke down and got you a 25 Veteran .
About the only think I have put down my barrel is JSB 25 gr and polymags.
Pretty limited to 48 yards right now, Its deadly at that distance.
Nice looking wood.
Mike
Thanks Mike
Yes, you can tell when I start to poke around asking tech question I’m caught in an interest.
Also to I’d pick up a 177 cal Veteran for sure if it ever comes into the USA ………..

GKU, Awesome looking AG you got there, I have Vet shorty in 22 and love it. Considering the shorty 25 now, just wondering about shoot count, noticed the fps dropping off in the string provided by Tony at shots 19 and 20. Also noticed you got 2 extra mags. Do you anticipate getting 36 acceptable stable shots with one fill?

While temporarily mounting an old Mamba lite scope on my Vet I recalled reading an interestingly important info on canting error and scope leveling.
Lost it and will try and find it and post it here later, but remembered to copy the writing and image on how to apply it using a mirror.
Use the scope set on the highest power, focused at the closest distance, and the mirror at HALF that distance from the scope. What you are looking for is the vertical crosshair bisecting the image of the scope objective AND the bore in the mirror.
If you use a plumb bob hanging from the bore, and use the mirror method to align the vertical crosshair with the bore and objective at the same time. IF the scope is not centered over the bore you will end up with situation “C” in the diagram below.
This is exactly the way you will have to hold the rifle during shooting, so you may as well get used to the idea. The only way the rifle will be vertical is if the scope is exactly centered over the bore (as it should be). This is, unfortunately, not as common as you would hope. The important thing is that the crosshair lines up with the bore. If the scope is mounted off center, then you have to twist it and then when you shoot you have to hold the scope level, which means you must twist the gun to do that.
If you end up with this setup extreme and mind it you could correct it using Burris Zee rings or better yet XTR Signature Rings.
But minds ended up just a tad off in the rings I’m using not the gun and will live with ………… for now.
