Q:

need help on regulator adjustment

Just got my R3 standard (used, but spanking new to me!) and it’s shooting very hot. I did adjust the HST and max out at 980fps on JSB 18.1g. My speed start to drop off at around 127ish bar.

How much turn should I turn the regulator to get it near the recommended fps by you guys at 900fps?

Insanity check CW to decrease
CCW to increase, correct?

thanks,

will be watching OG regulator video.

Hi xbangu,

You’ve been very helpfull with your explenation!
Did you took some photo’s while the reg was apart?
At what pressure is the reg set at this moment?

Thanks,

Robert

Ditto^^^. Lets see full string from 200bar until it drops off reg. Do you have any idea how many shots are on reg before you got it and how many have you added? I know I didn’t even touch mine til I had at least 2k through it. It definitely needed some time to settle in. Once I opened up reg I initially lubed washers with a bit of balistol and then sat down and ran appx a dozen shot strings(appx 1500 pellets)during multiple reg/HST adjustments over several hrs.Yes I’m anal :-). I’ve got close to 20k shots on her now and it is like a fine timepiece. No matter where in fill pressure or how quick or slow I cycle shots as long as I’m in reg pressure it’s 890fps +-3fps SD with 10fps max spread now with 5.52 sized skirts through die.

Thanks God for that !

I have been following this exercise of yours with horror…….. 😉

Get a full shotstring posted on here when you have the time. This is truly interesting reading….

Cheers 😀

Got it working, I removed the reg and loosen up the washers and woohoo it good. Didnt jog down or did anmore adjustment. High was 901 and low was 877 for 60shot+.

After another refill at 180b and I wait for awhile before shooting.
reg setting 1/4 in from stock, HST setting 1t out from stock

180b
890 895 888 886 884 880 873 862 844 839 about 20s per shot
165b with HST 1/4 in 5min wait
896 887 874 872 856 819 824 817 804 811 about 20s per shot
152b HST 1/2 out 5min wait
880 878 883 881 882 873 876 874 868 867 about 5+min per shot
138b

Look like my reg setting is good around 890fps and my HST need tobe 1/8 i and it should be good. From looking at the FPS, I notice if I waited 5min per shot, my fps look very good about 16fps spead. But if I shoot at normal pace 20-30s per shot, my fps drop about 10fps for each shots.

This is 3rd fills with this reg setting, what could be the cause that its to drop if I shoots at 20-30s per shots? if I wait 5+min per shot it’s all good.

My last reg setting was from 130b and 1 1/2 in, could I be turing in too much the last time that some washers/disks get stuck and only allow a small port for air to enter “dump air/ after reg” which take 5+min to fill up or ?????

any suggestion are welcome.

after 1 1/2 hour nap. I woke up chroning it again.
140b 857 856 835 824 800 794 790 784 774 762
5 min wait
130b 832
HST 1/4 in
832 811 804 783
HST 3/4 in
749 743 716 712
121b & 5 min wait
782

Pretty much I am lost here, the more I shoots the more fps drops and if I let it sit awhile it’s good. Seems my reg & HST setting right now is good at 856fps, BUT i have to wait between shots. Each time I adjust mt HST, I locked it afterward.

My setting for reg and HST now are at( from stock 130bar): reg 1/4 turn in and HST is 1t out.

Xbangu, I am tuning a R3 right now and I am getting real close with it.

I shot 3 fills yesterday; the first 2 took a little while between shots as I was also adjusting the HST screw. I thought that after the 2nd fill, I was close to where I wanted to be. It was soon going to be too dark for my chrony to work so, I slammed the last fill out as fast as I could load and shoot. My full shot string tapered off like yours does.

I have never been in a hurry while using a chrony so, I don’t know if it takes more than a couple of seconds for the reg to fully fill. That is interesting though and I will have to try it again sometime.

If you are starting out at 850 fps, you might need more HST, a little more reg or both.

I wanted to get the gun that I am working on done but, it is going to rain all day here. I am going to try to find a lighting kit for my chrony somewhere within 40 miles from me and then go get it. I doubt that I will be able to find one; I will have to try to make a light kit on my own.

OG-

Did turn back the HST 1t (not enough, too much in before), but I guess I am seeing what your are saying. FPS keep dropping a few fps every shots between 5-10 fps.

Refill up to 180b with HST 2t out from stock

180b
850 856 856 856 845 848 837 838 835 826 in 1 min
170b no break
840 839 829 825 828 818 820 826 815 811 in 1min
160b 5min break
855 859 845 844 825 835 832 829 831 827 in 10min
145b

Not sure what other thing I did or something, but my FSP still dropping. HST set csrew is locked. It seems if shoots cont my FPS look like crap, but if I wait between it look a little better???

Is there a wait time between shots? to get the fps stablelized?

quote oldgoat:

Damn! I always thought that you turned the reg adjusting screw CW to reduce the reg pressure. 😆

Sorry, I thought he was talking about HST. My bad 😳

Just got the reg set to I think normal, becaese it geting dark here and my chrono stop working after dark. (9-5) chrono 🙂 Will try to cont this weekend and see how it go.

I cannot believe I drop my 88cf from 4500psi to 3400psi… one more reg setting and this tank need a refill!

And thank you for all those tips OG.

Ya beat me to it!

Also remember to back the HST screw at least 1 full turn out after a reg adjustment. If you don’t do that, you could end up on the “back side” of the reg and it will drive you crazy trying to find the high speed!

DON”T ask me how I know! 😳

Then turn the HST in 1/8 turn at a time until you get the highest speeds. If it takes me more that a few turns/shots, I will refill and then shoot a full fill.

Have fun!

Nevermind the 300fps… stupid turn in 1 1/2.

OG

After I turn 1/2 CW from stock, I am not sure what I did but now it’s only shooting 300fps??? dry fires sound weak too like it’s out of air. I first fill it to 150bar, though it might need to fill all the way up. Then at 200 bar and still getting 300fps. HST is at same place, not sure what going on??? 😥 1 full turn on the HST increase by 40fps

There is not leak fromt he breech/ where the pellet sit.

any suggestion what to look for?

The last time I adjust the reg, the side of the brass is a bit loose. I open (courisity) and screw it back. That is the only diff from the last 2 time I adjust the reg. Could it be I did not screw it in tight enough on the brass side?

Or…. maybe I lost count and turn 1 1/2t in??? gotta get all the air out first and will try again…. 😥

Xbangu, they all seem to need a different amount of adjustment, no 2 are exactly alike.

My R3 25 long was in the 980s and if my stock setting was at 12:00, I ended up at 7:30 or so to get in the 880 fps range.

Again, I have been adjusting a “problem child” R3 25 long most of the day today and you turn the Reg adjusting screw CW to reduce the set pressure.

Just please be sure that you have all air out of the air tube before you try to remove the front plug!

after CW 3/8 intitially, it was shooting around 950. I though my HST is a little light therefor it’s not putting out more. I just shoot without looking to bleed all the air out.

Now I just fill it up at 1/4 CCW from stock setting… 😡

Well guess I have to shoot all the air out then (from stock) 1/2 CW like you said there OG.

thanks,
