Q:

New adjustable TT Top Hat data

This is an update to my post on March 8.
I am using a .22 Condor, 24 inch barrel, with a TT adjustable TH and 25.4 JSB’s

I just got the adjustable TH from TT and wanted to post my most recent results.
PW-8, 2575 psi start, large insert

886,897,901,909,906-2500psi
885,917,909,910,910-2400
915,911,913,910,905-2300
899,900,895,892,910-2220
893,883,889,888,883-2120
884,883,885,884,883-2020
875,873,874,867,861-1950
863,863,858,866,850-1850

2450 start fill and PW at 4, large insert
900,897,916,910,902-2400
901,905,902,900,900-2315
899,896,897,894,898-2195
897.894,893,890.889-2090
881,879,880,871,875-2000

My general impressions are that it is using a lot less air (maybe half of the stock TH) and flattening things out. I am going to play around with some different PW settings and the smaller insert. Another thing I noticed is that my gun consistently groups the best when the tank pressure is between 2150 and 2375 regardless of other variables. I am not drawing any conclusions about this, I just wanted to share my data.

Comments appreciated.

I have tested other set ups and the restricted air flow with a heavy preload is very efficient and shoots well. I am open to anything but this really works well for me. The TT adj valve gave me many options and this setup just worked.

No two guns will act the same when it comes to pw setting and air consumption. Each one is totally unique so what setting works for mine will not work for others. You are on the right track by testing and cataloging your findings! Why are you guys using heavy pre-load on a restricted (insert) valve opening?

Has anyone tried the new Tophat with the 14.3g pellets yet?

Today i shot the 22 Polymag. I woll post results in the next couple days.

I’ve got a TT adjustable tophat on my new .22 Condor SS. After reading all this and seeing you results and settings I’m gonna play with the PW a bit. Been on 5 most the time. Shoots JSB 18.1’s well (to me at least) at lower psi on paper at 70 yards….just watched 2 huge coyotes walk casually under the streetlight across the street. Hmmmmmmm. Better not, I’m in town limits. Anyway I would like to hear any new results with those JSB monsters.

I’m shocked that you were able to get .25″ at 25 yards with the .24gr’s. Much better than any I have heard of to date. congrats.

Lurker, they were a bust. a real honest shot gun pattern. Full choke to be sure, but shot gun pattern never the less.

I want to test them at a higher velocity before giving up.

Yrrah over on the yellow has had much better luck with the Starion (sp?) version of the .24gr’s. . Very unusual for a pointed version of a pellet to out shoot the domed version. I have never seen them.

KnifeMaker

lurker I haven’t even put my ported valve stem back into my gun now that I have Tony’s new one lol well at least we got that info out there for other people starting out

Thank you sir! Should have some new data soon!

N3486N,

Good report :thumb:

And it speaks real good for Tony’s New Single Piece AdjustableTop Hat :thumb:

I was pleased to see it is really beefed up compared to the thin walled AF valve stem. It should take a lot of punishment from heavier hammers that are necessary for heavier pellets and slugs for bigger game.

Keep the data coming :11:

lurker 1, you were right about the JSB18.1. I tested some today for the first time. The results are as follows.

18.13 .22 JSB Exact, 2490 psi fill to start, small TT insert with PW on 11, 25 yrd test range

Fps started at 982 and descended in an almost perfect linear line down to 900 after 50 shots. No POI shift and accuracy was the best I have seen by far. Half of the 5 shot groups were below .2 with the best being .13, .14, .145 , the ones over .2 were due to single fliers due to shooter.

End PSI after 50 shots was 1800

I may drop the PW setting to see if I can get a bell curve of plotted velocity but not really needed as the groups and the POI were so tight.

Initial findings suggest the 18.1 are much more accurate than the 25.4 with the settup I have.

comments welcome

I broke down and ordered 500 18.1 JSBs a couple hours ago! With the same setup I have now with the small insert and high PW setting, should put me right there! I will advise with the results!

My notes tell me that for 100 yards,18.1gr JSBs were the best .22 cal..at 900-950 FPS.
I haven’t bought .22s for almost 2 years so your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the support!

The 25.4 only seem to shoot decent through a narrow range of tank psi say 1950-2400 or so.

What may be a better pellet? 18.1? How much better?

😳 my mistake .22, not .25

I only recall one guy reporting good groups with those .22 MONSTER ash cans.
I only shot a few just before I switched to .177 on that frame.
I sent some to KnifeMaker for testing but he has a lot to do just getting a ShoeBox compressor to set up. Etc. Etc.

Everybody should check out your setup ❗
I thought those would be a good round for .22.
Now I wish I had a 3rd AF rifle cuz I don’t want to switch out of my .177 or.25.

That is a really flat string ❗ Keep up the good work :thumb:
