Q:

New Guy with new to me 25 standard

Just joined the forum today after getting a slightly used Cricket Standard 25cal a few weeks back. I’ve had a couple of Marauders which I sold to finance the Cricket and I currently own a Regal XL FAC and AA S500 FAC. I’m really pleased with the Cricket. The power and shot count is awesome. It’s currently shooting about 990fps over 55 shots from a 250bar fill down to 120 where it falls off the reg. Normally I fill to 220-230. It’ll shoot sub MOA at 50 yards some of the time. My scope is the Hawke SW 6-24X56 12 mildot. I just lowered the velocity down to about 950 to see how the accuracy is there. With the time change and bad weather I haven’t had a lot a time to evaluate the new velocity. I’m probably going to send it to Ernest and let him do a tune on it in a couple of weeks. Anyway I may be picking some of ya’ll brains for advice and information so beware..

Now that is one cool looking place

Greg I really envies you weather :thumb: I hate winter. When I was young I enjoy for winter now I rather summer time :fishing: Maybe someday I would visit Hawaii. I was on Hawaii only with google street view 🙂 there is beautiful green nature and marvelous see.

Thank Jan !

Yes, we are lucky to live Hawaii where we can shoot all year long !
No down time so I’m (no excuses for) never out of practice.

One day when I retire I have plans to redo my bug out. It will have fully enclosed with air conditioning and a small ice box. Security system so I can leave one gun in there if I need to.

Latest pic, when my friends come over I need to setup a small table to the left of.

~ GKU, the Bougainvillea hedges are over a hundred years old !
I’m growing it over the roof to help with the heat.

Greg so sweet place for shooting 🙂 Warm and calm that´s fain. 🙂

Yes some seem to likes it hotter. My 3 friends each have one that likes it @ 880-890 fps another @ 900-940 fps and a another @ 960-970 fps. They all crony at my place with the same crony setup, and at the same distance, same tin of pellets, all achieving sub .4″ ctc grouping @ 50 yards @ different velocities.

Polymags in the 25 cal seem if it does extremely well in that cal only for us anyway. Maybe it because Kings and the Ploy are closely the same weight and one doesn’t need to dial it down.
All other cals seem to like it dialed down some what since most are using heavies (18 gr verse 16 gr). I do like the Polymags but one needs to know if it will make the kill zone if it wonders.

My little bug out shelter/range, we like to check the accuracy at the same time as we crony and make speed adjustments.

I did a little testing this morning. The weather conditions were about 60deg and a slight wind from right to left. I dropped my velocity down to 930, shot 3 groups of 5, bumped it up to 950 and repeated the shot count making sure I wasn’t getting anywhere near the regulator fall off pressure. I ended up back at 980 and my groups are actually better there 😯 I really couldn’t tell a lot of difference in shot report but I did notice at the lower velocity the ping was noticeable. Honestly it’s the first time I’d noticed it on this gun and I don’t think it was because of the reduced velocity shot report. It seems like as close to the air tube my ear is I would have noticed it before. I also shot a few 25cal predators and they actually shot well, at least at 50yds. 😉

Nice groupings ! I stand behind my point about the trans-sonic speed though. I have found myself , that in all my Airguns the accuracy starts to suffer when i get to the TS velocity. The TS speed had greater effect the smaller the caliber. Other peoples findings may differ .. :fishinghole:

Sweet spots for Kings so far are 880-920,920-970 & the new 1025fps reported by some.

If that’s your cup of tea, I would then start hi and dial it down to find your maximum that you like with your acceptable accuracy that you like.

Never try the 1025fps knowing that the shot count will suffer and with an increase muzzle report to boot.

I´ve found that once you get into that transsonic level of speed a Pellet doesn´t cope well there. I think it gets too instable or something. I stay at around 285 mps = 935 fps , plus minus 30 fps , and all my Crickets (and those two Matador .22 i owned) shoot/shot at their best.

My .177 Compact is also set at 285 mps with 10.3 gr Heavies and it shoots laser accurate and with very little deviation from 200-210B down to 110B.

JSB Kings @ 1024 fps.

It’s called closed cell insulation, closed cell foam pads, neoprene foam pads, adhesive backed foam pads…the best place to look is Ebay.com, as there are many lengths and thicknesses to choose from. Don’t get anything larger than 1/4″ thick, as it tends to pull loose from whatever you stick it to. Recall the curvature of the action, and this requires a a serious bend in the foam to conform to the breech shape, and a very strong adhesive to hold it tight. When you bend a thick foam pad, it tends to “pull back” to it’s original flat form and sometimes that’s more pull than the adhesive can hold.

I would start out with a 1/8″ adhesive backed pad, and trim it to fit. The thinner, the better, because thin is flexible.

Just my experience. The stuff is cheap. The sound you are muffling is not that loud. It doesn’t take that thick a pad to get the job done.

Others may disagree, and I will fight to the death to defend their right to disagree with me…although privately I may be thinking “Idiots…Eat shit and die!!!” But that’s just me and my personal world view.

Kind regards,

I agree also. I have a Great White tank and could care less about shot count. I want one hole groups that’s what I’m looking for.

i mostly use my Cricket for hunting, so shot count isnt very important to me rather than accurace and quietness , sometimes i can spend hours on the field without firing the gun  😀

Finally someone with the same opinion on this matter. I don´t care whether i have 50,55 or even 60 shots per fill as long as each and every shot i do have hits the same exact spot with reasonable power. When the POI drops i fill the bugger. Five shots more or less doesn´t matter the least to me.
