New Guy with new to me 25 standard
Just joined the forum today after getting a slightly used Cricket Standard 25cal a few weeks back. I’ve had a couple of Marauders which I sold to finance the Cricket and I currently own a Regal XL FAC and AA S500 FAC. I’m really pleased with the Cricket. The power and shot count is awesome. It’s currently shooting about 990fps over 55 shots from a 250bar fill down to 120 where it falls off the reg. Normally I fill to 220-230. It’ll shoot sub MOA at 50 yards some of the time. My scope is the Hawke SW 6-24X56 12 mildot. I just lowered the velocity down to about 950 to see how the accuracy is there. With the time change and bad weather I haven’t had a lot a time to evaluate the new velocity. I’m probably going to send it to Ernest and let him do a tune on it in a couple of weeks. Anyway I may be picking some of ya’ll brains for advice and information so beware..

Thanks all, I’ve got an open mind and I’m going to experiment at all velocities from about 900 and up. I shot it at 80 yds the other evening and 950 was giving me sub 1″ groups, just eyeballing it. It may be a whole new ball game anyway after Ernest does some barrel lapping. It’s going to have to warm up though before I try anything. Its 19 degrees this morning. Too damn cold for a desert dweller. 😀 PS, got to find a indoor range. :winkn:

Sorta looks like a snake…….
The accuracy is every bit as good at 930 fps than it is at 890. And The Viper is indeed 1/2″ in girth but compensates it in length.
Just sayin’ …
If, at 60 yards, you are consistently shooting 1/2″ groups, the diameter of Sir Ville’s pecker, I’d leave it alone.
Unless you need a lot of FPE, shooting the .25 at a lower speed that gives you great accuracy, is still a good idea.
Just saying….

Your best accuracy will take place in the range of 880 fps to around 910-920 fps, but not more.
It has been the experience of the shooters here that 880 to 900 fps seems to offer the best stability (accuracy) so re-think, or do a “search” for best accuracy fps. I believe you will find that much over 900 fps you will tend to get fliers and such. Remember you are shooting domed nosed pellets with skirts, not boat-tailed slugs with tapered noses, so too much speed kills accuracy.
Just my opinion, experience, and reading of earlier posts, but search away, or post the question directly to the forum, or to Ernest…I believe he will offer similar advice.
It’s just like Dirty Harry said…”A pellet’s got to know it’s limits!”

That’s BS from an old and confused Arkansanian. I’ve tested all kinds of fps from both of my .25’s and that “golden rule” did not apply on neither. Both shot best at around 930 fps – as does my friends .25 WB.
The golden rule 880-890 is BS !
It was “found” by A Dutch scientist in the late 16th Century while he was testing his theory of a Golden Rule of Slingshot.
The thing with Uncle Hoot is this : Like all wise and elderly people he has these flashes of times past and so he gets confused. Like they say the short term memory is the first to go.
Sweet spots for Kings so far are 880-920,920-970 & the new 1025fps reported by some.
If that’s your cup of tea, I would then start hi and dial it down to find your maximum that you like with your acceptable accuracy that you like.
Never try the 1025fps knowing that the shot count will suffer and with an increase muzzle report to boot.

My cricket 25 will not group well under 950 fps with the jsb25.4 gr.

Hoot,
Thanks for the advice and I’ll watch out for Sir Villa’s input 😯
Man, I was hoping to keep the velocity up a little higher. I’m always willing to try something different though. I’m using 60yds as my zero and I shot these groups just after I got the gun. Maybe with a little barrel work and slowing it down a little I can get it a little tighter. I do get some fliers though.
Jk

Oh my bad I looked at the wrong name, I guess that was meant for Renval….
Thanks for the replies guys. A couple of follow up questions and comments…
Sir Ville, From what i’ve read over the last few weeks it sounds like the 900-940fps is kinda the norm for best accuracy. If Ernest ask what I’m looking for I might suggest a tune for 930-950??? (just fishing), leaving me room to go up or down but staying within sight of the targeted tune velocity. If he tunes it for say 940 are there any ill effects of just using the HS adjuster to experiment up or down? I’ve got the same question sent to Ernest. From what I’ve seen on maintaining the guns it does look very doable for the average guy. I’ve already done the seer engagement adjusting screw mod. Mine backed out far enough it wouldn’t cock. 😡 I’ve also ordered extra O-rings and have a nice stock now. I had also considered lapping the barrel myself but this ain’t no $30 Mrod barrel so I’ll probably leave the barrel work to Ernest. Everyone one speaks highly of Ernest’s work. Great videos too..
Renval, what were you most pleased about with the work from Ernest? What it that noticable?
KGB, My gun is stock.

Hey Gracklesmacker,
Just a quick question, did Ernest vent your shroud and also do you know at how many FPS you are shooting at now? Also, how many shots are you getting from a fill and to how many bar are you filling? Did he install a depinger? Sorry I guess that was five questions.
Ernest is the man, a wealth of knowledge and a master air gunsmith!
I got my .25 cricket back from Ernest a few weeks ago, fortunately I had the opportunity to take out this last Saturday.I remember the gun shooting pretty good before I sent to Ernest for a screw valve bleeder problem, he fixed that and also she got a full tune up, just one word, outstanding!!!! I was hitting 2inches Daisy Shatterblast targets from 75 yards to 140 every single time , thanks Ernest, I’m just a happy customer! :biggrinn:
Welcome ! You´ll get better accuracy and , of course , shot count with lower fps. I shot mine at 920-930 fps and the reg was set at 115 B. I don´t remember at what settings i ran the valve spring tension at but nevertheless it shot very small groups at 50 meters. Every time, every shot. Was there an occasional flier that was due a bad pellet and not because of change in velocity.
Ernest will sort it out for you but in all fairness these Crickets are very easy to DIY if you have the time and a modicum of know-how.

Jimmy those groups don’t look to shabby. Prolly get alittle tighter after Ernest finishes it.
