can someone tell me the laws here…i have read, but my english when it comes to laws and lawyer formulated text i come up short
i know guns open or concealed on school grounds, goverment buildings etc is a no no….
bt what if im walking in a park…say FORT ORD, or a local park outside the city’s (not talking about the small lawns with tress in the middle of the citys….im talking hiking places…etc…
what is ok what is not….
what would you do, and what wouldnt you do….
im thinking hip or leg holster (those lowered from the belt by 5-10″ to rest on the thigh
hip holsters are they ok if covered by a jacket or does it have to be fully visible ?
may it be loaded ready to go

this one was interesting i think, as that was my intended place to be carrying a gun, for hunting as well as plinking (if permittet)

i supposed packed would mean in a backpack, kinda sucks if a mountain lion has decided to eat you, and you have to get it out of the backpack, and while shaking load it up with ammo hehe.
and lastly it seems like a shotgun would be a better choise if one want to protect him/her self

Calling the CA DOJ to ask legal advice will get you a different answer to the same question every time you call.

Carry a loaded sidearm in a car? I doubt it unless you have a CC permit…
Hunting season out in the woods, once your out of the car… On BLM property it is legal as well without a hunting permit…
Unless you like lots of attention from the police and guns pointed in your face and at your heart DO NOT OPEN CARRY in public, even unloaded…

WOK’s experience just about sums up the way many Californians feel about anything that even resembles a gun… Cops like to secure the firearm before they ask questions, basically you could be shot if you don’t obey.
Some old man with an airsoft pistol without orange paint found that out this year in Oakland… Cops said put it down and he moved to point it at them, game over…
I think if you CC you have to keep it concealed, if someone sees it it isn’t concealed is it? You’ll end up in a world of shit until they finally get to your wallet and find you have a permit, you’ll be put to the ground by gunpoint first though or possibly shot if you happen to be in the wrong part of town… 😉
I believe that it is legal to carry a loaded sidearm when traveling to or from a gun club that you are a member of. I think that it is also leagl to carry a laoded sidearm when hunting with a valid hunting license.
Cyg, you should call the California Depatrment of Justice. They are about the nicest and most informative people you’ll ever talk to from a government agency. You should make a list of questions before you call them and then write down their answers. Your local gun shop where you bought your guns will have the number for the gun detail. Or, you could always Google it.
Legal or not. To Open Carry in California in a city or park is just looking for trouble and to give advice that it is okay is not doing anyone here a favor.
People do get shot and arrested regularly here in CA by the police. All you have to do is watch the news. The latest episodes of innocent people getting shot has the LAPD looking at sending officers for more training and less shootingl

If you are out in the wilderness and in an area it is OK to shoot then you are fine. Even then I always put my rifle down on its bipod when a car or motorcycle drives by. That way no one is confused as to my intention as they pass by. If I where you I would holster the pistol when passerby’s go past.
Several years back in Oregon, where open carry laws are lenient, there was a guy I met who openly carried a loaded antique black powder .44 revolver in a holster on his hip everywhere he went.
For some reason this guy would open carry in places like interstate rest areas and such. Obviously not packing for bear/cougar protection out on a trail somewhere, but in town. He complained that out-of-staters would call the cops on him all the time, and the cops are so familiar that they have to assure the callers when they hear his description.
Is it legal to open carry in Oregon…. yes it is (afaik it is still legal, anyways, I am not a lawyer/don’t give legal advice).
Do you still look/feel like a walking fire alarm open-carrying in populated areas that are not in the woods, and bring fear into the hearts of the uninformed/timid amongst us everywhere… yes indeed.
i had no intensions of carrying into a public place or a city…..my concern is mainly if its legal to carry a handgun openly when hiking etc in nature places….
what the hell do you do if your hunting…you have to get your handgun to your spot somehow…or if your just walking around the area hoping for an opportunity
I think that the difference in opinion is over the fact that just because something is legal that doesn’t always make it a good idea.
Now you are speculating about my personal experience (or presumed lack thereof) and dismissing it as day dreaming, excellent argument!

Friends and I have carried on BLM land while prospecting for gold and plinking around, even had the Talon on the hood of the truck…
Running into the Sheriff was a interesting experience at first, we weren’t totally positive it was cool (as it always is when a cop shows up and your pretty sure your in the good…) but it was fine, we had him review the rules about direction of fire and proper backstop, where and when, just to be sure.
A+ guy, he told us to enjoy the day and have fun shootin! 😀
