how dramatic 🙄

Unloaded open carry is legal in CA

It is also being done more frequently than you imagine, without the dramatic consequences you dream up.

It was dramatic and that is how I know. Experience trumps your day dreaming. I have been a gun owner for 30 years in California and if you want to walk around with a gun on your side go ahead. In fact please do.

Like you said “It is legal”. Just remember they can hold you for 24 hours without pressing charges. Have fun!

He wasnt dreaming, he posted something that actually happened to him. Local governments have always had the ability to “bend” the laws to suit them. It may be legal to do so but if they dont want you doing it then they will find ways to make you wish you hadnt.

Luckily here in AZ open carry is legal as long as any part of the gun is visible. If it was raining and I had a jacket on and only the muzzle end of my holster was sticking out the bottom of my jacket I would be legal. You can carry a loaded gun in your car ANYWHERE as long as its in a holster. Even if its one of those holsters that allow you to fire the gun without removing it from the holster. The laws here about guns are so great its the only reason Ive never bothered to get a CCW. If I want to carry a gun I carry it. Working out of my vehicle I am never far from a firearm. The only places you cant carry are places where its posted that you cant or most government buildings.

The few times Ive been pulled over by the cops Ive always told them I have a loaded firearm in the vehicle. Some cops ask a few questions about it and let it go while others make a big deal out of removing the gun, unloading it and asking me not to reload it until after they are gone. I always ask them if he is now taking personal responsibility for my safety and they always say no. The time this happend it was a young cop fresh out of camp. He was probably being fed some of the PC crap or maybe he was just a dumb ass.

I have had a SWAT TEAM called down on me because someone saw me carry an airgun 15 feet from my car to my office. I had several cops pointing their guns on me and traffic was stopped with a helicopter over head. I had to come out of my office with my hands in the air while my secretary kept yelling don’t shoot him, don’t shoot him!

I dare anyone to carry open in California in public and sees what happens to you. Sure after you risk your life trying to explain your “Legal Rights” before you get shot. You might get out of jail without getting butt raped.

People in california get shot playing Lazer tag, Airsoft, Paintball, carrying a TV remote control etc. Several years ago a Cop shot an actor through the window of a home at night because he saw him with a GUN…..he was at a Halloween party and it was a prop for his costume.

I dare you to go to a Mall with a gun on your side and see what happens.

Let us know how that works out. 🙄

A side question; if you have a CCW in a given State it must be concealed from view, right? So, if you have a holstered pistol and the wind blows your jacket open for all to see is that a major issue? It just seems to me that there are so many regulations about carrying with a CCW that you can’t go anywhere or do anything without planning around it.

It may be legal, but it is not tolerated. Like WOK said, they will swoop down on you so fast it will make your head swim. Especially in San Francisco! The other good piece of advice is that once it is known that you own guns, people will steal them whether you are home or not. Keep it quiet. I think that is why we shooters are so fragmented as a group. We have all had guns stolen or know someone who has.

It is common to see people carrying a loaded, in the open, pistol. It is also a state with much less crime. Go figure.

But I guess that’s a dumb reason to want to keep our second ammendment safe too…the idea that armed citizens reduce crime that is.

No open carry.

I have lived here my entire life and the only people who can carry open are cops and security, somebody like that.

You can carry on your property but I do not suggest doing it where people can see. They will call it in that you where brandishing a gun and you will be in a pile of shit.

Keep it secret, keep it safe. You also do not want to advertise you have guns. The word might get out and you will get some thief looking for them when you are not home.

Don’t spread FUD.

Many people including LEO’s are ignorant of the laws reguarding open carry, and guess that it must be illegal because they don’t see it every day.

The CA governor just vetoed SB-1171.

Try calguns.net for your CA specific legal questions, they have quite a few threads on open carry.
IIRC, open carry must be unloaded unless you are in an unincorporated area.

This is not legal advice, I am not a lawyer

Around where I live, It is not uncommon to see a group of guys carying guns for deer hunting season, up in the mountains of coarse. I recently road my bike over by the Angeles Shooting range, there are some really nice rides up there, and I saw a guy on the side of the road walking into the mountains with a gun on his back. I pulled over to talk with him, and the first thing he said was “Have you seen any deer” 😛 But anyway, I am not sure about pistols. I am sure someone else here will know more about this.
