People that can get cheap fill and have two tanks Cascading is the way to go, It seems to be a hassle but, a lot more fills .
Where I live it cost 30 to 38 bucks to fill a tank, That’s a great white from 3000 Psi to fill to 4500psi, I ask and the same charge would be to fill a tank from 2000psi to 3000psi. That would be about 60 to 76 dollars to fill the tanks?
I guess that’s why I am saving up for a Omega compressor,

Guns are not cheap, air not cheap, Tanks are not cheap, The scopes I bought are not cheap, The pellets are cheap, And the fun factor is big… Well over 6000 $$ the first year in the sport…. Wow :butkick:
I guess as long as the guys in white coats stay away and try not to put me in a padded room . Its money well spent on the fun factor scale….. :suprisedn: Now I got to buy me a gun safe, :suprisedn: I do have a lot of rim rife and center fire weapons in the house also, :winkn: :winkn:

Nothing wrong with a Marauder as a start up gun, My first 25 was a Marauder, Its one of those guns that when you get it , Its not going up for sale.. Its that good, You know the one out of 100 guns, It will out shoot my crickets,

Maybe start a local airgun club and get some folks interested in buying PCPs. I got 3-4 to buy them here but they all ended up with Marauders. Still and interests spread quickly and the demand for air will get supplied somehow.
Guys, I am in the middle of the oil field here in Odessa, Midland area, Everyone is trying to get rich, To many jobs and not enough people and housing,
I have tried the local fire dept.But the city of Odessa,insurace says NO.
I am just going to save up and buy me a new Omegas, (retired here).
Odessa, Midland area about 400,000 people and growing fast..
I am the only PCP shooter with in a 200 mile area,
One up in Carlsbad New Mexico that I know of…..

You got a used low-hour Bauer for a few hundred more – like $2000? I researched those quite a bit too for a few months. I found some used ones for about $2600 but they were pretty well used and was told repairs can be a bit steep if anything major goes wrong as it does on the older ones. That would be good if I lived near the guy doing the refurbishing. Comparing apples to apples on a new one they were double the cost by the time I got through with it. I am sure used Omegas will be down near a new Shoebox F8 cost as well.
If my only option was a $38 fill, I’d at least consider a Shoebox compressor. Over the years I’ve tried everything except a hand pump. When I began shooting PCP’s about 12 years ago my first tank was a 100CF aluminum scuba tank. It was a heavy at 40 lbs. and only could hold 3,300 psi. From there I went to an 88CF carbon fiber tank at 4500psi, but the dive shops around here weren’t air gun friendly. I didn’t like the hot fills that would lose 500 psi after you got home. I didn’t like the un-necessary fees they charged like $10 visual inspections each year on top of the hydro inspection fees every five years. I even owned the now obsolete FX compressor that connected directly to an air rifle but was just a mechanized hand pump with liquid cooling but could quickly overheat. I’ve owned both the Shoebox Max and Shoebox Freedom 8. They are a good option if you want to fill on your own and not be ripped off by a $38 extortionist. When the Omega came on the scene I was tempted, but decided to spend a few hundred more and now I have the Rolls Royce of fill options. It is a like new Bauer continuous duty 4800 psi Utilus compressor.
There is a dealer in Ft. Lauderdale Florida who sells refurbished low hour Bauer compressors. His name is Carlos Kuster, and he sells on Miami Craigslist or on Ebay as Deep_Six. I use a Tiger Shark tank which my Bauer can refill from 3K to 4.8K psi in 10 minutes. Should I ever need to sell my Bauer, I can recoup my investment in full or even make a small profit. I was able to sell my Shoeboxes for what I paid for them. I would rather own a used Bauer that is bullet proof and has local dealer servicing available if I ever needed it than any other option I know of.
Good point SECoda! The guys at the firehouses are usually very friendly. I know some guys do fill from them. I would try it if the alternative was $40 a fill!
Air at 1 bar is available free of charge if that’s what you are looking for!
Don’t they have a firehouse or two there? I just approached the chief over three firehouses nearby and I can go to any of them for free. The problem is those guys love to talk and it is hard to get out of there in a hurry. I greased them with Krispy Kreme donuts occasionally and they always used to seem happy to see me. I almost miss it with the compressors. They even made me bring a Cricket over one time to see.

Not a Texas thing. I fill both mine for $8 – $11 each depending on the store and one dive store is 2 miles away from home. Same cost though for the great white and the small 90ci.
I guess if you are living in place far from lakes or sea (as in Odessa) then you could be under the mercy of limited providers.
Its about 3 bucks to fill a dive bottle here.. If it cost that much I would definitely own a compressor! It cost me less to fill a LPG/Propane tank for the BBQ!
