Questions on Cricket .22 Standard Platform

Hey guys been a while since I was here last. I miss this place. What can I say Life is on Life’s terms.

I have an interest in this bug gun I keep hearing about Cricket. I just don’t have a full enough picture and need some help.
I am wondering how the is trigger? What’s the sound report? Is it back yard friendly out the box. And if so is it Tony Condor Quiet? I have read a few conflicting stories on sound. Is there a lot of ping coming from the action? How is the accuracy? Is it heavy or cumbersome because of the small size. I have heard it being compared to a tank? Any insight from owners of this little wonder is greatly appreciated. What are the Pro and Cons in your opinion. I have not found any real in depth video reviews of this gun if you know of any please post link.

Thanks

Oaks

The Cricket will be here some time tomorrow FEDEX (WE DELIVER SATURDAYS) :8: If weather permits I will be sending massive amounts of lead at my .22 trap and I will have a much better idea of the sound report on this bug. I spoke to the guy that sold it to me and he shot it while we were on the phone it was rather quiet he said his cell phone was about three inches from the action. The gun maybe fine as it is. A little tinkering here and there de-ping if even needed, maybe relieve some pressure in the shroud. Hammer slap maybe a concern with my head laying on that action. I found a thread by HOOT on cell foam but the pictures have been removed and I would like to see what the finished product looks like and the exact area the cell foam is cemented too. Anyone having any personal experience and pictures of this mod please post a link or thoughts.

As always Thanks
Oaks

You get that new truck yet?

My experience with donny is, he keeps in touch with you, he responds very quickly, his product is extremely well built, and it took less then a week from the time of order to my door step. And he makes it only when ordered.

Nailed it! :8:

So did Zonk.

Donny has done a few “tweaks” to the LDC since Zonk reviewed that one in his pic. If you want quiet Donny is the way to go…

Oakley, you won’t regret it one bit. I love my .22 and if quiets what your looking for contact Donny.

Thanks I think you are right I won’t regret it but my wifie may not like it one bit! Any pics of that LCD? Pricing?

Thanks Oaks

Here’s Donny’s shroud and ldc. This was maybe his 1st one which he sent to me for testing. If your looking for quiet, this is what you want. As far as price, contact Donny.

Those guns look real nice and I bet fun to shoot. Do you take hogs with both guns or just the .25? What did the lead dust collector set you back? Trying to figure out what size bipod I need. I am just wondering functionally how is the shortie bipod?

All my guns but my .357 stormpup are real quiet and the Stormpup’s report is not that bad anymore. But out the box the 9mm is a 16 Gauge shotgun. But like you I just love the sound of the pellet hitting duct seal putty in my trap. It’s about all I hear with the Blizzardpup and my Condor.

Those are Donny’s shrouds and LDC’s… You can PM him on here (Donnyfl). He will fix you right up. That is an Atlas bipod and I primarily use it when I’m bench shooting or doing chrony work. When hunting from a blind, I have a Caldwell magnum field pod. When spot/stalk it’s Primos bipod tall Trigger Sticks.

Great idea bipod for the bench. I like that I do most of my shooting off the bench. I am going to tinker with the cricket before I do any serious inquires to the man that makes them I may not need it. And my tinkering may quiet it up without adding length.

These guns are so accurate these days. I had a Condor and I still have a modified Stubby Talon with a Maddog stock that really shoots well with a super sear trigger (set at 8 ozs.). It shoots well in .177 or .25 but I love it with the .177 and heavy pellets. It is nearly as accurate as my Crickets or Edguns with that stock and trigger mod plus it has that near 500 cc tanks so a gazillion shots with the .177 even. I have an R&L LDC on it and some parts I machined from brass including the trigger, breech knob, and LDC cap but it is otherwise all black and looks cool too IMO. For close and real quiet shooting it is tough to beat my P-Rod with an LDC. It is nearly silent. Great on squirrels out to 50-60 yards in .22.

With LDC and bipod

Your mad dog is sweet. The P-Rod looks like it is easy to get around with to take pigeons and squirrels. You would have a blast up here with that. I heard the p-rod was awesome and next to silent with lcd. There are a lot of P-Rod Fanatics on other boards. I though about getting the Talon P but I figured after putting an LCD on it it would be 30 inches anyway and that kinda kills the point. I have the 2013 Condor when they changed the platform. The trigger is different and an upgrade over the previous trigger however it could be better. I am not sure if there is a Mod yet for the new triggers? I have had the trigger apart so many times. I have polished it and lubed it and that kind of helped. The Condor also has the top hat mod from TT and it is honestly like a regulator I can shoot an unbelievable amount of shots off a fill and what is best I can use real light lead that you would never be able to use and keep the gun quiet and accurate. The Condor is extremely accurate. I have not tested my gun over 60 feet so I am uncertain how it will fair in the accuracy department over long distances. The next time I go to my families in Western PA we will see how the Ground hogs like the Condor .25 with JSB 18.1gr.

Ergonomically, it is the best airgun I own but I use extra-high rings.

Here’s my .25 and my .22 std. with Donny’s shroud and LDC combo… both are completely quiet. It is amazing to actually hear a pellet smack an animal like a hog up side the head. It is quite loud, but you never get to hear that when shooting a powder burner… It is by far the loudest sound that occurs during a shot sequence when I’m hunting pigs…

Squirrels up here are big and fat and plentiful. There are 100’s in my neighborhood and they dig the krapolla out of my lawn. Lot’s of crows as well. No one shoots them so there is an over population. We live in liberal suburbia. The guy that lives behind me is from Poland and he saw me outside with the gun shooting he was up in his 80 foot pine putting up a flag at the top. He came down and started with the “My wife knows you are shooting over here be careful she wants to call the cops on you. She says you are shooting birds”. Sheeeeeesh. I had a squirrel literally crawl down my shooting back stop as I was getting ready to launch lead down range he stopped half way down and looked at me I had him im the cross hairs and he stood there wagging his tail for about 45 seconds. I let him go.

SECoda I have one long gun left outta maybe 8 or 9 I have owned it is a .22/.25 Condor with two shrouds. A shorty Rapid Roy made me for the .22 and TonyT’s shroud for the .25. All my other long guns have been sold. The Evanix Blizzard has been shortened and made into a Blizzardpup. I had the shroud cut back and the barrel choked. I can put it back into the old walnut stock but it’s 6 to 8 inches shorter then the factory model. Snub nose rifle it actually looks real cool.

I still love my condor and won’t part with it. It is Modded out every goody Tony had to make it quiet and help it’s performance I own. I have tuned it every which way.

But Bull pups are the water this boat is on.

Thanks

I just nailed a pest squirrel not ten minutes ago with my .22 std Cricket. :biggrinn: Actually, my Compact Cricket in .177 does a real good job too and is feather light and very quiet. Overkill on most birds. You see any rats there? Of course our squirrels are like rats with fur on their tails. 😛 We have a huge overpopulation of grey. They chew up nearly everything around here.

Congrats you will really like it. I have a tough time now shooting an air gun longer than about 27″ now. They seem like flintlocks and are all nose heavy. These guns longer than 45″ or even near it are ridiculous IMO unless you are doing several hundred yards with casts or bench rest work.
