Q:

Quick Fill mod passes hydro testing…..WHAT??????????

Well it seems that the quick fill mod has passed the hydro test….
It works and it is safe…
Now all the nay sayers can publicly admit that they have no idea what
you are talking about when it comes to drilling and taping bottles, and that you were wrong and AZ and Tim are right……..
You have just been schooled by Tim @ Mac1….Another non certified
hack that has helped to improve this hobbie and make it safer…

Remember when the world was flat?

Never hurts to have an open mind….

——————————————————————————–

I promised I’d post the pics when the Spirit of America Replica Jet Car was completed. This car is CO2 powered by two 20 oz tanks attached through the base of both tanks.
What makes this post on topic is there has been considerable controversy about whether this is an acceptable modification to drill and tap tanks with threads to accept Quick connect couplings. Because we like to make sure we are doing things safely we had the two Siamese 20 oz tanks hydroed as a unit and they passed for pressures generated by CO2 systems. The car was clocked at 68 MPH on a 32 foot tether making a 64 ft diameter circle in about 2 seconds. Total run time is just over 2 minutes. Larry Goddard is the builder with CO2 tanks provided by Mac1 and Hydroed by Ross Fire Extinguishers in Long Beach CA. The Jets Horn shape was generated from input from a good friend who worked on the Shuttle thruster development at Marquart.
Larry has some extraordinary toys including a paddle shift Ferrari 430 I’ve been invited to test drive when I get back from South Africa next month.
Larry does very clean work. He is definitely a toy lover and creator. To visit his home in Malibu is a delight and I do so as often as I’m invited.
He has some very nice airguns and is one of those guys that really enjoys his wealth.

This is what happens when you shoot a gun with a quick fill mod.

Ah! You can always count on WOK to add some sexist pictures!!

Thanks!

MM, I think that with putting a solid object into the base of a bottle you are effectively leaving the wall as strong as it was previously, assuming you’ve drilled and tapped it professionally and the wall doesn’t bow under pressure (and I think it does not, any bowing takes place in the bottle’s side-walls, area of least resistence?)

Having said that, I personally would be too nervous to try it myself. But I’m pretty nervous around anything potentially bangy that hasn’t already been tested to destruction by somebody else. But if the hole is narrower than the thickness of the wall through which it’s made my intuition suggests it would be safe. But I wouldn’t test it myself. 😉 😆

That is the most sensable and rational response I have seen to date…..
Again…Jolly good show ole chap….

Your ability to expeditiously come up with a picture for every occassion kind of worries me WOK….lol

I only had one dealing with Tim
I bought a barrel off him.
He was Great!! Took a lot of time on the phone with me, for a meer $100 barrel. A GREAT guy, and he has a great reputation.

I just disagree with the safety of the modification.

I especially dissagree with any idea that it may be safe for just anyone to make that mod. I am sure Tim has good skills and has done some safety testing.

This forum has a vast spectrum of people with various skills and knowledge. I would not want the average airgunner to come away from this discussion with the idea that this mod is Totally and unequivocably safe for him to do himself. Mostly becuse IN MY OPINION it is not.

heard?

Mam, I wish I could shoot that well!
If we were closer together, I would apriciate some lessons and pointers!

Can we agree to disagree? Friend.

Mark

No one..And I repeat no one has or will advise that anyone other than AZ
or Tim try this mod…That was never even mention until your post….

I have no problem with your opinion of the safety issue. You just can’t
back up what your saying…YOU nor anyone else have tried this mod and
failed nor succeeded..And I suggest you don’t…

It is not safe for anyone accept Tim or AZ to perform this mod and it is
hard to believe anyone without vast experience would even think about
it..But then again, it is hard to believe they have to put a warning label
on a bottle of bleach telling you that it is not for human consumption or
warn people that it can not to be taken orally…I absolutely agree with
you on that point and have never argued differently.

You can shoot that well if you spend some time reading and adhearing to
these notes. I would be more than willing to discuss my experience with
instituting these notes into my target shooting but, keep in mind that I
am not the author nor am I a registered certified instructor of these
techniques. I am sure there will be some nay sayers that have not tried it
and that will tell you it won’t or doesn’t work (just like the quick fill mod)
but, I know from experience that it works and will work beyond your
comprehention..It is absolutely effortless….

http://www.nygordprecision.com/notes.htm

It is hard to question the results of successful people…If you have tried it
and it failed I would be interested in your opinion..If not…Don’t waist my
time and the time of others….

Just because someone doesn’t or can’t understand something doesn’t
mean it is wrong or dangerous…That would be a terrible mind set to
have…No discovering America, no moon walk, no space station, no
airguns? Not a good mind set at all.

We can agree that niether of us, nor anyone besides AZ or Tim, has a
clue what is involved in this mod and exactly how dangerous it may or
may not be and, none of us can say emphatically that it is 100% safe or
100% unsafe as some have done.
But if agreeing to disagree is what floats your boat then by all means I
am all for it…..

Yes friends…

This forum was founded on the idea of free discussion, and a free exchange of ideas (you can even use bad words and sexist pictures 😀 ). Today, I am expressing my opinion (shit! , I wish I had some sexist pictures to post!).

Oh yeah, that’s the same gonzo opinion that held I’d be able to make successful valves when all the experts here were basically telling me I didn’t have sufficient machine-tool skills and experience. 😉

You mean regulator 😛 😀

Nah, it was pretty much anything, it just started with regulators. A regulator is no harder to machine than a valve, no harder to design either. The reason I never bothered with one is I realised there’d never be enough volume in something thin enough to be able to fit through the neck of the bottle.

It is hard to reflect emotion with words but, I can promise you I am not
loosing sleep..I couldn’t shoot a 1/2″ group at 65yds if I was upset…Ya
heard? Just somewhat fanatically, standing up for members of our
sport..Like I said ..I would do the same for you or anyone else if I felt it
was warranted…No one asked me to stand up for them, nor do they
even know…Or at least I have not communicated it to them…

I have seen you ask many many questions but have not seen you
answer even one of the questions I have asked……
What is the purpose for your input?…
Is it concern for others safety?
Is it questioning the process so as to better understand the mod process?
Is it to put someone’s work down because you feel inadequate?

This mod is not dangerous enough to have ever been a subject of concern so WHY?

I ain’t hatin….

I thought I would get an update on this quick fill modification.

I sent an email to Catalina Cylinders with a picture of AZ’s quick fill installation asking their professional opinion on its safety.

When they respond I will post it here.

I know exactly what they will say….
I don’t think it should have gone outside of this forum….I hope it doesn’t
cause AZ and Tim problems….It is not that important..
